Heritage_Head
Ready to invest in some acoustic panels. Would love some links and some ideas on where to buy them and how many to buy. I don’t want to pack the room full but don’t want to skimp on to little.

CECAA850
Here's another that a client of mine used for his piano room: GIK Acoustics That's where I got mine as well. Highly recomended and reasonably priced. I believe they're made in Georgia.

USNRET
Thanks, for the reminder that I have what's left of a roll of Guilfords of Maine cloth leftover from my panel build, I bought way too much. I need to measure the yardage and do something with it
Greg Oshiro
The "industry standard" panel material is Owens-Corning 703 fiberglass board, 3 pounds per cubic foot (pcf). The edges are hardened with resin and the panel is covered in fabric that lets the fiberglass do most of the LF absorbtion. I've seen 703 on ebay. Maybe roll your own? --Greg
Moderators Youthman Posted February 2, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 2, 2012 I bought way too much. I need to measure the yardage and do something with it If you decide to sell it, I might be interested. Who knows, it might motivate me to get mine built if I actually bought some fabric. The Dude
Parts express had some panels on sale, I don't how good they are but for the price they could be all rights.
The Dude
Just out of curiosity on the diy note, I always thought that the panels had to have 2 inches of space be hind them to trap the air to work properly. Nick

Nick It's my understanding that the absorption vs. frequency characteristics depend on the space behind the panel. IIRC greater space behind the panel improves LF absorption. So I think the spacing will depend on what frequencies we intend to absorb.
Heritage_Head
What are the best places to put panels normally? I have read about using a mirror to find the reflected spots. But was wondering if there were some basic tips for best results. I have seen a lot of people put some directly behind the speakers. Is there and advantage to this? While I think the pre-made stuff is too expensive, the guy who does the realtraps stuff seems pretty knowledgeable but also down to earth. Check realtraps.com in the how to section. Heritage_Head
Got the panels last night and was able to get them up this morning. Haven’t had a chance to listen much yet so impressions will come later. They are way bigger than I thought they would be (24x48)
