  1. yes, i remembered you had had yours remagnetized and gotten a 1.5 db benefit.
  2. magnets shouldn't need remagnetization unless they've been abused.
  3. so who's the builder? they are nice looking amps.
  4. No, I didn't try diffusers - I've got a window there so don't want to block it.
  5. i found that with the cornwalls in the corners, bass traps weren't helpful and sounded better with them removed. putting them in the corners also reduces the effect of first reflections (e.g. off the left wall for the left speaker). i thought that absorption on the sidewalls helped, but wasn't as significant as with "normal" speakers placed further out into the room.
  6. i can't speak for the other models, but the cornwall ivs are fantastic. their speed and dynamics are really impressive and the sound is comparable with speakers that cost multiples of the cornwalls.
  7. @Richard Clifton -- have you seen this thread? it's easy to find with a google search. shows all of the serial number coding history: as you can see in the thread, "y" is for 1983, often called a heresy 1.5 because the components used varied over the last few years of the first gen heresy. value varies across the country -- hbr mean heresy birch raw, birch is the least desirable -- probably worth $500-$800
  8. what caps are in the crossover? since you checked the connections in the crossover, you might need to reflow the solder.
  9. i would think #1 might sound better as it has a higher signal/noise ratio and higher dynamic range (i.e. these might create a "blacker" background).
  10. #1 should be louder since output is 4.4v rms vs 4.0v rms on #2 via XLR.
  11. I found the 30 to be very smooth sounding - I bet it's a great match for the IVs!
  12. diaphragms are what make the sound -- they vibrate -- so yes they do influence the sound.
  13. here's the crossover for the heresy ii. note that the tweeter is connected with reverse polarity. as you might guess, the red dot is positive (+).
  14. @DJLeBlanc77 -- i agree with the others -- the gain on the a31 should be all the way up and let the processor level match. bi-wiring is something you'll have to decide -- only do it if you think it sounds better. i wouldn't think it would make much difference in an ht set-up. for bi-amping, i think that seems like you'd be making things more complicated than they need to be, but use your ears to decide. in general, i think the a31 should be able to provide you all the juice you need.
  15. there is no kit for this -- the iii and iv are rather different. there is a kit to go from a ii to a iii -- maybe that is what you meant . . .
  16. vocals always coming from mids -- vocal frequency range tops out at around 3400 hz.
  17. wow . . . pages of off-topic posts. too bad . . . at least i know where to come if i want to discuss class d amps . . .
  18. and the heresys have that mid-century look themselves, so they're a good match!
  19. so outside of the flowery language on the web site (i agree its a bit much), here's my take on the discussion above. the design of the amplifier is a proven, not innovative design the amplifier measures well and operates within specs subjectively, i find: the amplifier looks great and appears to be very well built it's surprisingly heavy (at 27 lbs) -- it appears the transformers are hearty enough for the job photos of the guts show that it's thoughtfully manufactured it's certainly not cheap, but luxman has a great reputation for durability and longevity subjectively, regarding sound: i find the sound to be full, rich, and nuanced i was quite surprised at the quality of the bass, relative to my other experiences with lower powered tube amps soundstage is wide, reasonably deep, and places instruments well i found the sound much more refined than my most recent experiences with tubes (trials with some primaluna amps) it's a great match with my klipsch heresys -- sounds much better than the very nice solid state amps i had tried previously while i haven't had the amp a long time, at this point i would have to give it two thumbs up
  20. So what's your view of the measurements from JA at Stereophile? https://www.stereophile.com/content/luxman-sq-n150-integrated-amplifier-measurements
  21. not that i don't believe you, but how do you know they're nearly identical?
  22. @Pats3of4 -- nice looking '75 decorator heresys! i've also got some 75 heresys -- they came with the exact same components and crossovers. they even had the oil caps replaced with what sounds like what you have -- my caps were +- 10% and of unknown provenance, so i did order klipsch replacements from @JEM Performance. i also have those cool looking red/orange surrounds on my woofers!
  23. oh, i didn't realize that this site had become a marketing strategies sight . . . i thought we discussed how things sounded. regarding the quality of the amp, you know as well as anyone that the only way to make fully informed comments is to listen to it. have you done that? it doesn't appear so . . .
  24. you were simply dropping irrelevant info into this thread. if you got a beef with marketing efforts in the industry, you should create a new thread. did you add a similar comment to the primaluna threads? you know much more about design than i do, but i think it's safe to say that there hasn't been much evolution in the design of tube amps in a long time.
