  1. My Fisher receiver recently went south and being the impatient sort I ordered a PA3s class d amp to tide me over 'til I can get around to fixing it. Damn. I am hearing things in music I've been listening to for decades never heard before. My speakers are entry level Klipsch but have stepped up to play very well with the Topping. I'm sitting here listening to Carlos Santana's soaring guitar and percussion with a depth and clarity I thought I'd never be able to afford. Complex music is accessible to my aged and abused ears. I am more than impressed. Honestly the speakers have impressed me as well. I have always enjoyed them but this is a whole new level. Now to get those Heresys...
  2. Klipsch R-610f. According to Klipsch 94dB@2.8V. I cannot afford to hang with you guys I got Harleys to feed and care for.
  3. After seeing the results of my readings I tested the dB with my iPhone and the Niosh app. The tone at normal level reads 76 dB and loud reads 96 dB from my listening position. That sound right for 250MW? I know it's not a calibrated measurement but it shouldn't be that far off.
  4. Not like this is something new. We did it intentionally in 2009.
  5. Damn. Thought the readings were kinda low. It's a Topping PA3s I just got through a pair of Klipsch R-610f speakers. The normal was at 70-75 dB with a NIOSH app on the iPhone. Didn't bother to check the loud level 'cause the neighbor works swing shift and I think he's on graveyard this week. The numbers surprise me. It's not like I listen at low volumes intentionally just where I can discern the different sounds. I do like it loud sometimes but try to be a good neighbor.
  6. OK finally got some good steady numbers. Normal level is .05 VAC and LOUD is .49 VAC. Ended up taking some banana plugs and speaker wire and making a test lead that just plugged into the amp and multimeter. Worked great.
  7. Yes it's the Chesky version and that's the only one as far as I know. One of my favorites for listening when a change is made. From what I read they used a single mic. No matter it's a great album.
  8. Thanks. I'll look into them.
  9. Room is an oddball about 12'X15' with furniture paneled walls hardwood floors and a big open space on the left into the dining room. I sit here listening to Little Feat's Dixie Chicken and the bass is clean clear and snappy. Earlier was listening to Macy Gray's Stripped which was recorded in a church in Brooklyn NY with a single microphone. Both string and electric bass. Very clean and spacious. Thanks for that I think you may be correct. Even though the speakers are entry level they're still Klipsch and it shows when I listen to a good recording. After getting the class d amp I spent some time with a set up record redoing speaker location yesterday and this morning. It did change a bit from where it was. Thanks everyone for the feedback. By all means speak up if you've something to say on the matter. My mind's never really made up if ya know what I mean.
  10. Sub do I need? Don't care for bloated muddy thumping bass. Listen to everything 'cept rap/hiphop,pop and country. Mostly vintage rock and jazz. System is as follows/Topping PA3s/Schiit Modi 3+/Fluance RT-80/Klipsch R620f. no experience with subs and don't want to spend a lot to find out what I have is good for me. Was looking at a Monoprice 12 inch 150 watt sub. Thing is the specs say it goes to 50Hz and the 610 to 45 Hz. Does this matter? I'd appreciate any clarification. Thanks. Monoprice Sub
  11. Yeah I'm sure I'll be picking up some new stuff to make it 2 systems.
  12. Since the Fisher crapped out I bought a class d amp for short term use. Turns out it may end up a little more than that 'cause it sounds great. So I'll repair the Fisher and have 1 1/3 systems.
  13. Nah it's a Blue Point I got from Snap-on and has 20VAC readout. The ground lead is intermittent. Led a rough life.
  14. I'm having trouble with meters. Damn. Need to get now test leads for the good one. Oh well.
  15. I tried tonight with a small Radio Shack autoranging meter but it bounced all over the place. I'll bring home my good meter from work tomorrow.
  16. How do I take this measurement? Know how to use a multimeter but this measurement has me kind of baffled. I'm curious how much my new Topping PA3s is putting to the speakers at my listening levels.
  17. I guess I could sell the car. Damn sure ain't selling the Harley.
  18. When I first started looking at Klipsch seeing what the 40 year old ones bring used I knew I had found what I sought. Now my budget doesn't allow me a new pair of LaScala or Klipschorns but if it did I'd buy them at retail. After listening and seeing which one I preferred of course.
  19. is it worth it to use a streaming device or just stick with my Mac. The only thing I see is resolution peaks at 24/96 with the computer. Not sure my battered hearing would notice the difference.

    What I Got Today!

Topping PA3s arrived today. Surprised how good it sounds.
  21. I'd have to spend a couple hundred thousand on a house to fit them first. However if I could...
