Moderators Youthman Posted June 2, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) Last weekend, my wife and I took a cruise on Royal Caribbean to the Bahamas. We stopped at Nassau and CocoCay (Royal Caribbean's private island). We had a fantastic trip except on the morning of Day 1, during the first few minutes of snorkeling, my GoPro began acting strange. When it shut off, I realized something was wrong. When I came to the surface, I noticed there was water inside the waterproof housing. Crap. I swam back to the boat and discovered there was a very small crack in the housing which caused it to leak water inside. The camera and LCD Backpack is now dead. I had several conversations with Customer Support and a Supervisor to see if it would be covered under warranty since the housing failed, not the actual camera. Since it was 1yr 4months, it was beyond the 1yr warranty and they do not cover water damage. They say it is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the case is waterproof before using it underwater. Not sure I agree with that but whatever. Initially GoPro offered a 20% discount towards a new camera and they said that was an exception. After sharing with them that there are 40% discount cards for sale on Ebay, they offered me a 40% off coupon once I return the damaged Hero 3+ Black camera to them. It stinks that the camera and LCD died but the upside is I'll be upgrading to the Hero4 Silver with a 1yr warranty and only have $260 out of pocket as opposed to $400 out of pocket. Be sure to change the resolution on the video to 1080p. Here are some highlights of our trip Edited June 2, 2015 by Youthman

Moderators Youthman Posted June 2, 2015 Author Moderators Share Posted June 2, 2015 We had an amazing time Joe. Wish the GoPro would have survived long enough to film more of the Snorkeling, Atlantis in Nassau and the beautiful island of Cococay. Moderators Youthman Posted June 2, 2015 Author Moderators Share Posted June 2, 2015 I think it cracked because of closing it too fast with the latch. I have since been told it's best to fully close the case before closing the latch instead of using the latch to close the case.

Guest Steven1963
Awesome! I literally just booked a cruise in the Western Caribbean 1/2 hour before seeing this post. It was nice to see your video - great work by the way!
Moderators Youthman Posted June 2, 2015 Author Moderators Share Posted June 2, 2015 Thanks Steven. This was my 3rd cruise to the Bahamas. Our passports should be arriving soon so we can begin to explore other places besides the Caribbean.
Paducah Home Theater
We went on a cruise to the bahamas back in college, it was awful, we took a discount package due to not knowing any better and got on this boat made in the 50's. It apparently didn't have any ballasts so we rocked and rolled all the way there and back. Everything about the boat was super ghetto. Did they make stops in the middle of the night with all the docking lights off to take on a pallet or two of 'cargo'?

Sorry to hear about the camera, it sounds like the housing design might have a design defect with regard to the latch which they have to fix regardless of warranty, but you are way ahead with the resolution you worked out. Not that it is too much consolation, but yiu are far from the only one in that boat. I did a quick check and googled gopro warranty water damage. How long did it take to make that video? Utterly amazing. TWO THUMBS UP AND A FIVE STAR VOTE.

Thanks, I'll have to check those out sometime. I'm open to new places to visit. First of all, congratulations on 18 years of marriage. Thank you kindly. I'm blessed more than I deserve. I certainly got the better end of the deal. Sorry to hear about the camera, it sounds like the housing design might have a design defect with regard to the latch which they have to fix regardless of warranty, but you are way ahead with the resolution you worked out. They definitely didn't own up to any "design flaw" although I believe I have a pretty good case (no pun intended) for it. Not that it is too much consolation, but yiu are far from the only one in that boat. I did a quick check and googled gopro warranty water damage. Yeah, I think they try and put the responsibility on the consumer to make sure it's waterproof. IMO, if I shouldn't have to test the empty housing each time before taking it underwater. Maybe I'm wrong but I believe if I put the GoPro inside the waterproof housing and close the door, it should be waterproof as GoPro claims. How long did it take to make that video? Utterly amazing. I spent maybe 2hrs editing the video last night using GoPro Studio (GoPro's free editing software). It's much quicker (although less precise and less features) than using my Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. TWO THUMBS UP AND A FIVE STAR VOTE. Thank you kindly. Like it, subscribe and after a million other people do the same, Youtube will begin sending me a check LOL. Moderators dtel Posted June 2, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) Island of Roatan, Belize City, and Cozumel are our ports of call. Looking forward to it! If you want some ideas on where to go on Roatan and Cozumel let me know, I could show you some nice places to go in pics, and how to get there easily. We usually just go to places where there are tables and waiters who bring you whatever you want to eat or drink, right on the edge of the water where you can snorkel on the reef without huge crowds. Have fun Edited June 2, 2015 by dtel
