Going to links for equipment notes takes time. Pictures in posts take three (3) times as long as reading two (2) posts - longer time for the image rather than text to fill line by line.

After reading many posts about long sigs a few months back, I set mine up thinking it was a good compromise. A short description of the "important" equipment, then a link to the rest. Since this is on my own server, I was also able to watch the results. I can see how many hits to each page as well as each individual picture. And I can honestly say that the numbers really started to jump when I set it up this way. It gives the option to quickly see the major list as well as the whole list when you have the time.

I also do computer security & agree on the dangers of going to misc links found out there. But I think there is enough trust here in the forum to use fellow members links to see their whole system. I love looking at the many pics posted by members.

I'm a dial-up user, horribly slow connection time, etc. BUT... I don't mind. I would never expect my good friend John, who owns a mercedes M class, to limit his driving because I only own a Ford Escort station wagon.

I like seeing the goodies that people have. I like it when John lets me drive his car.

huge sigs, no sigs, quotes from the left, quotes from the right, links to wherever, it's all good.

Hello:

I agree the pictures are nice, I commented on the time for them to download compared to signatures.

There is trust between those that know each other or have emailed, but there could always be that crackpot... that comes in with the intent on doing the damage. There's no reflection on the members I know, have read many postings or those that have offered to help me.

No,
you
told me to get off my butt and learn a little HTML. Clu gently enlightened me. Credit is due to you both.

Thanks for the help Clu but I think for now I'll put my sig back the way it was but double the font size and triple space.

Two hours! ... wow.. I don't think it took me 2 hours to build that site!

Glad you had a good time, & thanks for reminding me, my daughter asked me to take her car off the site about 6 months ago. Guess I should update it.

Hadn't been back here for a while, but I'm bored and waiting on Windows again.

My hesitance in following links had nothing to do with fear. Has to do with time. If someone said "something really cool over at 16th and Sewer..." I am unlikely to trot over there without knowing whether it's a block of ice or free records.

OK, so a link don't take long. Most of the time I don't HAVE LONG. I just don't think it too much to ask for a few words about what's over there.

However, I am not oberlistfuehrer, nor do I wish to be.

Hello:

Two hours at a site?

With webTV it too six seconds to scroll down, 48 seconds + with picture.

I am not saying pictures should not be posted.

Two hours at this site indeed...

Would you visit a museum in 10 minutes while running from exhibit to exhibit?

Some sites ARE museums in their own ways

Hello:

We go from listing equipment on the Forum, to the time it takes to scroll through a post with long listings, to listing it on another page with a link, that may not be known to all newcomers to two (2) hours in a museum. I do not cricize the link.

It must ruly be fascinating.

But the TOPIC is long signatures, the amount of time it takes to scroll through them. And with going to another site to find out what person owns and rotates in and out.

Kelly, I NEVER said you would send someone down a blind lead, quite the ooposite. I stated that I would feel comfortable going to a link you posted.

I stated it would only take one to post a link that gets diverted, which happens frequently on the Internet. I spoke from experience, taking the time to find recommendations, coming from Klipsch, to security Personnel at Yahoo, PayPal, The International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners, the National Institute of Justice, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, adding The New York State Crime Prevention Coalition, NCPC, The National Sherriff's Association and The International (and New York State) Association of chiefs of Police and the Crime Prevention Institute in Louisville Kentucky.

I also stated that for the Forum Members I have met or emailed with, I would not have trouble with going to links. A good number of people have complained to ISP's about clicking on a link then being diverted to another site. You were praised about the trust.
