Figure I'd give an update. The RC-64 II has found a permanent home here with me. It arrived with a small chip out of the front top edge but otherwise like new. The sound is different than I was expecting. At first I was a bit disappointed compared to the RC-7 which clearly seems to have much better bass / mid-bass response. I'm hoping that over time the 6.5" woofers might loosen up and offer a bit more? As far as voice and dialogue clarity goes the 64 II seems to be higher resolution, more transparent is the best way I can describe it. Inner details and little noises can be heard with ease. All the sounds seem to be equal across the board. The RC-7 is leaps and bounds ahead of the Academy and KLF-C7 in this department and 64 II seems to even go beyond the RC-7. I think both centers are excellent but I have to say I think the 64 II is an improvement, even more so if the bass improves over time.

I've heard all of the Heritage line and I still claim that dollar for dollar, pound for pound the Chorus II is the best out of the bunch. This is not to say that its the "best" ever made, just that when you consider the sound quality, frequency response, size, shape & weight, availability and cost of replacement parts & upgrades and the cost to get yourself into a pair, I really don't think anything else comes close.

I'm getting ready for a move and seriously need to down size my setup. What I'm offering here is a pair of the Ultra 2 subs, a brand new, still in the box DBX electronic crossover and a Samson SX2800 amplifier. The sub cabinets do have damage from shipping but they are air tight and work perfect, really wouldn't take much to touch them up if needed. The crossover I ordered from Partsexpress and it's still in the box unopened. The Samson amp I bought used and it has some slight bending on a couple of the rack mount ears and some scratches here and there but it works perfect. I'm just trying to sell this as a set to avoid having to store these. Asking price is less than I paid for everything and pretty reasonable considering the performance of the set. I'm offering these for local pick up only or I could meet up within a reasonable distance, possibly further for a fee. Actual pictures will be up soon, thanks. Jesse

If you don't feed them a TON of clean power they can sound bad. At first I tried running them off the rear channels of my Sunfire @ 200 watts each and they barely moved.

I had a pair of the 480's and thought they performed well as part of a set with 250's on top. These are not "Sub"woofers but rather lower end fill (I believe down to 44Hz?) for a pair of monitors. I ran a set for a little while And I tell you what, these things will kick you straight square in the chest if you feed them enough power. You think the Chorus are loud and kick hard?? The 250 / 480 combo are built for clubs etc, big spaces and they perform very well. The pair of Carver A400x's (in the picture) bridged at 500 watts per side was barely enough to get the subs to sound right. I ended up replacing them with a Samson SX3200 at 750 per side and the really came to life. These "woofers" basically give a small monitor a "big" voice by filling in the lower frequencies. I don't know if you'd really want to sink a lot of money into them unless you had a specific need for these as they don't really have a big resale value. I ended up replacing mine with a pair of Ultra 2 subs and have been happy ever since.

Yes, these only came in a black vinyl wrap finish. I used one of these between my Chorus II's for a couple years and was quite happy with it. I actually prefer the KV-4 over the Academy and KLF-C7. Price seems very reasonable if the cabinet is in decent shape, good luck with the sale!

Those are a bit rough for $600 but they don't come up too often either. They are one hell of a nice sounding speaker though, good luck!

Just a reminder that every time we buy something we are voting with our dollars. Why do they sell such cheap junk? Because people buy it. I've been on the "buy American made" bandwagon for several years now and never have (or will) shop at Wal-Mart. Obviously sometimes the only choice for a certain product comes from China and I will still buy it if I need it. Otherwise if its just a matter of spending a few extra bucks to buy something made here versus overseas I'll spend the few extra bucks every time. I even go as far as to spend the extra 30 cents a gallon for local milk, why not support the local community?

I've had both together and sold the 75's, only because I knew I could get 4x's the price for them over the 5's. In my opinion there just wasn't enough of a difference with my room and setup to justify the extra cost of the 75's. Cost no object I'd say grab a pair of 75's though as they'll probably match up better with the RC-7 anyway.

That is exactly why I suggested you hold on to the 30's for a little while. I've been fooled many a times thinking that something "new" sounds better only to find after a few days that it actually just sounds different. A lot of times different is good.. at first, only to wear off and make you appreciate what you once had. If the bass is the only thing you don't like about the 30's you can add some subs, play with the crossover settings etc. I'm not talking about huge 18" floor shakers as that's obviously not what you're getting from the 82's but maybe a pair of 10's to sit along side your towers. Either way, hope you can get it all worked out to your liking.

You can see in the second picture with the 701 sitting on top of the 601 that its actually smaller in width as well.

I'm 100% positive that you'd have to change the cut out for the mid horn. The 701 has a curve on the bottom that fits over a 12" woofer.

Wouldn't you have to cut the hole bigger for the 601 to fit? I would imagine the crossover would need to be changed as well to fully utilize the lower frequencies of the new horn as well? I think it would be a great mod and actually was a bit surprised that Klipsch cheaped out on this.

Just buy the Belles if its not too late and try them out. If they're in good shape you should have no problem selling them at that price or more if you decide that you don't like them so really no risk to try them out. As mentioned above I would not modify the CW III's as they still sell used for $2k+ and any permanent mods would only subtract from that.

Congrats on the new speakers! Everybody has their own tastes, I wouldn't worry much about impressing anyone but yourself. I'd recommend holding on to the 30's though for at least a couple weeks while the new speakers settle in and then do one last comparison before letting them go. You might be glad you did, or not, but better to have them on hand just in case. Enjoy the new setup!

I'm not really too picky on cosmetics. If I like the speaker better than the RC-7 there's about a 95% chance I'll just keep it and sell the RC-7 regardless of any blemishes.

Yes, thanks for the link! I've always wanted to try one of these, should be interesting to do a side by side with the trusty old RC-7. I prefer the RC-7 over the original RC-64 but I mainly attributed that to the horn, now that the horns are basically the same I imagine it will come down to the dual ported 8's versus the quad sealed 6.5's. Makes me a little nervous about the "no pictures and slight cosmetic damage" but the seller accepts returns so if the damage is too bad I'll just send it back.

I've gone back and forth on toe-in. When I do toe-in, I keep the outside corners at 8 inches from the rear wall and move the inside corners to 6 inches. I like the toe-in effect at low to low-mid volumes if I'm stationary in the main listening position. If I'm going to have friends over and / or really want to knock the dust off things I point them straight forward.

Right on, great system! That Denon looks really nice at a great price. Positioning of the Chorus II's will make a big difference and it is worth the time it takes to get it right. I found they sound best about 18-24 inches from the side walls and about 8 inches from the rear wall.

Since you already have both speakers and the upgraded parts can't you install one set in each of your speakers? (1) 4500 / CT125 in (1) Klipschorn and in (1) Scala?

With my old Carver TFM-45 (375 wpc) I was surprised to find that about 90% of my listening only registered about 4 watts on the meters. The Chorus do not need massive power but they can take it. I'm just pointing out that if you want to really drive them to their max output without distortion I've found that it takes about 300 watts.
