  1. Wow, I could not find one in the batch that I could at least like some aspect of. It is sad that these places sell - it just encourages more of them to be built.
  2. Hi Marvel, How do I do this? I have AA crossovers with the factory autoformers. I agree that mids are too loud.
  3. She actually started looking up CDs while we were listening! She is not into music at all - for her to do that is quite a statement.
  4. I have run into another issue - my son and wife want me to keep them in the living room. My wife loves the sound, and my son thinks they look cool. Hmmm... Not what I had in mind, however, it is a room perfectly suited to them. My son hooked up his iPod to listen to his favorite songs (he's 10), and I played a CD my wife and I listened to with him when he was an infant - she loved the way it sounded. I wanted them at my office, but it will be weeks before I can move them. I guess I'll leave them here for a bit. I run a Denon AVR-3803 in there which not only has excellent amps in it (100W x 7 even at all channels driven), but has a Burr-Brown DAC for each channel. Sound has always been terrific, and should work w ell with these speakers. I'll report back in time.
  5. It was an easy diagnosis - in that circuit path, there is just the transformer and one capacitor. Since the cap was new, there was only one other option.
  6. Ok, changed out the transformer - that did it, now it sounds like the other - I was going to say "normal", but I do not know what that is :-)
  7. Sorry to all, but it turns out this was included with the La Scalas on purpose as one of the AA transformers was bad and this was included for parts. My apologies.
  8. So, I finally just moved them from the listening room to the living room. Fortunately WAF is not an issue - my wife does not care :-). And the verdict: they sound terrible. Ran them for a few hours, but sound like they are running out of phase. Just ran an test on a different amp - one of the mids sounds great, the other awful, very "horny". Sounds like a PA speaker. I'll change out the transformer as the cap is new. I have a spare transformer that came with the speakers (now I know why). I'll report back.
  9. Deleted. Not a positive comment.
  10. Hey Robo, thanks for posting this. I always prefer DIY to store bought. What drivers/boxes did you use? Do you think the 3000DSP is needed? Could you get away with a 1000DSP or 2000DSP and save some $?
  11. Ah, yes, I was not paying attention. I am just starting out in the Klipsch Heritage world, and after listening to the La Scalas I have, I can see the power of being able to adjust each driver individually. I may have to go with an active x-over, but will give them time to break in first. Interesting info, thanks for posting it.
  12. Hmmm... me thinks someone may be looking for those. Super low price, blocked serial #......
  13. Interesting. Too bad there is that 12db valley at the crossover point, but I doubt you can hear it. I wonder if it was worth the effort...
  14. I bought a pair of Bose 901s for the EQ and stands. Speakers were trashed from water damaged.
  15. Gah! Speakers are not plant holders. Seen some sun too.
  16. Record the discs to cassette. That should soften them up :-) I am hoping I'm not in the same boat once the La Scalas come online.
  17. Yeah, but I wish they had more ads on the pages.
  18. Gees, I am tempted to buy one just for fun, but I *really* do not need one. I wonder how it sounds. EDIT: Ah, this has the AT 'table. I thought it was the kit with the Pro-Ject 'table.
  19. Holy moly.... I need to hear some Jubs some day.
  20. I have an old Denon ACR-3803 I've used daily for 15+ years and I have been very pleased with it. Plenty of real, clean power and it has not skipped a beat.
