  1. Contact Bob Crites, BEC on this forum. He can fix you up with new caps to fit your taste and budget. http://www.critesspeakers.com/
  2. We look forward to updates upon arrival. Your CWs should arrive in fine shape. Perhaps a consolidated Cornwall vault thread can be created to explain the process, Forward Air, etc. and then be pinned below Hudson Valley Noah's thread about posting photos.
  3. I hope people are following Coytee's suggestion to sign the vault with a good black marker, e.g. Sharpie. Name (forum and/or real), location and date would be great. It's too bad no one thought of it in the past. That large metal box on a pallet has been around and helped many.
  4. Bruce- There's no shortage of those who criticize the theory. The naysayers are not among those who've tried it. There's a distinct shortage of those who've tried it who would go back to un-ported. No one is forced to try it. People love to say that something with which they're unfamiliar is not as good as what they already know. That will never change.
  5. My experience is that a decrease in efficiency, if any, is negligible. The most useful information (which seems to be almost universal) is that those who have tried it would not go back. As others have said, any La Scala I own will get this easily reversible modification.
  6. I also have one that needs attention. I'll be checking with a local (Detroit area) repair person tomorrow and report back. I'd also be interested in other suggestions.
  7. . . . especially to the Canadian members of the forum. Now, if only I knew what Boxing Day is all about.
  8. According to Mythbusters, it takes off. "1. Come ON! We put a gall-durned actual, honest-to-goodness plane on a bona fide conveyor belt and it TOOK OFF. What MORE do you people WANT?! If you're not satisfied by that, I doubt that anything we could do would help." http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythbusters/top-ten/pocb/pocb.html
  9. Cool! If they were $200 each it would have been a bargain.
  10. W.C. I got the document but it seems to have a glitch. Please see my reply email. The "Right This Minute" triple treat has happened before and was resolved. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who's seeing triple.
  11. The details of this ambitious and well documented project are most impressive.
  12. Q: "you haven't given sufficient information to answer the question. What color is the plane and is it night or day?" A: Silver and yes.
  13. What do you expect him to say? He preferred the Polks when he bought them. I'd go with La Scalas. If he were selling a Mustang and he said it would blow your Corvette away would you lose sleep?
  14. The capacitors in your CWs are old. New ones will restore the sound to as new. The cost is minimal. Other "upgrades" could include new Crites tweeters, new squawker horns, etc,. The cost benefit ratio drops off rapidly after new caps. Use the search function to find more threads about "upgrading" Cornwalls than you'll ever read.
  15. Everything looks original. Enjoy them as they are for a while. Eventually you might consider new caps for the networks. Bob Crites is a good person to contact.
  16. After many years with Comcast Internet, TV and VOIP phone, I dumped it and got AT&T U-Verse. So far, I couldn't be happier. The picture is better, more channels, HD and DVR at each set and all for less money. If the Internet is slower (which I suspect is the case) it's insignificant. Large file downloads take no longer, IMO, than with Comcast. Comcast was fast when it worked but too many times lately I had to use my AT&T buisness line to call Comcast to report no phone or Internet. In 10 years, the only problem with my AT&T lines (phone & fax) was noise on the lines from squirrels dining on the outside wire, which AT&T quickly fixed. The squirrel cooked up nicely.
  17. Listening to YouTube recordings of speakers (as Dtel indicates) is questionable on a computer, due to "computer speakers." It's nothing like watching an ad for an HD TV on an HD TV where the picture on the TV in the ad looks way better than the picture on your TV.[]
  18. The photo shows a woofer in place. The "V" is the roof of the "dog house" and it's to the left in the photo. Obviously, the other woofer goes into the other cabinet. The view is from the bottom with the access cover removed. The woofers in the photo were purchased from Bob Crites who was recommended to you in your other thread. Bob can help you with refreshing the networks. Welcome to the forum. Enjoy your LaScalas!
  19. The exploded view seen many times on this forum (I think Marvel might have originated it) should help you understand. The woofer faces the back; it fires into the throat, the vertical rectangle. It's a bifurcated folded horn. The sound is split left and right and then directed forward past the "V" into the room.
  20. The restored and modified SCA-35 is still running strong, And, the Internet remains an extremely flawed medium for conveying sarcasm and nuance.
