  1. Only a 2.5 hour drive away, and I’m renovating a bedroom into a reading/audio room. Look honey we saved $85 grand! oddly, there have been some very expensive sets of gear on CAM lately... hmmm economy must be bad... yes indeed.
  2. @ebrandon sorry but as you can see, you fell into the alien world of speaker cable discussions on this forum. The real answer likely is ... spend what you are comfortable with but really do be careful not to get sucked into the marketing hype. If you can hear a difference great, but don't buy based on what others say or the marketing brochure claims. This might be, in competition with capacitors, the biggest sink hole in audio spending. Good luck with your decision and I hope you have gotten the answer you were looking for (not likely).
  3. When I was into analytical chemistry, we had access to; scanning electron microscope, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer and argon plasma emission spectrometer... We searched and searched and couldn’t find any electron puddles! But the spinning band distillation column was always busy on Friday before the hockey stick barrel brew party.
  4. @JohnA you don’t strip off the sheathing, at the termination ends, for bare copper connections?
  5. Gotta love a cable thread! I am disappointed no one has suggested the lunar magnetic, pixie dust, carbon mono-layer cables. Oh, and the martian atmospheric encrypted cable tents. There is a lot of writing both in this forum and elsewhere about using Ethernet CAT cable to make DIY speaker cables. I build my own cables out of CAT6 Ethernet cable, way less than $1/foot as you can get lots of Ethernet cable off Kijiji/Craigslist etc as folks seem to overbuy for their data network projects. Get at least CAT6 - 22AWG. The biggest issue is your patience in stripping the 22 gauge pairs, then either twisting them (use a drill) or braiding them (if you want a flatter cable). The beauty with this approach is you can make the cable any way you want with final effective gauge that you want. I've done anywhere from 2 sets (that is 16 x 22 gauge) up to 4 sets (32 x 22 gauge). I've found that for my advance age ears ... 24 x 22 gauge (effective 8 gauge final cable) is the sweet spot and with 3 sets of cable it is easy to braid. Then the termination is either banana plugs if I am moving things around or straight bare wire if a more permanent setup. If you are at all interested, send me a PM and I can send you some pics and a write up I've done on making these cables. The biggest help was finding an "automatic" cable stripper that you set to the size of cable. Absolutely necessary when dealing with all those fine strands of copper. Good luck, you can spend a significant amount of mental power on going down the cable rabbit hole.

One quarter of the season is gone, one third of the starting quarterbacks are gone. Gonna run out at this rate.
  7. Rant on... Called the help line of the OEM who made my music server because I couldn't get it to connect to my WiFi network. Was told to fill out an online form, then call back with the trouble ticket number. I complied (under duress and not happy). Called back with ticket number. Was then told, device does not do WiFi. Please read technical details I must connect it to my network only via Ethernet. Slogan in the marketing brochure in big letters said "WiFi you HiFi". Hmmmm. Ok, so only my phone/tablet will WiFi to the music server which is Ethernet'ed to my network. Yes, that's on page 79 of the technical manual in small print. Have a nice day. Last contact with that company. Fortunately, music server is much better than their customer relations, marketing truthfulness, and help desk. Rant off.
  8. @WillyBob no problem re. SA, it's deserved when ... I have a house on Vancouver Island yet still find myself somehow here in Cow Town waiting for the snow to arrive. I like hot sauce, keep it around to make sure I'm alive when it's -25 Celsius out. That and Scotch.
  9. Ok, while your harvest is on ... we Calgarians are getting ready for the first snow fall of the year and bringing all my plants inside.

I have some real JBM beans waiting for this Christmas! I was just in London England this past weekend and at Harrods Knightsbridge, they had JBM Nespresso pods! I’ve never seen that before, but wow they were expensive. They’re still there if anyone is heading over. We bought from the 50% off discount bin only.
  12. I really like the cane grills, great job bringing some of PWK’s and all the Klipsch workers’, hard efforts back to life for another 40 years! That’s the part of restoration/ update that I like. To think that you have preserved work that folks in Hope did originally all those years ago and it will be around for a long time to be enjoyed by others now.
  13. See 2-Channel Home Audio thread and topic Klipsch Heritage “Codes” in this forum. Your Heresy are 1983 version 1’s which are easy to work on as the back panel comes off with 8 screws. Listen to them and enjoy! If you want to do any work on them, this is THE forum, from wood work to drivers to crossovers all the information you need is here mainly under Technical Modifications thread.

Per one article, NE had not yet paid the $9M signing bonus to AB, it was due on Monday. So, he can try to get that back, but I doubt it. However the league still counts it, even if not paid, against the cap prorated over the 2 years of contract. Just glad he’s gone and hope NE concentrates on the other folks they have who are more than good enough, just need a few good O linemen! 3 starters down already. But if anyone can coach them up it’s Dante.
  15. @wvu80 where did you get the stands under the TV legs? Those look like a great idea. I have a Martin Logan Theatre I which is a great center channel but very tall, so I built a wooden stand for my TV, which has a central stand on it. I would like something a bit more elegant than my 4 minute garage woodworking special!

Steep time, like beans and grind etc is a personal choice. With non acidic beans like Hawaii beans, I use a bit more time. I use cream and sugar because my stomach doesn’t tolerate acid well. Once you find a system, eg. by weight or volume and steep time, then it becomes a mater of consistency. chocolate covered coffee beans are great! All the caffeine and no water dilution.

@JohnJ yes, sludge! Kona and Kauai coffee plantation mixed with espresso. I used a glass bodum press until it broke when it tipped over on the quartz counter. Now we have a steel one.

You’re going to get a big spectrum of attributes. I use medium fine grind of a mixture of Kona and dark espresso beans, well stirred initially and 12 minutes of steep time. But I take mine with whipping cream and coconut palm raw sugar, so there goes all the effort to taste the coffee!
  19. That will be a great show, have fun!
  20. "heresy and LaScalas fuses need fiddled with ". Wow my 2 sets of Heresy are seconds I guess, they didn't have fiddle fuses.
  21. This is an interesting question. First you need photos of all invoices for material, a write up of you labour and why you took certain approaches and I’d keep some eBay or amazon adds for items you’d consider “similar “, that’s the tricky part for sure. Some of Arek’s work maybe relative to your fine efforts? If you needed to claim at least then you have some documentation as a starter? More qualified people than me, who have seen your work on this forum could offer their thoughts, but I think some comparisons to commercial gear would go a long way to an adjuster. And there in lies the problem. If you get an answer please share it. My efforts are minuscule, but I should be documenting some of my work too.

I suppose O'Brien would say he did not expect that the NO kicker would set a personal best in the last 2 seconds of that game! But, when you play indoors ... looked like he had a good 5 more yards on that kick, so might have been good from about 63 yards out? Week 1 sure changes the air pressure (ode to deflate gate) in teams' preseason hype. Reality sets in sometime in November, then everyone scrambles to try to get into the January fun. For those who might read Peter King FMIA, see this week's edition and the comment he does on other writers which I think is pretty cool for him to do. The clip about Bart Starr and his wife was just plain amazing human context.
  23. I like the family rules about turning off cell phones at the "gatherings", meals or otherwise. I acknowledge the use for emergencies which were not possible before cell coverage. But, I've seen the police videos of people driving and texting and it isn't pretty. ON STAR used to be able to provide contact in the event of an emergency. I wish we could have our phones go air plane mode in a car, except for ON STAR like coverage. Must be a way!
