  1. Especially for interconnects. Once hosted a Texas Bottlehead gathering and had two Marantz Sa-8260. One stock and another modified. Somehow when trying to show the difference between players all we did was change from some commercial stranded interconnects to my DIY cables made with cotton, Vampire 28 ga 6/9 solid core and Bullitt plugs. Everyone was blew away. Once we figured all that changed was the cable between the SACD and preamp the group wanted the formula to make an interconnect. The cable was a larger improvement than the countless hours spent modifying the players.
  2. I have family in Camden, Waverly, Huntsville, Nashville, Hopkinsville, Hendersonville, Chattanooga, Winchester, and Goodlettsville. Never get to see them all. Coming from Texas it all feels like Trumpville. Both states. Where is Trumpville TN?
  3. If I had held off on a pair of La Scala ii this would be mine. Need to go see family in TN. Looks great, I do not have room for another pair. Stacked they are bigger than our fridge.
  4. Which is solid core. I have used solid core for speaker and thought it was excellent.
  5. I doubt the squawker is down 40 dB at 5,000 Hz. I can believe the woofer is down that much.
  6. That response curve looks very flawed. No highs above 1K Hz? Down 20 dB by 2K Hz does not match what I hear. Is this maybe just the bass bin?
  7. When I used the original Zen amp it was with 15 ohm PM-7A silver drivers in a folded horn. That impedance is in the midrange. They get higher with frequency. I remember 30 - 40 ohms at the top end. Lots of inductance.
  8. 400 miles is a trip. The drivers have the better magnets. Most likely they are okay. I would 300.00 if meet halfway. 250.00 if you pick up.
  9. Make Shure the platter is level. If your cartridge is the issue, there are replacements listed at 40.00. I looked on Jico’s website and they show several different stylus for M-44.Starting at 29.00.
  10. I have Hiii and used a large sub. Worked great blended at 58 Hz. Both are 12 inch with acoustic suspension. Ended using a 6 dB slope with both rolling off due to bandwidth.
  11. They are looking much better. Glad they sound so good.
  12. Later model Zen have better output transformers and bias the input tube differently. Suspect they outperform mine. It was 399.00 around 2000. Sometime around then. Did not keep up with the 300B amps I had. I think all the Zen amps are 1 - 1.5 watts. They called them 5 watts, but that is a real stretch. With most Klipsch Heritage speakers that works. I need to get mine out and play it. It has been a long time. It is like fine wine aging in the attic. The cosmetics have improved over the years too.
  13. I still have one of their original amps, Zen. It was nothing special. It was a real 1 watt SEP stereo amp. You do not get a lot of output from a triode connected EL-84 in Single ended mode. The later versions are better and more expensive. If you want a handmade US built tube amp that is affordable that are not many options anymore.
  14. Try Howard’s Feed - N - Wax. Use it on all my wood.
  15. I picked my first Heritage speaker early this year. Now I have two pairs. But there will not be a third pair. Selling my old speakers.
  16. Did play with crossover. Raised x over to 65 Hz and changed slopes from 12 dB on both to 6 dB on Sub and 18 dB /octave on LS ii. Seems to have helped a little with the issue I had with distorted tracks. Less annoying. Put a few hours on them today. Definitely coming together. At maybe 25 hours now. Expect there will be more break in as the hours add up. They sound better than I expected. Compared to the LS I heard in the past the sound has better layering and flatter frequency response.
  17. I have a modified SL-1200 Mk II. Damped plinth, spindle bearing, rewired arm, damped arm tube, spindle and peripheral clamps. A few other items. Wish I had the new arm that is on the G model.
  18. I agree Gary. That is why I set it at 58 Hz. But maybe 65 or 70 would be better.
  19. This is what I hear. My Hiii seem less strident. I use a software crossover at 58 Hz. Using a four channel dac. I think more hours will help, plus will bump the Xover to 70 Hz. Gain structure may be an issue. I need to play with feedback on my amp to drop gain down a little. Have the LS ii padded down a little in the digital crossover to better match level of the Blue Sky Sub12. It may be I am not used to such low distortion for the speaker. The grittiness heard at times is at all volumes. Most times the sound is wonderful.
  20. I have used solid core for both interconnects and speaker wire. The stiffness is the biggest issue with the speaker cable. I think it does less damage to the sonics. And always unplated. Still have some solid core. Would be perfect for my Klipsch. Sixteen ga is fine. With interconnects, high purity copper wire in 24 - 26 ga is hard to beat. Gave in and use Canare Star Quad wire for my Klipsch.
  21. I do not have enough hours on my LS ii yet, maybe 20 hrs total. And half at low volume. The mids seem hot to my ears. Overload on recordings is painful. Too much of what I like must be in the red at times. An adjustable autoformer might be what i THINK is needed. Maybe just more hours. The layering, separation, and harmonics are spooky. End game.
  22. Excellent work, these are something you should mount on top, and not hide.
  23. My 70th La Scalas are what I expected. I will look at the crossover to see if they match yours.
