  1. Thanks for the suggestions! Got some new ideas to try...lookin forward to firing up the grill again.
  2. For Christmas this past year, I got a Charbroil Infrared grill. As a male, I feel it's a right of passage to know how to use a grill...IMO. I've been using some olive oil and McCormick's Steak seasoning to marinate the steaks before grilling. NY Strip is my personal favorite. I've tried cuts from Publix and Fresh Market, with my nod going to Fresh Market. I always use A1 when eating steak. Do you marinate your steaks? If you don't mind sharing the recipe, let me know.
  3. And this is my quandry...I'm goin for 10hz as much as possible for HT. Why 10? Because I can. It takes the "what if" factor out of my mind. I know I can get there with an Inuke and 4 sealed 18s (or IB, but my current setup won't allow for it). As much as I'd love to throw in some horn subs, one of the only DIY subs I've seen that can hit 10 is the Gjallerhorn, but I can build two or three Dayton sealed 18s for the price of one Gjallerhorn (amp power moot point). That gives me greater coverage and placement options. If I could settle for 15-16hz, then Lilwreckers all day long. I'd like to think that with 4 18s not nearly being pushed to their limits (unless goin crazy with some bass tests), I could achieve both the SPL levels and extension I am going for, without distorting myself to smithereens. All that being said, them dang horn subs still intrigue me. Good thing I'm fairly young. Guess I'll have to go both routes and see what my ears tell me,
  4. I say go for the 62s...it takes the "Well, I wonder what the 62s would've sounded like" out of the equation.
  5. Gonna put my plug in for an "identical-as-possible" front 3 for Home Theater. I've got 3 La Scalas across the front and I love it. Go for 3 RF-7s if you can.
  6. I had the opportunity to pick up a used, but well taken care of HK 3600 off of Ebay for a good price. I had been lookin around at pre-amps or AVRs with pre-outs for a while. I never met the guy from Ebay, but his packing job was superb. My very first impression was the weight of it...30lbs compared to 18 of the Yammy. So far, I am loving the HK. My La Scalas have never sounded better. I know it's rated at 80X7 and my Yammy was 105X5, but the HK punches above its weight class. Maybe it's because I only have 5.1 instead of 7.1. Not sure, but the HK drives louder and with less distortion. Even at lower volumes, it still possesses the ability to make things clear and "unmuddy." I've watched a few of my favorite movies and loved the sonic clarity. The Avengers and Tron sounded fantastic. The highs were more crisp and detailed while the mid and low frequencies possessed more authority. My music library is all over the place as far as genres go, but the common factor among all genres was that vocals were much clearer and understandable. The HDMI switching is considerably slower than the Yammy, but that's not a big deal. I'm gonna use the internal amp on the HK for a few months to get to know the sound...then I'll throw in the Sherbourn 7X150 to see if I notice a difference. Overall, I am definitely happy about the upgrade and can recommend HK.
  7. For some, it starts with a yes, and continues upwards about how many subs...I like those kind of people.
  8. I was lookin at these to replace my crappy Sony surrounds (only about 45ish minutes away from Asheville)...I gotta believe that even for $200, if they don't find a permanent place in my HT, they would be decent for a two channel rig somewhere.
  9. I guess if I wanted to cover the HT spectrum (my focus) and the music spectrum, I should just pull a "lukeamdman" on the AVS forum. Twin Gjallarhorns and Othorns in the same room. Course, I'd need to get some solid $$$ to do that. He has since moved one Ghorn and one Othorn to the rear of the room.
  10. WOW! I take it back... there have been some BAD calls tonight! How many people are screaming at their TVs tonight, I wonder? I was one of those people screaming at the TV. Honestly, I could've cared less which team won, but the bad calls were making the game almost unbearable to watch. Dictator Goodell will whimpify the game as much as he can...hmm...maybe that's why I find myself watching more UFC these days.
  11. And.........just when I was about to buy a couple more 18s, I read this thread and feel like I am doing a disservice to my LS by having a direct radiating sub. Maybe I should go for a Lilwrecker or even a Gjallerhorn.

    DIY sub

Have you had any issues at all with running the EP @ 2 Ohms? I've heard conflicting reports and wanna get your take on it.
  13. http://stereointegrity.com/index.php?id=57 SI is clearing out their 15s and 18s for a great price + shipping. They're getting out of the entry level sub market to focus on some mid-range offerings. No, they are not going out of business. This clearance is a great way to pick up some 18s for DIY for cheap. I'm on the fence about picking up a couple myself...course, that 24" is downright nasty.
  14. User Snoman here on the forum uses the Sherwood R-972 and really likes it. For $500 on accessories4less.com, I've considered giving it a shot. It's got full pre-outs and the room correction software gets great reviews. I'm also considering the Anthem series, because their ARC is stellar. Just throwing some more options to muddy the waters. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/SHERR972/SHERWOOD-R-972-Newcastle-7.1-A/V-Surround-Receiver-TrueHD-DTS-HD/1.html dewthedru - go with DIY for the subs. I built one 18" sealed and it was amazing. 2 or 4 would even be more awesome.
  15. I've always used Milwaukee tools and put them through their paces. I have their M18 cordless kit and love it. I've also got a corded circular saw and drill and love those too. I plan on using them for many years to come.
  16. Yet again...such clear and "descriptive" pictures by Youth. Well done.
  17. Blake Shelton concert in Atlanta (Aaron's Amphitheater). He put on a good show. Paid $73 for a ticket about 12 rows from the stage. Cell phone picks were all I had.
  18. I remember you mentioning anthem stuff in another thread. I'll definitely look around for some deals on them. I've honestly never used any room correction stuff before. The YPAO on my Yammy was underwhelming to say the least. The only Sherbourn that is still available is the PT-7030...at least that I can tell.
  19. Hey yall, I'm trying to decide whether an AVR with Pre-outs or a dedicated Preamp would be better suited for my HT system. Music is not an issue...however it sounds, it sounds. Unless an amazing deal comes up, I won't be buying until late this year or early next year...just to give a time frame. I wanted to get input so I can watch for deals or adjust my thinking. A little background shall we? Currently, I'm using a Yamaha RVX-465 (rated at 105 watts into 2, and tested closer to 80ish into 5) to power my system. I've got 3 La Scalas across the front and 2 Sony SSF-5000s for surrounds. Ultimately (not sure how long it will take), I plan on getting 4 Heresies for surrounds to take me to a 7 channel system. The Yamaha will definitely help me blow my hearing, but I get some hum from my LS (when there is a pause in the action in a movie). I've got a brand new Sherbourn 7X150 amp sitting in the box with all the packing. To me personally, I really believe that having a dedicated amp is better than using the integrated amp in an AVR. I could be persuaded to sell the Sherbourn and get a higher end AVR, but that "what if" would still be in my mind. You'd have to make a really persuasive argument to me to sell the Sherbourn. So....in the 700ish and less range, what would you recommend for an AVR or a Preamp? A tempting option is the UMC-200, which is currently on sale for $500. However, another option is the Sherwood Newcastle R-972 for $600 on accessories4less. The room correction software on the Sherwood seems vastly superior to the Emotiva. However, in my price range, it seems like a Marantz or something else might be a solid option too. I want to get some opinions and thoughts from yall to see what might work for me. I've used Pioneer electronics in my truck and love them, so I'm open to Pioneer as well. I don't particularly care about 4K, but 3D is necessary. I don't use 3D a lot, but enough that I want something compatible. Thanks!
  20. I finally got my 3rd LS to complete my LS for LCR and it's impressive. I absolutely love it.
  21. DIY for subs is fantastic. I don't ever plan on buying another sub again!

  23. Well.......I pulled the trigger and got a P7-150 BNIB before Sherbourn ran out. I plan on it powering a 7 channel Heritage series HT series of speakers (Still working on getting all 5 channels of Klipsch for now and then going to 7 channels of Klipsch Heritage when my HT enlarges one day). The P-7150 is sitting a few feet behind me brand new in the shipping box and plastic wrapping but not being used because my very entry-level Yamaha [RVX-465 for those whose wonder] receiver has no pre-outs (I made a decision before I understood anything about audio technology...about 6 years ago before 3D, 4K and anything along those "advanced" lines of technology.) Dad gum...it's a friggin chunk!!! (I've never had a dedicated amp). Fed Ex rated it at 70lbs and I believe it (after working with many 80lb bags of Sacrete in my life). Ah well...looking towards what I can put it good to good use!
