  1. As soon as I read that about the hiss I paused my media player and walked up to each of my forte IV's-- 6 inches or so away and no sound at all. Hiss at 4ft is unacceptable I'd send mine back if that were the case, maybe something else in your friends system causing it? I'm sure the XA-25 is a wonderful amplifier, "better" sounding is subjective once you get past a certain point, beyond the hums and hisses amongst other things.
  2. Steve Guttenberg compared the Carver 285 tube amp to the Pass at 11:36 in his review. I have had several Carver tube amps now and none have had hum or noise.
  3. Arrived Tuesday finally got her hooked up this morning:
  4. This is the first I've read about this I almost put myself on that list a few years back when the wait time was 8 months I believe? I cannot image the upset I'd have felt had I waited all that time to receive a hum master. Two year wait time is unacceptable in my book- an 8 month wait was for me back then but to each their own I guess.
  5. The only real solution is to buy used off eBay. Changing to an 8 ohm driver will shift the crossover point and either leave a gap in frequency response or even worse an overlap of frequencies at the crossover point allowing the tweeter to play lower and risk damage.
  6. OK, that's gotta be about the dumbest thing I've read all morning- come on man!
  7. No, he probably tries to deal with people who need the items shipped to them then he can talk them into sending monies on the chance they might receive the product. He would probably just ignore anyone local that wants to come and see / hear the speakers. Some of these people are very convincing I had a guy talk me into selling to him out of state we talked on the phone for 20 minutes he obviously knew about stereos and speakers and a lot about Klipsch specifically, could have been a member here. Kind of a red flag when the check shows up for $7500 for a pair of $900 speakers and he wants me to give the guys picking up the speakers the difference? I was like yeah no, sorry bud.
  8. I did really like the Sony W4's and could have stopped there, who knows maybe they would have broken in a little more and got even better? I've seen them brand new at discount for $200 which is a third of what I paid for the 8's IIRC. I do use them a lot and really enjoy them so don't have any regrets as long as they hold up for awhile. Six months in with near daily use they still look and feel like new, I guess we'll see.
  9. If you're looking at used the RSW-15's pair very well with the Chorus models but they are getting a little long in the tooth at this point. Klipsch has a new line of RP subs that frequently go on sale at great discounts just looking at the specs and not by experience the 1200 look comparable to the RSW-15 but if you're looking for more there's also a 14 and 16" version.
  10. I looked at those but by the time I got the PX-8's my mind was pretty much made up. 95% of my headphone listening is Youtube in the early AM while busy around the house or doing my workouts so not much "critical" listening going on except when I was trying them all out I paid closer attention and had pure listening time. Going from memory the Bose I had seemed to benefit the least from break in but they all sounded better with some time on them especially the Sony's and Bathy's. I bought all of them from seller's with 30 day return policies I think only one had a re-stocking fee. I tried to give each set at least 30 hours before making final judgement. If you're looking to keep cost down I seen recently B&W released a PX-7 S2+ which is supposed to bring them closer to the PX-8's although I haven't tried them myself. I still love my PX-8's, use them pretty much every day glad I spent the extra monies on a nice set.
  11. Steve Guttenberg review of the 285:
  12. Wow just looked that thing up 1000w per channel, 75lb class H amplifier that guy is a beast!! Good luck with your sale.
  13. People do part these guys out on eBay every so often you may get lucky there but who knows when? Just an idea here you might want to hit some CF-4 owners up for the dimensions and good pictures maybe you can make a set of your own? I wouldn't think it would be too hard to throw something half way decent to get you through until a stock pair shows up, which may take years unless you get really lucky.
  14. Now's your chance get a B stock 14 for $900 specs say it should smash the RSW this seller offers 30 day return policy try it out kick the tires if it doesn't impress send it back. https://www.ebay.com/itm/374731298737?epid=5060831971&hash=item573fb9d7b1:g:Vl0AAOSwC~5kcPY2&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4IXdJBW4vbwSM3D%2Bw4Hhq69mGYDXhGDJcyXu5gf5ljg78mbYxBroU2vXGS5FY9q06plILv9VzYIHDMHdecqHh8eKnFNgXerY%2BgQwy1%2FelO66lUpZ5tAmO4Lc5xKmkM1HsRCfY5plU0SfxAcG3jxCFeIlhTQ2iBbWJ2%2FX%2BfLpyoAsSQiiuvwa9GJw1fgNf%2FKimj1pjnyl%2FDnikmNMi%2BqdWN%2FDx%2FW5CdCBb8bauOCEBw9PdXjA0os7WOlgs1BxFa18ZpD77HDk5tBlfsSuPQxC%2FF%2BHGf8LXRxah5wRoXHTKuOw|tkp%3ABk9SR6app4SyYw
  15. $750 for a single tweeter assembly that ships out of Ukraine right now is a "no-brainer?"
  16. I'm sure you're aware of the A55-g driver that when tested against an old k-55v it measured better but rumor has it when the diaphragm was replaced in the old k-55v it measured roughly the same as the new aftermarket replacement. @Deang should remember that as an early promoter of the back then new driver option.
  17. Pulled the passive to see if it would fit in my Chorus II, took a few pics of the insides. The crossover is huge.
  18. Ok so since I had not put reinstalled the kd-16 yet figured I'd see if the new passive would fit. It does not seem to be much bigger when stacked on the other passives maybe 1/8th of an inch if that? But it will not sit flush in the Chorus II some very minor shaving would have to be done.
  19. What I have pictured above are stock passives from the Chorus II and forte II, I have not pulled apart my forte IV's. I suppose I could lay the forte down and place these passives on top of the new passive to see any size differences?
  20. Well finally got around to comparing these two passives and just now noticed they have different baskets, at least the ones I have. The forte II passive kd-15 has more and thicker steel and is noticeably heavier. Weight wise it is roughly 8oz heavier but the basket itself is likely the cause of that.
  21. I know I've wanted to see (along with many others) a new Chorus model for a long time now but these new forte's seem to combine the best attributes of the older Chorus / forte line. To me, the forte II was a little dark with recessed mids, bass was lower and more present at lower volume but a little boomy as compared to the Chorus II. These new forte's have a very balanced sound top to bottom, very smooth with lots of very tight bass. I think the Chief did these guys right, about the only thing that could be gained by a larger 15" version would be higher output? Maybe a little larger voicing with the bigger mid horn and woofer? I believe the forte IV does this line justice the Chief really did do a fantastic job with these.
  22. Been listening to these things as much as possible and they are breaking in quite nicely. I can say the Chief hit this one out of the park they are filling out to a much bigger and deeper sound and bass is getting crazy good. The slight brightness has gone away- very smooth and detailed and did I mention the bass? I'm not sure I'd have this much improvement in the bass with an added subwoofer they will knock things down in my room. The bass reminds me a lot of the Chorus II bass but tighter and cleaner while still having that enveloping sensation.
