murad Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 I just paid $900 for a pair of 1975 Cornwalls. I listened to them from a rather weak amp but it was still singing. the owner said his relative gifted it to him 2 years ago and it was taking up too much space. There is a 1inch chip on one side that is deeper than the Veneer. I wasn't sure if I should buy it, but realized finding a heritage Klipsch 10 minutes away while I was looking to find Forte or Chorus was a sign, so I pulled the trigger. The color is C-WO (oiled walnut?) What are the things I should look into when I bring this baby home? Did I get a deal or was it a ripoff? 1 1 Quote

Lol, just careful with the volume, as you watch those meters swing. What preamp? Let us know how they sing. Quote

I have Emotiva for preamp. My ONKYO P304 burned as I accidentally plugged it in to step up transformer's 220v I have been using for my EURO Genelecs. 1 Quote
Shakeydeal Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Judging by current Heritage prices, you did good. And there's no denying the sound. I see your pair does have the ubiquitous "drink ring". Some pay extra for that feature.........😉 Shakey Quote

murad Posted April 27, 2021 Author Posted April 27, 2021 any advice on the connectors, crossovers? DIY stands? 1 Quote
billybob Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Those are floorstanders so, no stands needed. Connectors should work fine. At least listen to them for a couple of months before deciding if wanted crossover refresh or not. 1 Quote
Shakeydeal Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 I agree with billybob. Resist the urge to lift the speakers, or even tilt them back. After you get familiar with the sound, you can look at xover upgrades. Maybe just some new caps and/or damping the mid horn with some dynamat. Shakey 1 Quote

What would you suggest in terms of the giant chip on the side? Should I just leave it be and accept it as my imperfectly perfect friend? 1 Quote

billybob Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Look closely as I was wondering if the chip was saved and put back on. The repair looks like it could have been better. Quote

I hear ya. I don't really care how they look so long as they sound good. My Cornwalls are ugly as sin. So are my La Scalas. I say just a bit of TLC and you'll be amazed at how much better they'll look. 1 Quote
