  1. No, in other words, it's a total scam. You don't have that much good stuff and claim to have a "Klipsch amp" that never existed. And did you follow mungkiman's link, directly upstream? The pic was ripped from an audio review. +++ Do the audio community a favor; go to the CL listing, and click on the "Flagged" button to report this listing as a scam.
  2. Is your post to me, Sancho? I've been on Bill's website before, he is somewhat of a controversial guy on another forum, but I like him. What is it you want me to look for? +++ Edit: He makes and sells plans for folded horn subs (I love the name "Tuba HT). His claim for those beasts seems to be higher SPL, with lower distortion. Is that what you were suggesting? http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/THT.html
  3. I've never heard a horn-loaded sub, so what both you gentlemen said intrigued me. Thanks to a brief listening session with Mustang Guy recently, I have come to understand there is a sonic "atmosphere" that has to be heard to be understood. In short, I was always a "small speaker" kind of guy, which would be the typical 8" woof/1" tweeter type of bookshelf speaker. You can get really good sound with bookshelf speakers, and even some volume. But Mustang guy had SIX La Scallas, L/R and rear L/R which were elevated at least 8 feet, and spread 40 feet from the central LP. Two LS's were centers, with the rear one located 10 feet up, probably 50 feet from the main LP. I'm going to say he had L/F sub arrays, but I'm not sure if the folded subs were in use that day, because he has so much great stuff! The room was actually a medium sized gym he has converted into an auto workshop. He played some stuff at LESS than reference level (to avoid blowing my head out with the sound pressure) and the LARGE sound became instantly apparent to me. The point to that story, is there are sound stages that were previously UN-imaginable to me. Both of you guys seem very sure about sound of the horn-loaded sub. So my question is, how is that sound different, and why is that sound preferable?
  4. Is "poly" a polyurethane clear coat? I'm interested in paint, but everything I've ever painted hasn't turned out great. It probably doesn't help that I live in a desert that has wind everyday. I am willing to keep paint in consideration. Yes, poly is polyurethane, my apologies for the lazy short hand. The polyurethane comes in satin, gloss and semi-gloss. It can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed. I recommend stay away from spray, brush-on does a real nice job. You apply 2-3 coats depending on what the manufacturer recommends, with sanding between coats. I re-finished my CF-4's with satin, and it brought the finish to a factory look without a high gloss.
  5. I bet you would know Duratex if you saw it. Think of a smallish guitar amplifier, the ones with a handle on top, with black textured paint. Many like it because it is easy to apply with a standard paint roller, it covers a lot of flaws because it it thick, and it has some sound deadening properties because it is somewhat rubberized. It's relatively expensive per gallon. You say you don't want to go down the paint road, but paint isn't so bad, and a gallon is relatively cheap. You apply a coat, lightly sand, another coat, etc., until you get a look that you want. They apply poly if you want, again with a roller, then you're done. It's not furniture grade, but it will look better than you think, and the flat or semi-gloss black will make the sub blend into the background. Since all I've done to my DIY speakers (about the same size as a typical sub) is paint them flat black, I'll leave others to comment on veneer.
  6. Why was the game played at the AT&T Center instead of the Alamo Dome? I thought the AD was larger, and it was the home of the Spurs.
  7. What nobody has addressed, is WHY didn't someone get Lebron a drink of water? Have they never seen someone with cramps before?
  8. Mr. Cut Throat, I do see your point, that the return policy is in the fine print, and thereby "deceptive." I don't think that makes them "a-holes," but that's just my opinion. I think the more important part of this thread is that you did your due diligence and read the fine print. You educated yourself to the parts of the policy you were interested in, and you made your purchasing decision. In my book that puts you in the top ten percent of educated consumers. That deserves a thumbs up, and is a good heads-up for the rest of us.
  9. You forgot to blame Paul Klipsch. +++ I hope your nighty-night meds kick in soon so you can step away from the computer and those nice warm tubes, and get some sleep.

    What I Got Today!

I poured in 10 gals. of gas into my mower today, for the first time. I'm not sure why, but the gas came out fast enough without the need for a vent cap. Not sure why...... Also, did not spill a drop btw... Ah ha...I see...Boxx got to use his new can...thats awsome! Man i lost my 3 good old style gas cans thru my divorce a couple years ago...iv been looking ever since...the ones at every store have that dang safety contraption on them...im stupid and not gonna try one of them again...I miss having my old cans...these new ones suck...literally...I know for sure they dont pour You are correct sir, those stupid new ones do suck, and the last 1 gal one I bought with my new chain saw does indeed leak all over my hand when pouring. You can't buy a can now without that contraption on there. I still have a couple of steel 5 gal jerry cans from my old motocross days. They are over 25 years old and still look and work just fine.

    What I Got Today!

Wow. As a guy who takes two BP meds myself, it would be great if I could substitute two meds for food and cinnamon. It sounds like you do a good job of regularly checking you cholesterol levels as well. Do you have a good BP machine, and do you track your BP every day? I bought a good one which can track am and pm readings, and it can output the results to a computer. I don't do that, but the capability is there. Make sure you stay well, Moray.
  12. I think Mr. Zingo has his new signature quote.

    Snagged the LaScalas

My question Earl, is "what would painting them black do to the re-sale value?" You are obviously putting money into them with the idea you are going to keep them, and with that in mind, re-sale might not be the first priority. Personally, I like black speakers, as I like my speakers to "disappear" into the background. There is also a "black ash" veneer that might make them look better, but still not break the bank during your refurb.
  14. This sounds OK, and the right way to do it. OK for anyone to bump, I just would like to see who wants it bumped, and why. It is the anonymous bump I don't like. If there is a bump and a comment on why it was bumped, or if it addresses a current topic, as a newbie I certainly don't mind reading archival treasure I would not normally have known about. So my vote was to remove the anonymous bump as a forum option. Just a suggestion. +++ Edit: Anonymous forum users are OK as well. A person has a right to sign in that way.
  15. Earl, maybe have some more patience, before you you get disgusted and sell your rig to me for a hundred bucks? I think Beeker said on your other similar thread that sometimes break-in on tubes can be 50 hours. I know it's hard to listen to otherwise great sounding equipment with some character flaws, but maybe with a little time on the amp this problem will resolve itself. If not, I have a 1995 Pioneer receiver with about 100 watts per channel I'll trade you, straight up. It's solid state. You pay shipping.
  16. Indianapolis, IN I thought sure as soon as I saw the question, your answer was going to be "in my living room..."
  17. The "forum name" being "garage sale?"
  18. Otherwise he'd have a teeth brush. Exactly! +++ Keep West Virginia clean; throw your trash in Ohio.
  19. What is this, answering both questions with one answer? A WV virgin is a 14 year-old girl who can run faster than her older brother. A WV'ian has a toothbrush so he can brush his tooth. Sheesh.
  20. Hey! I'm from West Virginia you know!!! So, what is the definition of a West Virginia virgin? +++ Edit: And I might as well give you a two fer one, free for nothing: Why does a West Virginian have a toothbrush?
  21. LOL! I'm from West Virginia; do you know what we attach laser's to?
  22. My vote would be for a dedicated center, as it will usually have discrete audio information, and not be the same info sent to the L/R's. You guys who are voting for the phantom center are so used to sitting in your perfect LP that you may be forgetting that the phantom center doesn't image as well if you are off-center. I think the center channel is even more important than the L/R because it's where 95% of your content will come from, which is dialog, and for me, I like the sound anchored to the center. I say that with all due respect to you guys who like a matched L/C/R. In either case, once the center is mounted, Mr. Stream can electronically fiddle with his settings and see what sounds best to him (I'm presuming the wife won't know or won't care, one way or the other ).
  23. It looks like the Buy It Now has ended. Have you reported his listing to Ebay yet, as scam? You would think Ebay would have a black list somewhere for scammers, and they could block him via his IP address or service provider.
  24. That auction is now listed as "closed." "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing." +++ I would have fallen for it, the description was written in a very folksy style. Thanks for the heads up.
