The novel had them trudging along north for a day or two, then caught up with a group of orcs, and forced to march along (mistaken for orc soldiers)... Then the escape, and trudging closer to Mount Doom, then shedding orc clothes and Sam's beloved cooking utensils and pans. I thought the whole Mordor sequence was pretty abbreviated, and am looking forward to more material in the Extended Edition. I guess you have to love the story and characters (and I know I'm not alone)...
m00n
If they cut that out I can understand why, I have been hearing a lot of people saying it was an incredible movie but rather long. As far as I am concerned, they can add in 15 hours of extra footage if they have it for the DVDs.
kuisis
In the book you have to use your imagination more I think and it helps if you use a lot of detail in the description. I guess people want quicker results these days. For example the Godfather is one of my favorite movies, but sometimes when I watch it it seems to move slow also. richr8
Every time I expected a movie to follow a book, I was disappointed. Thay is why I quit expecting movies to mirror books. They are different media, created with different tools, that elicite different emotions ans responses. In this case, the movie and the books are both worth the time. The books were excellent, the movies IMO were the most awesomwe series I have ever seen. Seeing all three movies on the big screen was a truly amazing experience. I am really looking forward to the release of the "extended version" of ROTK. Happy Holidays!

djk
I hear this is the longest movie made without an intermission. Should I take a bedpan with me or just tape a catheter down my leg?

Should I take a bedpan with me or just tape a catheter down my leg? ---------------- What I do is: -Not drink a lot before I go (as in, don't polish off a far large cokes at Taco Bell beforehand) -Use the bathroom before leaving for the theater, and upon arrival -Get a large drink -Sip it for the first half, and at about the half-way point, drink what you want to finish it -Depending on yourself, you will have a mild to severe urge to 'go after the movie is over, and not need to leave during Worked great for me. I was never thristy and I only had 'mild' urges after the movie.
KiNNi C P
oh man, i needed to go so BAD during the movie, but i hold on. I hate walking through people in the theaters. In addition, i didnt want to miss a minute of the movie. the worst of all, my friends were in such a rush to leave that i never did went to the restroom. Might as well add that i losted my brand new leather gloves. Man, worst movie experience ever for one of the years best movie i've ever seen. Marvel
Great movie -- not quite like the books, but still incredible. The extended version should be killer when it comes out, just like the extra material filled in a lot of details in the first two movies of the series. It is right at 3 1/2 hours. There have been longer movies in the theater, but I think they have had intermissions. We went Wed. morning (Dec. 24), and the theater wasn't near full. I ran to the restroom once, but didn't have to climb over anyone and I wasn't gone long. I was the second time my wife had seen it, and she boo-hooed for a lot of of it. It probably won't win best movie because of the large amount of animation in it. They won't give an animated flick best movie, so they don't offend all the actors. tankhokie
ha, i feel better now that i wasn't the only one who suffered from a burst kidney and ruptured bladder. i loved the movie, haven't read the books, but still loved the movie. i helped push a broken down car down the road in the movie theater parking lot, it was in the 50-60's that day and i was already thirsty so i got the large drink with free refill for the movie...finished it around 1/4 of the way through and by the movies end could not walk upright to the bathroom...still, i couldn't miss any of the movie-too good.
