  1. You could always put 1 puck on each corner of your otherwise very nice looking risers?
  2. @WMcD, your suggestion of Kelvin reminded me ... saw a documentary once where the Science folks froze things to such a low Kelvin temp ... they discovered a fourth state of matter it was neither liquid nor solid nor gas (for sure not gas at the low temp). But, I don't find too many appliances with Kelvin range on them, so I'll keep to Celsius or Fahrenheit which I can sometimes navigate. Calgary looking to get above Zero C next week, Yahooooo!
  3. Here's one of the sub in the bottom of the stand... the sub is a Velodyne DD10, front firing ... important. I have 2, one in each stand under the Heresy. P.S. the tweeter is from @Dave A The Heresy's are SuperHeresy ala @ClaudeJ1 recipe. The other forum member with really really nice wood work on his stands is from Kissimie/St. Cloud Florida, maybe he'll see the post? Unfortunately, I did not keep his forum name!
  4. Hope this is clear enough ... rails were rounded which presented a gap when glued/screwed to the plywood top/base so there's lots of filler and sanding sanding sanding. Function over form I guess. You can see the bottom has a nice area for a sub. I'll find a pic with the sub inside the base if I can, likely will be a bit more distant than this. Finished this off with walnut stain, and then just beeswax, after a lot of sanding with up to 1,000 grit. Tops are smoooooth. The Heresy sit on a "pillow" of 1/8th inch neoprene and felt. The sub in the bottom sits on a thick styrofoam slab and the anti-vibration feet. I've seen much better looking stands by other forum members, one esp. by someone from Florida ... can't recall the member's name but his stands were beautiful, but had more of a center context to the vertical rails so no way to put something in the bottom of those ones. I'd use his design if I wanted Form vs Function!
  5. Built my set out of fir rails and plywood, for Heresy, and my subs fit in the bottom on a 2 inch foam and on isolation feet. Sounds like the Heresy have subs inside the cabinets. Stained the wood walnut to try to match the Heresy, not quite ... have a second set to build soon. Nice thing with building your own, you can make them however you want, and stain or paint them whatever colour you want.
  6. Red Green, now there is a modern day hero! I don't have any titanium drivers in my Heresy (2 sets), so can't help there, but have taken Mr. Crites' advice on other matters and I'd say he's batting 100%. Others with more experience hopefully will comment.
  7. @kevinmi ... Corvettes, Klipsch and Wine! Looks like you're set. Use to have a Corvette, still have my Klipsch... where'd my wine go? It is past 10AM after all. Enjoy your hobbies.
  8. It is hockey season after all! Nice work, stay dangerous and have fun with those.

    What I Got Today!

I have a set of ML Clarity which are like Heresy to Klipshorn with those 15a. You are going to love those speakers!
  10. Interesting Ebay add ... mostly because at the bottom of the add, the seller says they have 1 Belle for sale. No affiliation. Just in case someone needs KHorns and a Belle center channel ... in Vancouver or maybe the island? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Klipsch-Corner-Horns-totally-refinished-and-restored-with-Crites-upgrades/292757476330?hash=item4429b493ea:g:VigAAOSwvYZbtpmm:rk:1:pf:0
  11. Weather gurus just stated this was the 4th coldest Feb. in Calgary. I suspect I was in Alberta for another one (1978) or two (2008)? March isn't starting off any better tonight and tomorrow night approx. -30 deg C overnight lows. Ok, enough is enough.
  12. I recapped a pair of 1980 E crossovers and replaced the inductors, otherwise stock Heresy. I’d say it was worth every penny for more separation and clarity. I’ve also replaced 1984 Heresy x-over with a commercial set and also updated those crossovers with better caps resulting in better clarity and separation, but way more cost. Definitely worth doing, just figure out a budget.
  13. When we lived in Ft. McMurray Northern Alberta (way south relative to @YK Thom) I bought an Eddie Bauer Expedition coat (like LL Bean, but Canadian ... I think) ... this was way back ... it literally weighs 10 lbs all down. When it hit -51 deg C, I wore that coat for days. Buick Rendezvous had 4 flat tires and the info center said "Take me to a dealer". Engine management module frozen. We got our Yukon Denali stuck (high centered on snow) twice in the same storm. For those who have ever watched Survivor Man, he did an episode where he was stranded in a car in the "back country". That was interesting ... I paid attention. Spring can't come soon enough.
  14. You are right Emile ... -40 is the crossover! Calgary has warmed, gotten a ton of snow, then cold cold, and warm and looking to cool off again. Vancouver island (Victoria) had more snow last week than since the ice age. Daughter had to dig out the drive way and left her car on hill (she's a good winter driver having learned in Northern Alberta) due to cars all over the place on the way home. It was parked on the hill for 2 days before she could get it home.
  15. I have 1980 H1s all original except a completely rebuilt E crossover. i need to do the interior cabinet work, and dampen that K700 horn, etc. But I do like the sound in a heavily carpeted medium size room. I have 1984 V1.5 which I turned into Super Heresy which are, the best. But the H1s still sound amazing for a 1980 speaker pretty much all original. I'll keep those original and just have fun with the 1984 version. The two sets are in different cities but some day, I'll get them together for some listening and that will be enjoyable.
  16. I agree with @dtel re. quality ... but the old quality vs convenience debate has been had before and eventually, I think ... convenience wins out. The youngsters don't want to "find" the disc, put it in the right machine etc. And, they are the market... if not now eventually. So, I think quality will loose out except for a few hold outs. Now where did I put that 8mm camera?
  17. My wife discovered that I was looking into a 4K player and asked ... why, we don't buy any "media" anymore ... aka everything is via "the net". I think she's right, hence the end of Oppo players.
  18. @Islander I have a house in Victoria too, daughter has been sending notes and pictures ... tree down right below our house due to snow and wind (Saanich hillside), and power outages, on off and on off! Fortunately we have 3 fireplaces in the house too. Also, watch out for pets. There is an MSN story re. cat that went out side, but nearly froze to death. Fortunately vets were able to get "Fluffy" back. Don't let cat/dog wander off in extreme cold! Or kids for that matter.
  19. I once ate 10 Thai Red Bird peppers in a "contest". My face was red, my lips redder, my guts hurt for a bout a week. I won! I haven't received my prize yet and it was like 20 years ago? I have a commercial sauce called Endorphin Rush. Ouch. When your teeth hurt you know it's hot. I'll have to try making some sauce, you folks are making this sound like fun, esp. if I give the sauce away as present(s). I like the Honolulu Hot Sauce label on @Deang's bottle. That's a warning label if I ever saw one.
  20. Those pics could be from Calgary too! Except you'd be on a skidooooo. Going into deep freeze number 2. Getting a bit annoying now.
  21. And, just for fun, note you have 2 sub out ports ... hence twice the fun if you get a second sub! There's lots of discussion on the forums for sub(s), have fun and enjoy!

    Pork Rib rub

Our family does ... make all presents for Christmas, and secret Santa. This year I got my brother in law who's a big time smoker/griller. I'm going to collect up some of your recipes and make a homemade BBQ/Smoker/Rub recipe book for him, along with some homemade rubs. We have a really good spice store here in Calgary (close to where the knife store is that I mentioned in another thread ... re. knives), so can get lots of ingredients. They also have their own rubs, which are all really good. We've been making some of our own, but always on the look out for what others do. Thanks for this thread, I know there are others I'll search around in here.
  23. I think the secret to NE is ... once there is enough film on a team, BB can outstudy the best of them. He's got a very strong scouting background from his dad, so he knows how to watch film and pick an offense apart which is why the defense gets better as the year goes along ... that plus just the experience. I was worried when Chung went out with that broken arm/wrist/elbow. He's a big leader esp. against tight ends, but Rams hardly use a tight end. Jason McCourty saved the day with that end zone break up and Gilmore. It only took one offensive drive and usually, TB12 has 1 in him. Not a good game by him, he seemed off the whole game, no energy. Thankfully, Edleman was uncoverable and Gronk made the 1 big play. I think the Rams will be good again next year, but they'll have to deal with the reality of being so good this year in loosing players due to high contracts etc. I would pick KC, Pats, Rams and Bears for next year ... you heard it here first.
  24. As I've said before, Pats win and then BB and TB12 need to retire even though TB12 says he is going to keep playing. Let's get a new generation started, not sure who at QB but that's what BB is really paid for. Go Pats!
