Jubilee's in Jacksonville are now live...

Finally got the move done and things a bit organized. Took several weeks for the phone company to get my internet line installed (still having some issues, no email).

My gameplan moving into this apartment was to use the living room/dining room as ONE room (no dividers) and set the Jubilee's up on the wall just like I did at home. Then....a moment of brilliance hit me.

I can set the MWM's up on the front corners, LaScala in the center (using a K510) and put the Jubilee's in the rear. Since the wife isn't here, I won't have to listen to her comments about it....and I can live with it. All I need to do is buy two more 402's and a single 510. (I might add that I've recently ordered a pair of TAD's)

Moving things in, the first MWM went into the corner. Man....those things are big and really big when you bring them indoors. Undaunted....the first one was set in approximate place and we carried the second one in. Upon laying the second one down....I had a bad revelation.

I haven't measured any dimensions but let's just say that the MWM's are seven feet wide. Times two gives you 14'. Let's then say that my width is 13'. Not only do I not have enough width to put the LaScala between the MWM's, the MWM's themslves are wider than the room, disallowing me to set them up as I really wanted. (slighly out of corners facing more forward, straight into the room)

So.... the MWM's failed and were tossed into the 2'nd bedroom for storage. the front wall is now Jubilee's with a empty cabinet/LaScala between them.

Oh... and to keep priorities... the kitchen has two doors (openings) into it. One into the dining room and one into a hallway. The doorway from the dining room is now fully blocked by one Jube. I can only get into kitchen from hallway. Fortunately, I don't have a dining room table in the traditional sense. Actually, this room looks rather spacious given the size of the pieces in here. Can't find my camera or I'd post a pic. Might buy another camera if mine doesn't show up.

When the Directv guys came in, I had Toto, 25th anninversary playing. Guy was probably in his late 50's. Asked who the band was saying they were good songs. Said the picture was good too (BR disk).

He then went on to say that he had never heard that nice of sound coming from a tv...

[^o)]

Cutting to the chase... I don't think he even recognized the behemoths sitting next to the tv as speakers. After pointing out some things, he later went over and actually stuck his head inside the 402, telling his buddy "yep.... this is where the sound is coming from"

I think that we need a permanent thread on the "recognition of Jubilees and MWMs at home by casual bystanders".

I've had but one person (one of two guys that brought my "Relax the Back" chairs) that instantly recognized the Jubs and commented on them. Of course, he mentioned that he'd installed chairs at one of Willie Nelson's places, among several others that had $100K+ AV rooms. He also used to be a roadie for some major bands...

Good to hear that the Jubs are live. It's "Home, Sweet Home" again, isn't it?

Glad to hear your getting moved in, thought that's where you had been lately, busy. Remember your not in the country with no neighbors so don't give the neighbors a heart attack with 120 db of Marie Osmond. [:o]

Hope your doing well, when do you to start work? [8-|]

Can you put the MWM's on their side standing vertically?

Good point DrWho

Why not put that Jubilee on casters and attach it to the door somehow, so you could swing the door open? It would be like the hidden door behind the bookcase in a mystery or horror movie.

The same thing happens with Belles, and sometimes with La Scalas. It's always amusing, especially when you ask a visitor to find your new Belles, and he gives up after a good look around the room.

You guys are killing me

Chris: I think that we need a permanent thread on the "recognition of Jubilees and MWMs at home by casual bystanders".
Indeed

Who: Can you put the MWM's on their side standing vertically?
I suppose I could... setting the 402's on top creates a bit of a challange though.

Mark: Let us know when the police come to visit?
Heh... I thought of you while setting things up... you might get upset with me. I have the gains on my dbx amp (4-channel amp) set on about the second mark on the knob (second from off, not second from full) When I moved in, I told the manager of the place that if I ever have anyone make a comment about any noise... just to let me know. I'd turn things down immediately and I don't want to tick anyone off. He said all was well since I was going to be living next door to HIM and he's never been bothered by anyones stereo.... It might be worth mentioning that he's still clueless. Maybe I should do the 3:30 am "Dark Side of the Moon Chimes" prank on him (the entire complex) that I did my freshman year...

Bob: Where did you finally decide to settle, what part of Jacksonville
(crud... I'm forgetting some names of roads)... I am staying near Phillips Hwy & "X" road (Beachwood?/Belmont?) NOT the Beach Avenue. My work is located at Deerwood and this road that I forget the name of is about 3-4 miles south of where JBT (BJT? road) crosses Southland (?). Heh... as you can see, it might be a wonder onto itself that I can even find my way home!

Dtel: Remember your not in the country with no neighbors so don't give the neighbors a heart attack with 120 db of Marie Osmond.
Kiss my K69! lol [;)] I started work on the 11'th and will be blunt.... I am VERY impressed with the systems & backoffice technology I'm seeing. I don't know that I've ever been exposed to this vast amount of information at my fingertips in 24 years. Virtually every person I've met has been very polite & very nice. Training is for 3-4 weeks and I will actually start "working" on the first of September.

Mark: Lay the MWMs down on their backs so they point at the apt. upstairs:
One of my criteria for an apartment was close to work (about 6 miles) and ground level. I did NOT want anything that was upstairs/downstairs nor even a half flight either way. This was the only place that fit all my criteria and that was one of the first ones. Nobody above me either. These are all single level units. In a way, much more like a condo layout.

Pat: Why not put that Jubilee on casters and attach it to the door somehow, so you could swing the door open?
Layout of room won't let me do that unless I want the front of the Jublee smashing into either the tv or wall (depending on swing). Great idea thoug, keep them coming! If I look into that, would 8" lag bolt be appropriate?

Stew: invest in a sledge hammer and knock out any walls that are in the way
Uh-huh... and when my head pokes into the bedroom of the manager.... well....uh.... never mind [:$]

Favog: Tossed whatever....
I'm still waiting on a box of Greaters to be tossed down my way! Now that I'm settled.... I've been debating it. (no Krogers here)

Good one, but you should probably wait until the early morning of the day you're moving out to do it.

Since other posters are already talking about altering walls, if you moved the door's hinges to the other side to reverse the swing direction, would that solve the problem? As for the fasteners, three-inch wood screws would probably suffice, but it would be better to mount the speaker on a little cart and secure the cart to the door. Since you'd be pulling/pushing on the middle of the door, while the drag was on the bottom of the door, you might need four or five hinges to keep it from pulling out of shape over time.

See, we're keeping the fantasies sort of realistic...

wouldn't that create a backwards masking effect on the music? oh that stairways not going to Heaven.

Hey, what if you overlapped the MCMs, like a deck of cards? They're stacked pairs, aren't they?

You know, left bottom one on the floor, right bottom one high enough so its left edge rests on the top of the left one, next left one one step higher, and the other right one a step above that. You'd need some sort of small risers to support them, but It might even look sort of artsy.

Actually.....what if the center lascala was placed first, and then the MWM's on either side were angled to rest on top of the lascala?
