  1. One last option - already mentioned I believe - My Denon remembers the settings per input. The input channel levels could have been inadvertently changed somewhere along the line and when you change inputs there is no problem. The other option you will be able to see with your speaker switching is, as mentioned early, the loss of the HF. I had a tube issue downstairs that affected the highs on one channel and the results were very much something that would be described as 'muddy'.
  2. Now we have the side speakers - Heresy in the ceiling - the two rear are small infinity to the right outside of the picture hidden behind closet.
  3. Ok - Here goes. If all works well this first shot is the Plasma with Heresy main, my home made heresy vertical center and SVS 20-39 PCI sub.
  4. Aaah - another all Heresy HT convert. I have been all Heresy for the better part of 5 years and I am a true convert. For size, fit and timbre matching I am very pleased. Further, I have had many folks by that revel in clarifying the faults of an audio system rave about the sound from my set up. The set up - Heresy mains, heresy sides (placed in the ceiling), modified Heresy center (built with H I scavenged parts) and an SVS PCI sub. I do nave some small infinity for my back two speakers (shame on me - but I flat out ran out of space). A good Rat Shack SPL meter does wonders - I use this for HT, SACD, Stereo (5 channel is preferred)
  5. What MAS said is a great start (and probable solution).
  6. Echo on the congrats. I haven't spent much time listening critically to the Heresy III, but my music/HT is a mix of Heresy and Heresy II. They are close enough to be a very good match, but there is a bit of 'tinny' sound on the H I when closely compared to the H II (all is very subtle). If the differences are as minor between the H II and H III - you should have something that sounds reasonably like all Heresy. Enjoy.
  7. Wouldn't gravity make those heavy bass waves sink? [] The bar Khorns is a great idea and I have been in a couple where they have been used and always walked away impressed. Using the ceiling as part of your set up is intriguing and could probably be set up in a way that makes the sound no different than if you reversed the set up. Good luck. Let us know where and you will get some American visitors..... Cheers.
  8. Yes you can add the amps later. For a small room you may find you like the Marantz.
  9. Insinuation was not my objective []. I am in a bit of a conundrum - while I am not so sure of the 'class' of the Indy folks I like them anyway. Besides, who wouldn't like that avatar with the cute smiling little Felix.... I be bushed - 3.5 hours of using a pick axe and shovel and I (with much gratitude to the lovely wife for helping) have at least gotten the steep portion of the driveway done with a turn around so I can negotiate the flatter icy stuff. I am not as accustomed to manual labor - I quite often was thinking that the 4 wheel drive vehicle would suffice and the heck with having a second vehicle available.... I can only venture a guess as to which portions of my body will hurt the most tomorrow.
  10. Sorry to be late to this gab fest. I have not, intentionally, read the stuff that got all this going. But I do have some comments. First of all - don't know Roy, so won't comment. Al and John Warren have been two of the best technical user sources I have used in my own projects over the years. I noted that another of my trusted resources - DeanG - referenced their rather interesting 'relationship'. Trey helped me out of a jam several years ago on trying to match heresy woofs on my home brew center channel. He remains a trusted source and I like that he is trying to bring a bit of Arkansas class to the Indy folks. All said - good folks that can be quite a bit bull headed and any of the voices are missed. Lastly - Tom B, great furniture and welcome back. Thebes my man - like that taking over a thread for simple reading pleasure. Sheltie Dave - Enjoy the excursion today, I still have about 150 feet of downhill driveway to chop up the ice on.
  11. Very nicely done John (and helpful). I am starting to collect data to help determine the end result of new speakers to be built for a redesigned living area and you are, as usual, delivering quality info.
  12. Folks have already given the basic ground loop advice (which is good). If none of this works I would also look at my direct to source connections at amp, pre and TT. I have seen, more than once, the loop introduced in an often used RCA connection (bad/cold solder, etc.). It is most often with TTconnections as well.
  13. I agree with the above - it is a bit like classic cars. Do you keep them original (my preference) or do you hot rod them? I think you will find solutions with the good qualities of the 511 without the ringing issue, however - if the chore to refurbish to original is no greater than the fin cutting then I might well cut the fins....
  14. Hello Widget - Got any Lansing alternatives for our spinner friend that may get a bit closer to what he wants?
  15. No gaurantee, but should work - looks like it covers the bases, and if not you could drill and seal.
  16. I agree with djk - many of jbl's woofers with their well designed boxes are impressive. I also agree that the speakers mate well with SS (probably due to the high freqs being less 'detailed'). My current favorite speakers are my JBL pro homebrews - each with 2404h tweet, 2425h mid with 2370 horn and 2225 15" woof in a jbl speced box. Xovers are 3115 and 3110 with slight mods to accept the 8 ohm config. The folks here are genuinely helpful: http://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbulletin/index.php?s=35fc79d972d2f19694496177e88629a9 Beware - not all are Klipsch fans, but more than a few are like me -very much a fan of each. A large number own both Klipsch and JBL.
  17. I am with ssh on this. No phantom setup I ever tried matched a well matched center. Try to find a way to make it happen - you will not regret it. Afterall, its only money...
  18. What Gil said. I have 4 Heresy on their side in my HT/SACD area and after some experimentation I think it is the best I could get for my set up.
  19. I am interested in the reaction of this non dimpled thingy as well. Using the above bullet example - the reason barrels are 'rifled' is that the early weapon's bullets became dramatically irratic as soon as the propulsion effects wore off. In other words the bullet would turn into a knuckle ball and lose speed quickly and start a tumbling act. There is point where increasing velocity has limited effect on the distance accuracy of a flat trajectoried, non spinning object. Now - that is all quite different if you decide on a parabolic trajectory. That may be more akin to reentry. There is much less of the knuckle ball effect comparatively when you use an arching shot (much like cannons). Rifling is still a great idea here as well, but you can manage greater distance and accuracy even when the ball is not spinning.
  20. 3 cheers from me for Pauln and Doc Who - As I remember and understand it - combined you two hit it on the nose. For the most part I got the others, but they were discussions that looked closer at 'effect' - relevant, but not clearly answering the riddle. As to the horn concept - I stand by my simple comment - in one way or the other it is manupulation of frequencies to get the desired effects relative to the constricted space and shape. That does seem like similar concepts to our audio mis-adventures. Fun stuff folks...
  21. Very cool stuff D-Man. Actually it is all the same physics - just quite different inputs and frequencies. It is all about using the efficiencies created by the shape.
  22. From all I have read and tried - absorption and trapping are something I can have much better success with than diffusion = for all the reasons noted above. I think it requires more experience and dilligence to get noticable good resuls from diffusion tactics. That is the same reason I generally keep my fingers out of the deep inner workings of an amplifier....
  23. That is correct - the chamber is the results of the laws of nature and in no way changes the rules we live by.... BTW - our friend from Klipsch and the young Doctor got it right on the behavior of sound waves...
  24. I have taken my posts off this thread. I was not aware that they were being found offensive by the authur. This has been a lively and entertaining read. I hope it continues. Gil - as to your public comments on lechery, etc., while not directed at me, I participated. You would be amazed at what a PM can accomplish with me. I guess we all choose our own forums for expression (as I just did by responding publically). As Marty said - your knowledge is invaluable and has been very helpful. Cheers.
