  1. Dave, I am going to keep this short as I do not want to get into a debate on this. I will let have your opinion and leave it at that. Your only argument is loading times. Yes in the old DOS days, we did a batch file and typed WP or AC and it went to the program directly and loaded. The amount of Plugins and additional STUFFused today, with Word and AutoCAD, it is exponentionally more to load than in the old days. I can have ten different programs open and running along with surfing the net....THAT is something you could NOT do in DOS. Remember everything is still basically run off of the DOS platform but stuff is much more complex today, than back then. Also once any program is loaded there is NO hesitation of waiting for processing of a file. I dare say that YOU have never out typed Word and had it still putting letters on the screen while you had finished typing......I am running a quad core and I can tax it's power doing solid modeling and CGI Gra[hics, but that is the ONLY time that the processor is ever challenged. The fact of having to wait a few seconds for something to load is a thin arguiment against today's technology. When I hit the Icon for AutoCAD Inventor 2012, it takes less than three seconds to get the drawing screen and my friiend, that is FAST, considering all of the ancillary crap that has to load. W. C.
  2. Tannoy is a VERY popular speaker in recording studio circles. I can honestly say, that just about every studio I have ever been in, had a set somewhere, most of the time above the mixing board.....If you have ever heard a set you will know why........! A HUGE [Y] for Tannoy's.
  3. What other technology has given you so much more for so much less....? The cost of microprocessing keeps decreasing while the technology behind them keeps climbing the ladder. I started out on an IBM 360 that took up the entire basement of a one block square building in Richmond, Va. I have more computing power on my desk now, than that whole machine could come up with. If you remember the first IBM 286' based desktops they cost upwards of 10K each....YES...We have come a very long way in a very short time. I will say this again.....The technology you see in the public domain is probably 20 years behind what is actually being developed in the Black Circle......
  4. Dave, When and if you get the notion for a new cartridge, look into the S.A.E. 1000 MC (Eliptical). I have two of them playing regularily and they are supberb. They can be had for 200 and plays like something much more expensive. Now you have me looking for Fox stuff......you are EVIL....![6] W. C.
  5. The 4592ND is a TWO inch driver. All of Klipsch's horns in the speakers that you mention are ONE inch. You will have to change the horns out to to something that will accept the TWO inch drivers.
  6. I totally agree...One big one small and yes, it probably make NO difference what so ever.....!
  7. Dave, Are those solid steel? The only reason I am asking is; you can get hollow tube in the same dimensions. Would be much lighter and may make a difference on shipping cost. Will not change anything stability wise. I am presuming by tripod, you are referening an arm from the top rear to a bracket extension on the base. W. C.
  8. Cha, I must say that I am a bit envious of your location, as Thailand has some of the most beautiful scenery on this Planet. I am sure that you will love your THX set up once you get it dialed in. I have read nothing but great reviews, on the system. W. C.
  9. Dandy, Groomlake51 (Hope I have that right) has some great threads on refinishing. Try an advanced search using "refinish" or Veneer" and it should reveal some of them, or search through his threads by pulling up his screen name and then search for "refinish" or "veneer". Hope this helps as he has done some very detailed threads on the subject. W. C.
  10. Tromprof, You could actually remove the K Horn Top Hats and set the Trachorns on top of the bass bin. It would lower the Mid Horn and possibly look a bit cleaner. of course this all depends on how you have the tweeters mounted. You can just remove the two screws from the crossover and set it on the rear of the bass bin. Just a thought, W. C.
  11. Rippy, Where did you purchase your seating from? Sorry id I missed it in your Build Thread. It is very impressive....! Did you have the option of having the recliners in the middle? W. C.
  12. Call Klipsch Customer Service, the number is in your paperwork for the headphones. One of the selling features of the M40's are their toughness. Explain what happened and see what the response is. Klipsch is very responsive to their customers, that have purchased items through Authorized channels. You may have to go back through the store that you purchased them from. If you bought these from someone other than an Authorized dealer, you may be left sucking wind......
  13. I wanna know how you keep your damn shop soooooo clean.....! []
  14. Don, Being a bachelor, my system pretty much stays on while my eyes are open. Whether it is 2 channel and FM radio or watching TV or movies in the HT mode. Since my system is comprised with two Jubes up front with Martinelli's in a two way passive set up, it is hard to turn it off. Sometimes I just sit, with my eyes closed and listen to some good CD's or spin a few records.
  15. Joey, If they are unfinished (raw wood) a good sanding with 220 then 600 grit sandpaper. Watco Danish Oil is a preferred oil treatment and it comes in several colors. It will really make the grain "POP". You can actually do the 600 grit sanding when applying the oil (wet sanding) between coats. There are many threads on here about refinishing and groomelake51 (member name) has some excellent tutorials on the process.
  16. Depending on how bad it is, you may be able to use steam (steam iron) and a hard rubber mallet, to get it back into shape. I have done some pretty amazing things with this method..........
  17. Shrader, You might as well learn it now.....Your bank account will not be able to keep up.....You will know when you have to make that decision between food and a set of speakers....Guess what always wins...cause you can always find a dumpster behind a resturant....!
  18. Taylor, This is some of the BEST advice that you have and will ever receive.....! Upgrade the crossovers and get comfortable with the KLIPSCH sound before you venture into NO mans land...... they sound pretty good stock.....
  19. Guys, I really wish I could make the Pilgramige, but other obligations must come first. I wish the both of you a great time and look forward to pictures and descriptions of what goes on there. W. C.
  20. Danny, Don't worry about the power or volume knob....The La Scalas will produce more sound on less watts than you, your house or body can physically stand.....[] Crank IT Till It Hurts....!
  21. Danny, You have made a great find....! They appear to be in great shape. They are Industrial la Scalas made for Theater use. they should sound as good as the regular La Scalas and i doubt that anything is "Blown" yopu will have to hook them up to determine that. you have a matched set of fronts for the beginning of a great Home Theater set up....! They appear to ber painted rather than the fiberglass version, but it is hard to tell from the photos. I am pretty sure that they were manufactured in 92 on the 342 day and was number 2641 for that year (the serial number that you show. The first three dihgits were the day of the year the next two were the year in reverse 29=92 and the last four were the actual number of that year. They should have AL-3 crossovers.
  22. Larry, RC stands for Radio Control. The radios we use now go up to 18 channels of operation and operate on 2.4 GHz. Specktrum technology has allowed this to be possible. We have done test with over one hundred aircraft in the air (T-38 Foamies) with no interferance what so ever. The old system which operated at 27 MHz was limited to fifty channels. The range of operation has also increased to well over a mile. We are limited by line of sight operation. There are many web sites devoted to RC, two of the biggest are RC Groups and RC Universe. If you would like more information just Google wither name or visit the AMA site. remember, everything that flies without blood in it was derived from model aviation. W. C.
  23. JM, I've spent a lot of time in Muncie on various projects but I won't be making the XFC this year. With the building project I am doing and getting ready for the September events at the flying field, my time is very limited. I will be at the facility the entire month of September as we have two major RC events and the Full Scale Fly In at the end of the month....! We will probably have 25 or so Warbirds there, plus about six or seven hundred homebuilt and general aviation aircraft. We are expecting about 300 for a Fly In Breakfast at the end of June. We have what we call the Youth Masters in August which is a great event. We also use the CAP and a few other groups to help us with the parking, I really hope that your event is a success, as you are supporting some great causes. W. C.
  24. Bruce, These are true jet turbines not ducted fans and have been a major part of the RC Industry for years. I think the thrust rate is up to about 65 to 70 pounds now. At the past event we probably had in excess of a hundred jets there. The above Rafael has a thrust to weight of 1:1.5 and with the vectored thrust can do some pretty amazing manueavers. we had three jet engine manufacturers represented there. they are a lot more common than you are thinking. the cost per engine runs between 2.5K to 6k. Some of the experimental engines with a lot more thrust run upwards of 29K each. They are used primarily on drones and a few other applications. The speeds are halted by the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) to less then 200 miles an hour but believe me, they can reach much, much higher speeds. The AMA is the main governing body for the sport/hobby. We test many types of prototype aircraft at the facility, throughout the year. the grass strip is 400 by 7000 feet. I certainly do not want to hijack the thread......! W. C.
  25. Bruce, We have a few jets....This is one of a pair that come every year from germany....It has canards and has vectored thrust.
