Cornman
Any one have experience with this? I am installing new carpet next week & I could reduce my length about 50% ( currently 50ft runs). Does the flat wire work as well as 12guage speaker wire? Cornman
Guest " "
I've used dozens of rolls of this stuff. By guage, it's the same mass as round wire.

Knorbu
I would not run speaker wire through the center of a room , or under any high traffic areas. Maybe rounding the edges will save some length , I have seen wood floors damaged from having speaker wire under the carpet, it can't be good for the wire if it gets walked on enough to embed itself into a wood floor. If you plan on running the wire under the carpet to hide it , make sure you chisel out a small piece of the tackstrip where the wire enters and exits, then duck tape the wire SECURELY to the floor wherever you choose to run it..do not put it between the tackstirip and baseboard ! Hope this helps
Cornman
Thanks guys, just the type of info I was looking for -about the flat vs round. Not the old contentious argument about the sound differences between one brand or the other.
Panacea Engineering
Joe, The flat wire is fine as it is designed to go under carpet. You will never even know it is under there....! As Mike says the gauge is the same whether it id flat or round. W. C.
Daddy Dee
I've used flat wire with good results.
tigerwoodKhorns
Round wire will give you a 3-d soundstage, but not that tall. It will also have a noticable rise in midrange, but if you elevate the wire it should flatten out. Flat wire will give you a very tall soundstage, but no depth. It will also have a very flat frequency response, which may result in too much treble. Puttign carpet over the flat wire will soften the feel of the sound. Of course reducing your cable runs will give you more dynamics... Congrats on the Jubilees.

For an interesting effect, reverse your channels by connecting the left speaker to the right channel output (only) of the power amp of receiver, and the right speaker to the left output. The first chair violins, and any other instruments in the center will be twisted. For best results, make sure your interconnects and seaker wire costs at least as much as a new car (See the current Stereophile, page 3, Art Dudley's article Skin Deep).
