  1. Not sure if that question was directed at me or not. But in any event, I never speculated about the sound pressure being changed by spiking a speaker to the floor.
  2. And interconnects shouldn't sound different, and yet they do.......
  3. I've always been a big believer in spiking speakers for focus, clarity and improved bass response. But even if one wanted to spike klipschorns, I'm not sure how you could. You have to spike the speakers when they are in their permanent position. Not easily done with a 175 lb. speaker shoved in a corner. And for me it's more of a convenience issue. I keep mine on furniture sliders for ease of access to the drivers and xovers. So whatever trade off I am making by not spiking the khorns is one I'm willing to live with. But most every other speaker I have owned used spikes. Shakey
  4. I have aftermarket power cords on all my equipment. If I hadn't heard the difference, I wouldn't have spent the $$. Flame away........
  5. I'd never get any work done...........😮
  6. I listen to Audiophile Jazz sometimes. Stream Tidal quite often. Shakey
  7. This is a lot of banter about a speaker that sounds good no matter who is right about the details. And it DOES sound good. So who cares about the fluff........ Shakey
  8. 1300.00? Really? 1300.00 for a table and a "good" cartridge is about as low as you can go and expect decent performance. Yes, it can be done, but it's truly entry level. Not where you'd want to end up. IMHO........ Shakey
  9. That depends on what phono stage you will be using. Shakey
  10. I really like the AR recommendation above. I had an AR table several years ago and it was a solid performer. I also think a used Rega is a good budget table. Shakey
  11. If I had to choose between a 5K table + 500.00 phono stage and a 5K phono stage and a 500.00 table, I'd take the latter over the former every time. That said, there are some budget cartridges that are very good. The Denon DL-103R and Dynavector 10X5 come to mind. Also the Dynavector P75 phono stage is excellent and not very expensive (895.00 for a new Mark IV version, less than half that for a used earlier version). Then you have to buy a record cleaner, cleaning solution, brushes, scale, cartridge alignment tool and whole mess of 50.00 vinyl reissues............😀
  12. When going down this road, remember that you need a good quality phono stage and cartridge. If your budget is 1K for the table, add at least another grand to that. Shakey
  13. And here's another "loud as hell" fun machine I had. This one with tricked out Alpine/JL Audio sound system with subwoofer (yes, you read that right).........
  14. When I rode Harleys I loved the sound of loud pipes. Even now, I appreciate the sound of a well tuned big twin. I tried to be considerate of others and not be the obnoxious guy at the stop light revving my engine. But oh, the sound of that 2-1 exhaust on my (highly modified) fatboy was very nice. No electric cars or motorcycles for me, thank you very much. Shakey

Good price and very nice looking. GLWS........ Shakey
  16. You'll be happy with that preamp. It sounds good with any cartridge, but especially good with dynavector cartridges in "PE" mode.
  17. This is for sale right here in the garage. If still available, this is a very good option. I am familiar with this phono pre and it sounds extremely good. And not just for the money. Shakey
  18. I don't use eq or tone controls. Never have.

Can't believe these are still around........... Shakey
  20. My cornwalls and cornscalas sounded great that far into the room. Shoving a cornwall into the corner made it sound like a good speaker. Get it away from room boundaries and it sounds like musicians in the room. Shakey
  21. There is no way I would listen to khorns in that space. Your head would have to be almost where that backpack is. Now that I see it, no Lascalas either. Now before I get bashed let me say this. Yes, Lascalas and Khorns will "work" in that space. But they will be FAR from optimized. You are better off with a small pair of monitors. Or better yet, a high quality pair of cans and amp. Always chose the right speaker for the room. And sometimes a smaller, less expensive alternative will sound far better. Shakey
  22. I haven't heard RF-7s of any iteration. But the Pendragons I had (which are NOT like these) were respectable speakers. I wouldn't call them giant killers, but better than a lot I have heard. Shakey
  23. This reminds me of when I brought my klipschorns home they were wired out of phase. It was hard to tell when I listened to them at the seller's house because he had them in a small bedroom, with only one of them in the corner. I can't believe he had been listening to them all that time and never noticed. So essentially I had no bass either at first until I figured out the problem. Shakey
