Khornukopia
The Faital HF-206 drivers are from @Jim Gregory who gave me a super deal. They sound really good.
Khornukopia
I recently added wood veneer to the garage K-402 horns. These are the horns that previously had the wood burl look vinyl wrap. 4
Khornukopia
I have been looking for some La Scalas, but most owners just keep them forever, or the ones for sale are cross-country, so I will restore and apply some pretty wood veneer to these NOT La Scala cabinets that I bought locally.

Care to step-by-step that process Kk? Might inspire me to redo my old FH-1s. Maybe start another thread?

Maybe start another thread? This will probably be a slow moving project, but I will provide updates. I removed the corners trim, the handles and started the paint removal. If I was just restoring them, would have patched, sanded and painted them but, the veneer and glue to be used on this requires bare wood and moving the braces out of the way. So far, one cabinet got the chemical paint stripper. The other was subject to the belt sander. The thick black paint will require both methods of removal for a good prep. On the remaining surfaces, strip first then sanding.
Khornukopia
I got these old FH-1 boxes minus drivers, which is good because I want to install new ones anyway. Then I saw the woofers of choice available in the Garage Sale section. Bought a pair of new Eminence Kappa C woofers from @Blvdre. Still more cabinet prep I need to get back to.
Khornukopia
The woofers arrived today. New speaker parts make me happy. 3

Marvel
I'm going back and forth between building JWCs minipunch or FH-1 cabinets. Can't wait to see your veneer work on these.
Khornukopia
Made a new decorative frame for the K-402 using 66mm wide boards, a little wider than the old ones.
Khornukopia
Minor change in photogenic appearance but, in person the proportions are a good improvement. . 3

Khornukopia
Glued, screwed and stapled 12mm birch plywood sheets onto the sides. The alignment tabs in this picture are temporary.
Khornukopia
Want to square up all the edges so, used a router to cut out a step and then glued in a strip of hardwood.
Khornukopia
Carrying large speaker boxes home is fun but, they become heavy when working on them. I bought a hoisting device and modified it into a loudspeaker fork-lift.
Khornukopia
Placed the 18 x 10 horn with Faital HF-206 on top of a K-horn bass cabinet. Didn't adjust the digital x-over or EQ for the temporary swap. Sounded pleasant enough for a few days but, was obviously much less efficient than the K-402 in the exact same position.
