That's actually a better idea than what I was thinking. I have plenty of wire.

BEC
Yeah, I like that better. If they make those caps using the same stuff they used to use, they should not effect the inductor. Bob
CECAA850
And I didn't even here to make new holes.
Deang
Thanks Bob, I really appreciate you stepping in and helping Carl. So Carl - almost done? You got this?
wvu80
Carl, when you get through with the XO, what exactly is it? Is it the functional equivalent of a Type A, Type AA, type AL?
CECAA850
AA

I ran out of wire and time. I hope to play with them some more in the upcoming week. I've only messed with one board so far. Yes thanks to you AND Bob. He was Johnnie on the spot. CECAA850
Well no one will ever mistake these for one of Deans or Bob's offerings but I finally have one wired up. @Deang @BEC
CECAA850
Holy crap. As I started to build the second board I noticed on the old AL wiring the squawker AND the tweeter were wired out of phase, not just the squawker!
Khornukopia
In the picture you posted on page 12 with the crossovers placed side by side, it looks like both are wired that way and probably have been since new. It would be interesting to see comparable pictures of some other AL crossovers.

Khornukopia
wvu80, In the bottom picture of the three you posted, it appears that the uninsulated common wire is also looped under the screws in the positive position of the tweeter and squawker connections on the barrier strip. So maybe that is normal for the AL series. Thanks.
CECAA850
Then the first one was wired wrong then. I only had to move one loop not two. All I know is that they were different from each other.
CECAA850
I suppose it's possible i misremembered as well but it sure seems that I only moved one.

Even with K55V's I would like the sound better. Anything's better than the AL right?
jwgorman
Not for nothing, but that's why I mentioned step 11 specifically as easy to overlook. Glad you were able to diagnose it quickly.
