  1. Now I'm curious how this thing turns out.
  2. For the money its fine, I have a 616 in a bedroom, THX and pretty robust for cheap. When I buy a radio the feature set needs to meet my needs for the unit. I generally consider preouts a must unless more power will never be needed for its use. Strange as it is, many avrs with preouts are the mid upper end less likely to need them......
  3. Ha.....unless there is a reason no need to mix , use 7 with 7s or 64 w/7II. Either setup would be great and leave little room for complaint. I know I lived with the whole 7 set many years and it always satisfied. I now use a rc7 with klf 30's with titanium mod. I tried the c7 "matches klf" and it was fine, but I am much happier with the rc7.
  4. I have to agree...but....that was hooked to Onkyo and such avrs. When I got a Rotel pre and a big Rotel amp I never heard a harsh note. As to the rc7 v 64, I had both, the rc7 is the clear winner to me. I still have two I may never part with, I've heard none better. They simply pound out the bass on concerts, dvda/ sacd. Also...when I went to buy new 7IIs they were so ugly compared to 7's I disliked them immediately. I still gave em' a good audition but didn't really care for the new sound compared to originals. Beauty is in the eye so that's just imo......
  5. If it's possible you will see a switch on the rear generally. I would like to think a Denon or Marantz could drive any of these but who knows? Long ago I had a JVC receiver with that switch, I never used it as I assume it just cut power when set at 4 ohms. If my receiver had that switch or could not drive 4 ohms I would get an amp if there was pre outs. If not I would get a different receiver . Last if you have 4ohm speakers on a weak amp be careful with the volume knob.
  6. I mostly agree ,so just in relation to performance.........smaller speakers can still create a very convincing home theater set up. Small speakers do not create a convincing concert presentation or powerful musical either, imo. They can sound great, but output is limited. I'll note that for lower to average volumes, db, there can be minimal difference, small could even be better if it's great small vs mediocre big.
  7. I consider the 20's and 30's best candidates for my needs. We watch tv a lot in my den, 130 inch screen/avr/speakers. I need tv to sound good, concerts to be great, movies to be great and music plenty good enough to enjoy. The KLFs are perfect for the multi purpose (to me) needs. Lots of Klipsch speakers can do all those things really well, but some do better than others. I've had a bunch of speakers in this spot, the 30's beat out the rest for me, and my wallet. It would be great if there were a market for new KLF 30s with updated drivers/xover. I'm thinking those days are over.
  8. Stop right there...Lets say I got a coconut ? I read the whole rest of the thing but I'm still thinking about it.
  9. Absolutely, if they are made with the same parts, the same way.
  10. Many HT speakers are skinny , or small, or both. My take is a HT speaker may not cover the full range. A sub will fill in lower freq. and provide a fuller sound in lower region. An HT speaker will excel at effects with great accuracy, a gunshot or something falling etc...What I call a 2 channel speaker needs to be big and go down to 20's in freq.response. That's the reason I like Klipsch for HT, very accurate, and they can do music well also, even if a sub is needed. In my car hole I have some Cerwin AT-15s , they provide full range and monster bass, no sub needed, at all, and the db levels can be insane with a big amp.
  11. Wow....this has been busy....For something very elementary, which most would agree,........But it don't matter what you got, there's always some wacky way of seeing it. The very reason things have moved to where they are is real things can be twisted by those that have the inclination. Thing is, you can't fool all the people all the rime......We promise to die off eventually.....Then things will be sweet, then not....Then it can all start over again..... Nature has a proven way of dealing with these things. Nature intends species be smart to survive. When they become too dumb..............Till then..Lets Have a Nice Day !
  12. I really don't know, I bought em' used. I also have 30's that have been upped to titanium. Whatever the 20's are I would not change them.
  13. Good point, I've never considered Bob Dylan Sounded like Black Sabbath, neither did my 90 year old Dad.......
  14. I'm thinking you heard a different presentation..........if not naturally you can think as you like......I would not waste much time debating if the earth is round...
  15. Not sure I totally get that. The generations before me had hardly any musical science and the recording equipment and gear were not even developed. The point was mainly quality of music, not just types. I had Zero friends that listened to music from the 1920's in the 60/70s, not even my parents. There are millions of 20/30 year olds that listen to music from the 60/70s,
  16. Wow, that picture takes me back to when I first unpacked my 7 set up. Great sub, Good Luck.
  17. My thought exactly, bean counters and money said, "It's science", do it.
  18. Well that's an interesting ? I have a Pioneer Elite of some sort in my barn I'm thinking 5xx it has network and hdmi. It's no slouch for power or music, it's not class D I don't think. I also had a Marantz 6xxx I'm thinking a few years back. It had a pretty good reputation but I didn't think it was much honestly. My Harman 635 I had mopped the floor with it on every comparison. The 7xxx Marantz have a good rep too, I think it would be a sidaways move, even though sideways can be an improvement based on preference. Of course a large part of my opinion is speculation. Its potentially a good deal that is for sure if it's in good shape. If you needed a set for another room I'd say hard to beat for the price. For a guy that has only had a few PIoneers since the 70's I think they sound pretty good overall.
  19. I have a few 500 dollar iTunes cards left over from the last great deal. Can I just send the numbers?
  20. I can just add that when I first bought my rf7's I had a mid grade Onkyo avr. That combo sounded so bad I was gonna take them back. I bought an upper end Denon and a Parasound amp and everything changed for the better. It was obvious to even my sons and their friends which were in awe. They were previously uninpressed by the beautiful rf7's, as I was. Then I started a quest and it got better as I moved to better amp/pre combos. I was dragging them in two or three at a time to audition ,BK, Rotel, Outlaw,Adcom etc....I am a firm believer that I will never know just how good the 7's or any great horn can sound until you enter $5 digits of amps/pre's cause it always got better with certain units. Sure that sucks for me cause that ain't happening. But at about 3k pre and 2k amp I was satisfied with splendor.Sadly health tragedy struck and put an end to all that.I then realized what's really important, life....I used to really enjoy music on my am radio. I decided that the music itself was what I really loved . The delivery system is important too, but just what I can put together on a slimmer budget.
  21. It's a great deal....cherry vinyl.....ehh........
  22. I have had some speakers for decades that still perform as new, played crazy long hrs. The only speakers I ever ruined was by under powering them and blasting them at a party for hours. I've ruined a few sets that way in my youth. .I would say it's a true statement many more speakers are ruined by under powered amps. I don't think it's the low power but the overdriving amp long term. So another vote for sorta BS.
  23. Yep, bout 30 miles North of Louisville KY. That's just what I call it. For obvious, and not so obvious reasons...... It's up to 5 degrees.
