Not sure about that... As far as placement and room acoustics go... I fully agree with you. My room absolutely sucks. I've had subs in several different locations and stillg et next to nothing from them. My room eats bass like it's going out of style. However, if you leave my room and walk all the way down the hall and go into the bathroom, the bass is very loud. I am also very limited on space, so I really don't have many options for placement. So I just have to be happy with what I get... ---------------- TPG, my suggestion would be to put your subs in your bathroom, preferably under the tub for the relaxation vibes. Then they would sound great in your listening room!! Weird isn't it, in my hallway the lascala's sound the best on piano? Randy
  2. AAACK,,no not the SS again. LOL Yes, the manufacturer is the one to talk to. Sorry. You did check the power to the amp? So the problem is not your power strips.
  3. Being the expert speaker builder from New Burlington I would assume that the clarity of midrange, highs, and lows would be improved in that order. The bass rumbling around in there and vibrating the panels would put out their own sound while perhaps by vibrating the front panel add even more distortion to the mid and high driver.Take all this with a large grain of salt, preferably sea salt. The suggestion to also brace the panels, especially the larger ones, in my opinion would also help to keep things clear. Good luck, Randy
  4. Not being familiar with your amp all I can advise to do is unplug it and open it up to find the fuse that blew. Make sure you only put one hand in there at a time and don't be touchin' anything else besides the fuse,IMPORTANT. That said you'd probably be best off finding a technician to look it over. Sometimes it seems to me that one or more of my tubes glows a little more than the other but if your tube did flash either it or a resistor or capacitor has given up the ghost. Do you know of anyone in your area you can trust to look at it? If not maybe one of the more tech guys here can help you,,Sorry for your troubles,Randy
  5. I was thinking of your quest for a grill cloth color and thought maybe you could purchase some kraftpaper in assorted hues and cut out blanks so you and your wife can look at them at your leisure and pic one you both could live with. If you can't find the exact color paper you could try and find some spraypaint that is the "right" color and spraypaint the kraftpaper. Man they are great looking speakers! If they sound as good as they look, WOW! Randy
  6. And they are different on each amp to be a mirrowed pair. Notice the power switches also.Bookends. R
  7. F, if your equipment is in good shape maybe your room is having a negative effect on the musical reproduction. Speaker placement is important too. If you could describe your room and placement of speakers someone with more knowledge than I could maybe help you out here. Randy I thought as much . Although I can't help but shake the feeling that I may be doing something wrong. (Or at least my equipment is!) There seems to be no punch in live recordings. And I just can't seem to get an image of the music at all... Does this get better with tubes? -F ----------------
  8. About the newer is better. Pick a player that sounds good to you and just listen to the music. There will always be something that might do one thing or more better and your player will always(probably) always do something better than the newer or more expensive player. Don't get in a tizzy. We all need to listen more and fret less. Not fretless, I was never good enough to play one of those.Well actually never tried. If you really like the tubed Jolida for goodness sakes buy it and tell us how it sounds so we can wish we had one too! Hope you buy it, I would like to upgrade soon myself and any info is good, been leaning toward the AH! but who knows what will come up before I get my sheeite together. Have fun. Who's going to the guitar show in Columbus this Sunday.....
  9. Crank it up, don't listen the naysayers. What are we girliemen or real stereo buffs? What, are you talking to me? Speak up. On the serious side I didn't think KG4's would get that loud. Are you sure you are using the right scale? Give more info please. Randy
  10. What they said, safety glasses! Good tip marvel! Randy
  11. As this is off topic I am going to ask a question here. If it is offensive to anyone I apologize now. Where is the grief for the over 100,000 Iraq citizens who've died? A man made death is not worthy of our sympathy? A God's wrath (pic one)is? I feel for the victims of both of these tragedies. Randy
  12. I believe in the real world where most of us reside you would not want bare wire that close to each other. That is an accident waiting to happen. It looks like if a strong puff of air hit those they'd move. Why the chance? We have visitors here and 2 cats, not a chance. But did I take the bait here? The Cat5 wire looks interesting but I'd prefer a little simpler type. If you're the do it yourselfer look up some more types of DIY wires and build a half dozen and make up your own mind. I don't think you will find that you need to spend 100 dollars to get good sound, probably more like 10. IMO Good luck,, Randy
  13. I don't believe anyone said to biwire. If it were me I'd just buy and install a decent grade of speaker wire and forget it. You will not be able to tell any differance in biwireing your speakers.IMHO Happy listening! Randy
  14. A different ear. Edit: I just noticed the date is out of whack on the camera, this was friday not 2 years ago

You drink Sierra Nevada in Cincy? Whaddaya know! ---------------- Here's a better shot of my ear. We had some good beer here friday that's for sure. Have you tried any Great Lakes Brewery beers? I really like their Edmond Fitzgerald Porter, Dan also brought over some porter called Dog Humping Leg or something, so may legs so little time is the logo on the bottle. Brewed by Dead Dog or something, really good. The ponykeg up the street has started stocking some good microbrews in their beer cave including some Sierra's. Finally! I take it you like a good beer now and then? Good for you. Did you find a guitar yet?
  16. Here's Dan with the Seagull I believe Nope, he's got mine and that's me with my back to the camera with the Seagull, not a good pic of the Seagull, sorry
  17. Just helped a friend purchace a used seagull for 100 dollars from another friend. He was needing a good sounding beater becaouse his young son is getting interested in the noise dad's making and wants to help! The seagull is really nice I don't think you could go wrong here. I play a Taylor 410 that was purchased used and really like the playability and sound. It replaced my Gibson SJ-deluxe that was stolen from me when I lived in an apartment. I agree that a used instrument in good condition is the best bargain that you could find and the guitar would already be seasoned.IMO I have played Yamaha's that were very nice. Had an Epiphone that wouldn't stay in tune. Played Ovations that were very nice. Am impressed by some Alverez guitars. Hope you find one that your Daughter likes. Randy
  18. My two cents worth: In my room, in my system Lascala's kicked the K-horns patootie. I spent a lot of time on the K's and didn't want that to happen but it did and it made me sick but it happened. My room sucks and there is only one place for the speakers and that is the problem. The corners are ok but the speakers are too close and the listening space too far away. Ah well, when I move there will be a better listening envirement. Won't buy the house unless. By the way, the K's are in a friends house now and they sound fantastic! Damnit! Randy

Tim (getting more and more sarcastic). (better than cynical) Best inspiration of humour has always been misery, accidents and stupidity. ---------------- Hey Tim, glad to see you're not too down, any luck on finding the b8astard?Hope you have a great holiday season, randy
  20. Let me be the first to congratulate you! Good deal, my youngest son has a set that he purchased from his older brother years ago, he loves them. I'm in Cincinnati and have just started going to second hand stores and purchasing albums and cd's. Been keeping an eye out for hardware bargains but nothing yet, you give me hope. Enjoy your find. Randy
  21. Tim, sorry to hear about your misfortune. It's a damn shame there are people who have no qualms about screwing others. Best of luck in getting your money back or at least finding out who did this and getting them busted. Randy
  22. ---------------- On 12/4/2004 6:02:22 AM Timmikid wrote: Hi guys, some of you may have noticed (because I said so) that I was the second highest bidder on eBay for a nice pair of mc 30's. Now it appears that the highest bidder is a fake and the seller offered them to me. My highest bid (a stunning $1859.99) will get them to Terry's at Audio Refurbishers insured! I'm very happy that it appears that I have won the items anyway, even though it's more money than I thought they would end up to be. One of my questions is: Is this second chance offering normal and safe? The seller seems trustworthy. Any comments? I take it that Terry knows what he is doing, but anyone have any suggestions on which instructions I should give him. I would prefer NOS to those Sovteks and I guess I can use my 6L6's that are in the 272 I got from Craig for the time being until I find worthy replacement. Any input welcome and have a great weekend, Tim. ---------------- Hi Timmikid, I'd be real suspicious about the seller. Who's to say it wasn't him or a friend of his who drove the price up. It happens all the time at auctions, not a nice thing to think about but true. If nothing else I'd report this to ebay even if you are going to stay with the deal. Not saying Terry did anything wrong, I don't know him. Best of luck, Randy
  23. Hi Again! What's the exchange rate for Canadian to American dollars? I'm thinking that 1600 = around 1200 american??? That would be a good deal if in fact they are mint. I own a pair of 86 Lascala's and am happy with them. There are opinions on whether or not these have the best sounding crossovers or not but that is pretty nitt picky.
  24. Fauzi,I may have missed something here so forgive me but I need to ask why you have a woman avatar? I thought you were a lady then you mentioned your wife. Was this inadvertant or a representation of your wife? Just having fun, Randy
