Welcome Toms

But don't bet on it , we have a bunch of old buzzards around here, way more than we have youngsters.

Agree 'tel - them's some pretty big words coming from an apperent Old Fart who's most fond memories of coffee drinking come from Mrs. Olson. Go back to sleep 'Ol Man - there's some Real Old Dudes here with Klipsch speakers to listen to and coffee to drink. And yeah, I've a hot cup-o-Joe in front of me at 9:34P and Jubes rockin' in the background. Ain't no friggin' coffee keepin' this Old Man from falling to sleep tonite.

Same here @ 9:52, might not be my last, I can fall asleep drinking coffee.

Today is rough. Just got an email from my buddy’s wife. They had to put my pal in hospice. he’s been battling cancer for a decade (started in prostrate; then spread to spine and lungs). He developed gangrene in his toe. Doctor just told his wife that there is nothing more they can do and nothing more they can do as far as cancer treatments--his body is simply too compromised at this point. Dale is in his mid-60s i believe. We were golfing buddy’s and went to the same church. I was in a small group that met in his home. Before Dale got sick, he was a longshoreman--a mountain of a man. Shaking his hand was like putting your hand in a vice.

Had dinner and spent the evening with him a few days before i left California.

No timeline...doc said it could be days or a month or two--all depends on how fast the infection progresses. So, this weekend, he was put in hospice care.

I don’t have enough friends to lose any, so this is rough.

Take it easy on @Tom's Patrician.  His post was probably accurate.  He didn't say all, or even most.  He probably has been drinking coffee longer than many here have been alive.

He's good, he drinks coffee so how bad can he be really.

But on the other side of it we might as well break him in right off the back, now he know what to expect, ...I did say welcome:o :D

First post in this section and about coffee, he's darn near a regular already.

Dirtmudd, I can sit watching Tv with coffee next to me and fall asleep, no problem sleeping anytime.

What I don't understand is I can go out of town for a week and drink no coffee and have no problems, I thought I would get headaches from caffeine withdrawal but nothing ? I don't use sugar in coffee or drink soft drinks/ pop/ coke, so no problem there.

Sad news indeed Steve @BigStewMan.  Elden's right, a "like" seems inappropriate as an indication of empathy.

I used to tell myself I didn't want to know about early cancers.  It was a rationalization when the side effects of the early chemo therapies seemed to me worse than the disease.  Today, the treatments and outcomes are much better, as many here can attest.

Prostate cancer is a bad one, but early detection is important.  My younger brother is a prostate cancer survivor thanks to early detection and treatment.  It's too easy to joke about the indignities of digital exams, colonoscopies, and the like, but they can save lives, but only if done.

Too many men suffer from testosterone overload and believe they can arm wrestle heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc., they can't.  Healthy lifestyles and early detection and treatment can save lives and improve the quality of lives.  I'm not suggesting your friend fit that category.  Sometimes bad outcomes follow no matter what. I am trying to remind myself and others that what you don't know can kill you.  Knowledge is power and leads to choices.

You and your friend and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

A cup o' joe to put you in the mood? Coffee isn't normally thought of as an aphrodisiac, but Magic Power Coffee, the self-proclaimed "romance enhancer" herbal supplement, promises a different kind of java perk-up.
