  1. Hope fresh crossovers has these singing. What is serial number to see DOB? Never used the Watco product. Excellent results using Howard.’s Wax and Feed. It will darken the color a little. The larger horn has three sloppy coats and it is several shades darker than raw.
  2. There are trade offs when bridging an amplifier. Higher gain, higher output impedance, and higher slew rate. The slew rate may be what you hear as an improvement in bass quality. Driving LS II with bridged Micromega MyAmps. Doubt going from 30 watts to 120 is audible with LS II. Something is.
  3. Is that the HD or still an analog carrier?
  4. This one is way under the radar. Accessories4less has the Micromega Myamp for 249.95. Retail is 649.95. Integrated, class AB, ESS dac, USB, and Bluetooth. Three analog inputs, pre outs, and mono sub out. Only 30 watts into 8 ohms, doubles to 60 into 4 ohms. Should be fine with HIII. Bought one amp thinking Micromega is a solid company who prides themselves on quality products. I waste 250.00 all the time. Love it. Fancy 256 step analog volume control. Remote too. Never had an amplifier or active speaker with remote before. I have not hooked to my Heresy III. Maybe 40 hours on La Scala II’s. Sound is excellent. And dead quiet. Ear to tweeter and there is no noise with gain maxed. Only used as a power amp, analog input from another dac with volume control. But saw someone post the internal dac is better than his Micromega MyDAC. Not tried the Bluetooth either. If it matters, designed and built in France. Mattered to me.
  5. Do not know how much of the Rockford home gear was inspired by Acoustat. Rockford purchased them and moved the operation from Florida. The Acoustat TNT-200 and TNT-400 were high current amplifiers for driving the low efficiency and low impedance electrostatic speakers they were known for.
  6. I did not know original shipping packages were available. Been wanting a smaller sized Mac stereo power amp for a while. Will make sure this does not happen. The cost of restoration would be prohibitive for this one. Would purchase several replacements.
  7. It is late to the game, I have a recommendation. Micromega Myamp. Integrated with a dac. class AB, not a digital amp. Dead quiet on La Scala ii. 30 watts into 8 ohms and 60 into 4 ohms. Best thing is 249.95 at accessories4less. Built in France too. Only have used as a power amp, it has a sweet volume control, Bluetooth, and remote control. Price is a highly discounted, they list for 649.95. I use homemade amps. This sounds identical. My amps have no dac, volume control, Bluetooth, or remote and cost me 800.00 to 1,000.00 to build.
  8. The black set in the middle is the K-77F used in the Scala ii.
  9. I have a low hour pair of La Scala II tweeters sitting. Maybe 200 hours and work perfect. Includes the horn. Changing out is not bad. Found a tutorial on this site. They have to be changed from the backside. There are screws holding them in place. First time it is a 30 minute job. Second unit time is 20. PM me if interested.
  10. I hate to say it, but my LS II most likely do not measure a lot better. At least in near field. Listening distance needs to be a lot more. Not that they sound the same.
  11. The picture is the unfinished back to the crucifix. The finish looks to be a high gloss clear. I like the grain pattern that runs through some of the wood. The wood is very stable and tough. They machine 10 mmm round beads and somehow orient to center bore with the the grain. All the holes are centered. Never had one crack. I am worse off than the worry about naming. The looks of the horn is important to me. Never see it again after installation.
  12. Then maybe only oil wood from the Middle East has the tight grain. The Spanish, Greek, and Italian olive groves are in a more temperate climate. The desire for tight grain is driven by the machining done. Noticed Dave has given in to helicoils or wood inserts. These are usually a very course thread on the outside and a machine thread on the inside.
  13. The local woods are great potentials. The tight grain for machine work would eliminate some. Used to cut hardwood north of Nashville. Railroad cross ties and rough cut lumber. Mostly large, open grain. But black locust, persimmon, and maybe dogwood are great candidates. Maybe others. My hardwood cutting was limited to very large trees. Had to get 5-6 cross ties plus lumber to justify cutting and transportation. I have several rosaries made from olive wood. Very tight grain, lot of dark streaks running through, large color variation. Time to spit the olive pits from your evening martini out on the hill above the house.
  14. Showed up today. True works of art. Need to yank the top hats apart and install now.
  15. Loosen and retighten all the connections. Including to the driver. Then recheck for sound quality.
  16. I took Roy’s lead and rewired my La Scala’s internally with StarQuad cable. Used Canare 4S6 for the tweeters and 4S8 for the mids inside the top hat. Left the stock 14 ga zip for the woofers. Routing the cable out of the top hat to the bass bin is best with thin flexible wire. Would use 4S11 if redoing and wanting to use StarQuad for all three drivers. Cost was maybe 4.00 USD for the pair. Biwiring between speakers and amplifier with 4S11 for low frequency and 4S8 for the mid/tweeters. This was around 40.00 USD due to wire size and length. Used Canare instead of AQ because it is what I have been using for a long time. Read that some high dollar, more than LS5 and AK6, speakers use it for internal wiring. Plus if you order speaker cables from Benchmark Media you get Canare 4S11. That is a high recommendation. In theory this is better than zip cord. Not sure if you can hear difference.
  17. Plus you really need to measure out in the room. The effects from floor loading are more pronounced. The output at the mouth should be increased, but not relative to 15’ away. That boundary effect continues all the way to the listening position. Same concrete floor.
  18. The pallet has most likey compressed two inches by now. It was bulging in the fall.
  19. The bass bins laying on the concrete floor really couples the wave launch to boost the bin output. If you stood them up, it might be better flat.
  20. Try some golf balls. Much better sound quality than tennis shoes.
  21. I will chime in on improving on the La Scala II. Mine are almost new, voided the warranty in the first three months. I looked at what the Newest changed, bracing for the top, internal wiring, and tweeter. Did all three to mine. For the tweeter used B&C DA120’s. DaveA made a set of horns from walnut. They are wider than the MAHL, the cutout in the motorboard is much wider the the normal K-77. He said he would make a set of the new Super MAHL for LS II when time permits. I may have to go sit in his laboratory while they are cut again. He made mine to get me to leave. I doubt if my dampening the top hat and rewiring the top hat with Star Quad Cable made much difference. Replacing the K-77 with a DA120 and walnut horn was a very audible improvement. Made the mids seem smoother. I spent some time listening with ears very close to each driver to hear what each did with familiar music playing. The K-77 did not sound musical. The Dave horn was an improvement. When listening at normal distance the new tweeter seemed to impact even the woofer sound. I have heard the use of a super tweeter can make an improvement in bass response. I use a single sub, crossover at 65 - 70 Hz and differing slopes. Usually filter the sub at -6 dB and the Las Scala at either -12 or -18 dB/octave. Still playing with the sub setup. Always seems improved after adjusting frequency and slopes.
