Tangent 400 - What I can do to make them better?
tigerwoodKhorns replied to konrad911's topic in Technical/Restorations
I like seeing someone half way around the world enjoying these. Post over at AudioKarma and include pics of your progress. The Heresy has a different sized cabinet, correct? If so a no go on that. -

Probably just needed a laser.

Sounds about right. I think I paid $400 or $500 in 1989 for the player. Had to save up to get it.

I have a Denon DCD 1400 CD player that I bought new in 1989. I always figured that I would use the digital out but keep it because it is built like a tank and I have had it so long. I did some research on it and in some forums they were saying how good it was. I put it in my system and yes, this 34 year old CD player sounds quite good with its internal DACs. Never did any comparisons. I also recently had to repair a preamp and swapped in a Benchmark DAC PRE for a short time in an office system. It caught my attention that it sounded good, but again, no critical listening. Maybe just different, I don't know. I any event, these are both older and sound very good.

Klipschorn Bad Review - ???
tigerwoodKhorns replied to tigerwoodKhorns's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Its OK to not like a speaker, but his setup is ridiculous. What speaker will sound good 3" from a side wall, especially one with a bass exit there, and he is complaining that they do not mesh together well. The really funny thing is the multiple hour long videos. Something isn't quite right based on this obsessive behavior. Always weird to see this. -
72 cents so not nearly as bad as it looks. These look to be a good deal if one is in the market for a new pair of these. They look way too big for that room.

Three hours of commentary on this. Wow. He should spend the time hanging drywall instead. -
Klipsch Chorus II Speakers $1,700 Very Minty, Casco, MI *SOLD*
tigerwoodKhorns replied to John Chi-town's topic in Alerts!
I do not sell speakers or equipment anymore. I just collect. I might sell a few things, but there are too many things that I have sold only to buy again. I spend so much time trying to make things perfect, if I sell them then it is a profit making proposition and I can make more than $10 an hour elsewhere ($10 because it takes so much time to do things right). Storage is fine. These are not like cars. You can store them, pull them out many years later and use them. Electrolytic caps are the only real concern if you wait decades. -
Klipschorn Bad Review - ???

Look at the side adjacent top the wall, like 3" from the wall blocking the exit of the bass bins. Then he says that the bass does not integrate. With enclosed backs you can pull them out, but I think that they will still lose the lower octaves as you need a big bass horn (the false corners are four feet, but that probably is not a requirement as it is exactly one half of a sheet of wood). I only watched a minute or two, but I thought that he lived in an apocalypse bunker from the looks of the back wall. But look at the furniture and other equipment. This does not look like a grimy cave. I think he might have done that to the back wall on purpose as some sort of audiophile treatment. Maybe from some witch doctor website where they charge $300 for an outlet. -
Look at this. Over an hour. I made it through a minute or two. He says they do not integrate well but I think, maybe I am wrong, that he might have some setup issues... Unfortunately anyone with an internet connection can be a 'reviewer'

La Scala’s Stereophile April 2023 review
tigerwoodKhorns replied to Ponch0069's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Always interesting to see someone with a chip on their shoulder trolling for a fight with insults from your first post. Unfortunately others here have fed the troll. There is no winning when the only goal is to start a fight. Lock this thread and show the troll the door. He can take his anger elsewhere. EDIT - others beat me too it while I was posting. Good job guys! -
Something new versus something old advice?
tigerwoodKhorns replied to dan.derby's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I was going to suggest RP 600M's based on Steve Guttenberg. I swap speakers around and Fortes are almost the smallest that I have (L100s are smaller). I use a dolly for the bigger speakers, will that work? -

Enclosing Klipschorn backs (kind of) like Jubilees
tigerwoodKhorns replied to dug's topic in Technical/Restorations
K Horns have a void on each side to complete the triangle. I have some cabs that have this removed. I have considered following the sides without extending the triangle when I build these. Roy had stated when developing the Jubilee that when he brought the sides in from the wall, they went up higher. I am sure that there is a lot more to it than that and I hope that I am stating the correctly. The problem will be that they likely still need to be corner loaded to dig deed, in which case they should follow the wall. -
Strengthening La Scala cabinet?

Please post pictures of the speakers before you started taking off all of the hacks. We need entertainment! -
@edzu1234 Kevin Deal said that he advises customers to just run the tubes that came with the Prima Luina as they are very good tubes. And he can easily sell more tubes if he gave other advice. So I think that you should start five threads and buy as many tubes as possible in the next week or so. 😈 Seriously, of course you are excited, but just try your amp for a little while.

I have a nice set of Upscale Audio KT150s if you are interested. I have recent testing on them and they are like new. This will be cheaper than the Gold Lions or similar tubes. As far as 'not designed to use the power of the tube - this is a good thing, run them easy and let them last a very long time. I am assuming that your Prime Luna amp can run these.
