  1. Maybe you have a rare gem there. The specs state MDF and all the extended-heritage I've ever opened up are that way.

And sale back on. The buyer didn't show up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Fortes have always been MDF.

    What I Got Today!

Here's the setup. Ignore the NAD amp, that's for some other speakers.

    What I Got Today!

Haven't listened long yet, but initial impressions: these are impressive. They are warm and don't have the brightness the RP series can have. I don't understand how they got so much bass from these. And, to me, they are voiced like the palladiums. Seriously good bookshelves.

    Speakers

I think you've posted these a number of times. Location? You'll get more interest with additional pictures, condition, and description.
  7. Awesome room! I'll put in my vote for black as well. Would look great in there! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I haven't. I got the extra radiator and never installed it. These were used in a bedroom so they weren't played all that much so I hadn't gotten around to it.

Yea...it's very minor, but wanted to point it out.

  12. I don't think I'll be able to make it. This came up faster than I thought! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I've owned both and still have fortes. It really depends what you're looking for, but my vote would be fortes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Nice! GLWS. I do have to ask though, what is that sub?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Not too far from me. I'd like to hear more too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. I've enjoyed the titanium diaphragms I've put in the tweeters of Quartets, Fortes, and KG4s. I've never changed out the mids. When implemented properly, I think the metal diaphragms work well. The aluminum used in the Altec drivers to me sounds a bit softer and I do appreciate that. I don't completely care for the titanium in the RF-7II - that actually sounds metallic to me, but could probably be a combination of things. I wonder if someone did an A/B test on driver material, how many times I could get it right. Part of what we perceive is psychosomatic - your visual perception or prior knowledge will play a part. Floyd Toole had shown this in blind tests. A speaker that LOOKS like it should sound good, had received better ratings when the listener could see it (obviously not always the case, but certainly interesting). I'm guessing the same may happen when we know the material used.
  18. Tone controls/l-pads on speakers seem to be pretty much only on studio monitors these days. "Audiophiles" have this thought that any change to the signal is blasphemy. They'd rather change amps and speakers than ever touch a tone control.
  19. What I am saying, and what I gathered from Roy's post, was pointing to a 700hz vs 600hz horn and automatically saying the 600hz is better is inaccurate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. We'll have to disagree on whether the 19 was one of the best...you don't see people asking about "upgraded" drivers on those or horn changes. I would be interested in what you think is their best model. As far as crossover point, I think Roy mentioned that just pointing that because one horn has a lower point means absolutely nothing for sound.
  21. Ever hear the Altec 19? 15" woofer and crossover point of 1200hz. One of the best speakers ever made and no one I've ever had over has ever thought there was discontinuity in the sound.
  22. I'm positive he did. I was saying it is a good indication of the titanium being a good choice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
