  1. I tried bi-wiring a pair of PSB Stratus Silver i’s years ago, after my Polk days, but before the dawn of horns, lol. I always use the shortest equal run of wire possible. I think at that time it was 14 gauge Monster cable about 10 feet long off the back of a NAD C370. I really wanted to hear a difference, but could not. When I bi-amped them (two NAD C370’s) it was night and day. That is how they stayed until I entered my pre-Klipsch Cerwin Vega phase (CLSC-215’s!) that marked the end of my pursuit for the “studio sound”, and navel gazing... I have never been in a studio with a band, I have heard a few live though! Two weeks is a good aural burn in time, curious what your findings are!
  2. Congratulations, please post some pics and your impressions here when you get the chance. Inquiring minds and all...
  3. Yes, the specs...! And the official tech speak behind a tractrix port. Hit me!
  4. Toronto is a heck of a haul from Chicago. And the exchange rate makes it another world. I apologize for the riddle. I am even more sorry the duck is more popular than The Beatles... sigh
  5. First word IS Greater... Weed is legal and healthcare is free. Well, free after you give more than half of your income to the taxman, er tax-person... Their basketball team has an annoying mascot that is more popular than The Beatles...
  6. Ok, just to recap... If you are close enough to snag these, the ONLY question you ask is if you can pick them up immediately!

Another bump for a great thread
  8. H IV (!) no thanks... H IIII or H4, maybe?
  9. LOL! I’m at the phase in my life that when my impatience curve trends upwards, I count my blessings (LaScala’s, Chorus 2’s, Cornwall’s... lol) Thanks to the many constructive, patient, and KNOWLEDGEABLE members of this forum I am also at the point in my life where I hold certain truths to be self-evident. 1. There is no replacement for displacement. The bigger the better. If you have the room, fill it. 2. Don’t deny it until you try it. You will always wonder... @Falcar, welcome to the forum. Your journey is headed in the right direction. Stick around and enjoy the ride.
  10. Hey, take a look at the wire connections on your K-55V’s... Are they soldered on or do the wires go into spring-loaded push terminals? You may have a pair of the golden child’s of LaScalas! What exactly were you referencing by “these run warmer than others”? Nice entry to the forum! BTW ...more pictures... lol
  11. The moral of the story here is, amongst other things, strike while the iron is hot! He who hesitates is lost. If the price is right, the only question to ask is “how soon can I pick them up?!” Here is a small list of the ones I let get away: K-horns for 2200, LSI Fibreglass for 1200, KLF 30 for 800. ...sigh...
  12. This brings up a whole other tangential question, don’t mean to hijack but I can’t be the only one asking: Is a bigger slot better than a smaller slot? ...get your mind out of the gutter... For instance, is high end/low end response better/worse with one versus the other? One of the first things that struck me when I opened up the FH1 bins was the larger slot compared to the LS bins.
  13. How do you keep a REAL Klipsch fan in suspense...? ...tell you later! LOL!
  14. From what I have come to understand from these forums, 4 ohm woofers can produce 3db more bass from a given wattage over an 8 ohm woofer in the same application. Ohm’s law and all that... The crossover for a 4 ohm woofer is also designed for that impedance. Changing impedance of drivers in a given crossover dramatically changes the crossover frequency. This affects other factors engineered into the design. I’m thinking polar responses for starters, 2nd and 3rd order harmonics,... but haven’t fully come to understand those, yet...
  15. The issue with the Kappa 15C is the “pool noodle foam” gasket. It really does need to be more rigid. The tighter you bolt it down, the more the gasket compresses. I imagine it would loosen up and create other issues if not tightened enough. Bit of a balancing act. In my case I was able to crank it down hard enough to make one of my LS bins buzz at spirited levels. The designers of the Peavey FH1 bass bin saw fit to router out the motorboard where the woofer is mounted to eliminate this issue entirely. See picture below... Make no mistake about it though, the difference between the venerable K-33 and the Kappa 15C is day and night. I prefer it over the K-43 in both the LS and FH1 bass bins too.
  16. This story brings up a point I have never had occasion to share. I have removed tweeters to replace diaphragms only to find the bolts holding the lenses on were loose enough to be spun off with one finger. Certainly something to keep in mind when giving a used set of speakers the once over. Great to hear the successful resolution of this.
  17. Taking a second look at the picture, that shiny middle of the tweeter may indicate the Ti diaphragms are already in there... That would be a bonus. You would only be one step away from where I was headed with these:
  18. Those are Cornwall 2’s If the Chorus crossover is still attached to the terminal plate you have a little bit more extension in the woofer and midrange than originally intended by the engineers at Klipsch. CW(1,2) crosses at 600/6000. CH1 crosses at 650/7000. Whether that is good or bad is subjective. The K-34 (K-33 dressed up) woofer can easily go higher, maybe less “harsh” midrange as a result, and you won’t have any overlap in the midrange and tweeter as the K-57 rolls off by 7kHz. Nice for when you put titanium diaphragms in the tweeters! Now you’re going to have to pull the the terminal plate off, carefully, to have a look-see!
  19. Looks like a new tariff has been applied in the trade war...
  20. Is that a 45 gallon drum in the bottom left? ...methylamine?! LOL!
  21. Kg4’s? Forte 1’s have the smaller passive too.
  22. Anybody remember the almost made it to market two-way prototypes “The Fifteens”? Call them a Chorus 3 or a Cornwall 4, either or, but THAT was the shape of things to come. Two way, tractrix, 15” woofer... Here’s a crazy idea, instead of the powered, active option, how about a passive with TWO crossover frequency options in the same cabinet? ROCK (800hz) and SET (500hz). What’s another 700 bucks when you are several grand deep? They were beautiful from the aesthetic standpoint too. Maybe optional glass tops so wifey can put plants on top!
