  1. He's got so many speakers he can't even remember what he owns. We should all be so fortunate!
  2. Hi Sancho, Thanks for the feedback. We are just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Wondering why being unfinished makes them desirable? Terri Actually most of this model was sold unfinished as Birch, Raw. Many of those have been finished in a variety of finishes (and a wide variety of quality of craftsmanship also). Some of the older ones that have not been cared for so well have a greyish appearance to the birch, which can make it a difficult finishing job. Ones like yours that appear to have been immaculately cared for, should bring top dollar. Please though, a few more clear photos of the tops of both units and of the sides as well if you have time. And you could have played the music QUITE LOUD, because these are some of the most efficient loudspeakers on the planet. What music did your dad listen to?
  3. Terri, thank you for joining us and terribly sorry for the loss of your father. Many of us have travelled great distances and met some truly remarkable people in our search for our own personal audio nirvanas, as you father must have had in his music room. We also have music rooms. To find a set that has been loved as yours have, untouched, never moved or abused, is somewhat unique, as are the full height grilles (something I've never seen on a LS, and I've seen quite a few). I will PM you my thoughts regarding value. Please, though, if anyone in the family remotely has any use for them in the future, hang on to them. They don't age hardly at all. True we upgrade around here from time to time, but I enjoy my Klipschorns and LaScalas (that were each like yours, from a one-owner home), nearly bone stock. I will share this with you. If one of us is allowed to purchase them, tell them something of your father's musical tastes. I bought my Klipschorns from a symphony cellist and still get a thrill when I play some LP's of his favorite music through them. We revel in a bit of history around these parts. Michael
  4. There are several iterations of the 8" driver found in Klipsch pro products. The ones in later cinema and pro models feature a much more stout voice coil and former KPT8001, KP172 etc. Compared to the early small stage monitors KSM8 it's a bit of different beast. I'd imagine the networks changed over time. At one Hope Pilgrimage Roy Delgado told us about searching for/designing a heavier woofer for these speakers prior to going into production on the VBAT (dual horn) KPT models.
  5. Are you sure it's oak? FO could be Fir, Oiled although I'm not sure why they'd bother. These must have been special made for a church, as many of these smaller speakers like Heresy were used in houses of worship or schools.
  6. looks gone. Good. Hope one of us got them!
  7. No, there was a TH version of a Heresy, early surround speaker only had the woofer and mid. This was before the X-curve crossover, so not sure the frequency response of the speaker. I'd imagine PWK just let the mid driver run out and fall off naturally. Other Heresy sized pro boxes include HIP, HI, dang there was another one I owned one of and I forget the name now HP-1 maybe.
  8. You had me at 4 Danley horns.
  9. hope one of us gets them. Amazing price. Why does this never happen to me?
  10. Looks dry, a bit of Watco could take care of that, I'd be concerned about mold/mildew though. Check for delamination of the ply in the base and inside the ports.
  11. modern khorns have notches cut out of the bass bins to allow for baseboards. They've had notches since at least 1972. My problem is I have baseboard radiant heat which is much larger, so the grilles have had to go.
  12. I knew they were going to a good home when you told me you were resurrecting another pair from parts. Nice to meet you Mark. Enjoy those, I nearly kept them as mains to a KSB1.1/KSC-C1 system, but would probably never build up such a system, there's room for only so many 5.1's in a home. Please post pictures of your cabinetry rebuild, you sound like you know your way around a wood shop.
  13. I definitely want to get in contact with this dude. We'd have fun.
  14. 'Box' for VOTT kinda implies no drivers, possibly no networks. Parts for those aren't inexpensive. You could put any old 15" and horn driver and have a box that made noise for a band, but a proper audiophile would want the correct parts in there.
  15. Altec Voice of the Theater, probably a A7-8 or A7-500 box. Very worthy of restoration. I have a pair of same, boxes only, for sale if someone wants to do a LCR of them.
  16. Altec is A-7 model. I do have 500 horns here but not selling those currently. So these cabinets could be complete to be A7-8 or A7-500 , depending on the various horn/driver/network combinations. As these were hung in a permanent PA install cluster (no mounting hardware ever attached, they were flown in a catwalk rigging), they would have been bi-amped and therefore no crossover networks installed, there is blank panel where you would install it. Dahlquist M904 is a walnut veneer 10" two way dome tweeter bass reflex cabinet. About the size of a Quartet, or taller/thinner Heresy. After this weekend clears some stuff out, I'll drag more into the shop for photos. The Dahlquist sat on top of my first Cornwalls, and as as speakers 'B' I used them for jazz listening. THen they sat horizontally on a shelf above my desk (which was fine as port is in the front and dome tweeter disperses evenly). Cabinets nearly perfect as far as I can recall. They've been in boxes in a closet since I moved to this home 10 years ago. There are other models M908 that were more popular you can probably find some specs. Bought new from Ovation Electronics Indianapolis.
  17. Let me get some stuff out of the shop so I can pull them out for photos guys. Will also photo the JBL 18" bins and horns for y'all. My gf is going to be hopping mad, I'm spending my weekend working and with a few of you speaker guys. But she got flowers, chocolate and a groovy card at her workplace the other day, so I'll probably be ok. This stuff is going going going... Oh, and I have BOTH the Khorns and Jubilees operational in the gallery room now. So there's a LOT to listen to! So what are these stock Jubilees worth to you guys? Keep in mind that they've only been set up once, very low hours, and I have all the original boxes for safe transport... but I'm not sure I can part with them.. damn I have some sweet systems here.. Your buddy, Michael
  18. thost BT77's are GREAT, I found the product and we used to refer people to them all the time when I was in Klipsch Tech Support! Very heavy duty!
  19. I just want to be clear that I am not a moderator on this forum, therefore am not responsible for anything said by anyone, including myself.
  20. oh so just the double woofer bins with mids/highs added? Yes you'd be ok. Individual woofers should be 8 ohms in parallel that's a 4 ohm load which you'd be safe with. i'd thought you were adding them to the complete Cornscala setup which would be murder.
  21. http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/av/english/AFR/R8.pdf?_ga=1.32039038.136102489.1423646037 see page 5. When two pairs are connected, suggested that they be 8 ohms each. You're attempting to push way too many woofers with far too little power.
