finallygotmyheresies
I've got a box of cat-5 and I thought about doing that just for giggles. Right now I am using some nice 12 ga extension cord. Speaker wire can be DIY'd sooooooo cheap.

JJkizak
OK. What's the deal with the cat-5 stuff? How does it impedance match? What is the characteristic impedance of the cat-5 stuff? JJK
Dingman
Hmm, I'm also curious about the Cat-5. I have about 500' of it sitting around. I have some 6e too, I think. But going from 14 ga to, what 24 or 26 ga? I'm not sure about that... (maybe twisting the pairs into 2 groups of 4?) I guess that wouldn't be bad - solder the ends. Ill let the designer of these chime in! Im not sure if its placebo, but I truly doubt ..from lampcord to this there was a improvement in immaging..BUT who knows. Invidiosulus
My heresy things are run with cat 5 wires. I didn't bother with the super noise canceling braid. I think I did a single run to each speaker, all the solids and all the stripes grouped together. The sound is great.
runninshine
A guy I was talking to last week told me I needed to look into low voltage 12G wire for my stuff. The Cat 5 also sounds interesting.
pzannucci
If you use CAT-5, use plenum. The teflon is a much better dielectric than the PVC
Cut-Throat
Yup, without cables, speakers sound completely lifeless.
Guest David H
I built the same wire, got the directions front TNT Audio, in my testing I thought they offered better detail than my standard cable, however once I switched back I realized the detail was the result of weak bass. My conclusion from the project was cables could be used for tuning, however that doesn't make one cable better than the other. BTW, nice job on the cables. Mr. Slate
Silly stuff... See PWK's findings on Speaker Wire in the Dope From Hope Vol 17, No. 1, March, 1978. For the record, I am running 14ga zip cord, always have.
