ilsinc
O.K. as you can see by the number of my posts I'm new to this passion. I've started assembling a system based on recommendations from this forum. So far I have '83 KBWO Klipschorns and a 1966 Mcintosh MC-240. I'll probably be adding a MX-110 as well. Can anybody recommend a CD player that might go well (that is the "look") with this system? Also maybe a vintage turntable? Thanks in advance. jhoak
I'm not real sure of the "look" aspect but you'll be hard pressed to do any better sound wise for the money than http://emotiva.com/erc1.shtm I have one that feeds my La Scalas and the sound that comes out is wonderful. Highly recommended.
Tarheel
Jolida 100 CDP.....find one on audiogon for $500....roll in a couple of Bugle Boy 12AX7s and live happily ever after.
winchester21
You will find a few dissenting opinions but the Jolida is pretty much the slam dunk CD player on this forum for tubes and Heritage. Cambridge has some recently discontinued models- I have one my self- for around 350- they are the deals in the Bang for the buck dept. For my money camp out on AG and grab a used Jolida when one comes up arounde 600.000 used- 1000 new- if you want to buy new- PM me- I know a few dealers that discount them. With the jolida you can roll tubes and change the sound to suit you- a no brainer IMHO for anything under 2500.

ilsinc
Thanks for the tips. Used I think would be fine. I'll keep checking Audiogon 'till I find a Jolida.
jamesV
Also maybe a vintage turntable? While you are searching AudioGon look for a Thorens TT. James
ilsinc
I looked on Audiogon and saw only Thorens TD, and many models. Does one or two stand out as "the" model to get?
winchester21
124- seems to be the benchmark for great used Thorens stuff.
ilsinc
Two on Audiogon right now. Asking $6600 and $9000. Ouch. Time for patience and perseverance in the hunt.
hklinker
Two on Audiogon right now. Asking $6600 and $9000. Ouch. Time for patience and perseverance in the hunt. There are always a couple of TD124's on ebay. You can find them in rought shape for about $500-$600, but nice one's with Ortofon arms and plinths go for $2000 to $4000. They are a joy to restore and are totally mechanical so do not be afraid to get one that needs work. I use a Shure SME 3009 Series II arm and Dynavector MC cartridge on mine. Guy Landau
I recommend Revox B-126 or B-226. They sound pretty amazing with klipsch ( especially after non oversampling mod ) You can try and find a Bogen B-62 turntable. I'm using one with my Klipsch (in a birch plywood plinth) and it is as good or better than a Garrard 301.
jcmusic
I have the Ah Njoe Tjoeb 4000 with upsampler, can't really go wrong with it!!! About $600-800 used or a little over $1000 new. Great sounding CDP. Jay
joshnich
Rega Apollo is a wonderful CDP. One of the best I have heard. In regards to the Thorens TD 124. If youre interested fire me an email and we should be able to work something out. Josh

You can also check out the little brother TD 160. Here is a great site if you do end up with a Thorens TT. The Analog Dept. James
gartenman
VPI Scout!! I've had a Thorens 165 and still own a Garrard 301 and the VPI kills them both!!
oscarsear
I had a Jolida CD and replaced it. Again a matter of getting better tubes. The stock tubes are not the best tubes. Went with Sylvanias NOS for improvement. I wanted SACD so I ended up with a SONY ES-777. I'd love to get an Accuphase digital source. Their new 730 is supposed to be the bomb and it costs like one, too.
kaiser SET say
ilsinc, I have a good buddy in Atlanta who just upgraded from the Planet to the Apollo and he's asking $395.00 for his Planet.
