Klipsch RF7
Hi Guys, Im thinking of going with Craig's(NOSvalves) home brew mono push pull amps and wanted a nice Preamp to match them. What do you guys recommend? Thanks
Guy Landau
Ask this question after you buy the amps. Or just use the search option for preamp recommendations.
No Disc
Ditto the last remark, and also what is your budget? - tb p.s. This might be a decent preamp for you... http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?preatube&1077416007&2&3&4&
Daddy Dee
I'd sure be interested to hear Craig's recommendations. With his intimate knowledge of his amp, he'd know a good mate for it.
Guy Landau
I already know what he's gonna recommend. That's an easy one.
BackBurner
I believe ( according to his signature ) that craig has a " mapletree " or MAD pre-amp. Nice little canadian company that makes a killer line stage, if craig has one i'm sure your new amps would have been voiced along with it so maybe have a listen when your there . I'd have to check there web page ( have'nt been on it for a long time ) to see what top is offered , i can't remember off hand if there pre-amp is SRPP or CF . Gezz maybe it's even passive , like i said it's been awhile so maybe ask craig his opinion. I do know they are very inexpensive that part i've got right
sheltie dave
And probably a good one, because the Blueberry has been voiced with Craig's new offering on the Scalas, I would assume. I know I am definitely holding off to pick up one of Mark's fruits of the week. The hard part is figuring whether to pick up a turntable, which would predicate the Blueberry over the Peach. Hmmmm. There are some great preamps in the $400 to $800 range, Erfan, but hold off and get some input from Craig, Dean, and Mark about how they interface. There is a good karma between some combos, while a different preamp could sound like cobwebs. It is worth waiting - while you wait, hit some of the other tube sites and read up about how you would like to have the amp configured for tubes. I've seen you are getting your CD player tubified, so listen to it for a couple months before acting. This stuff is a whole lot easier getting dialed in when you have a good block of time to establish reference sound behaviours. There is nothing worse than shotgunning for a certain sound because you can't remember whether a change was for the good or the bad. I take it the Scott is breaking in well and really starting to voice well now?

Toxicant
Mac C22, what else? lol
Klipsch RF7
Sheltie Dave, The amp is sounding great:) Is the 299-C that you sold me the high powered version? I know there are many diffrent variations of the C model and have heard there are the lower powered versions and the higher powered due to better transformers. Klipsch RF7
Ill spend what it takes as long as it isnt rediculous. I want something that i can plug in my DVD player, SACD player and 300 disc changer into. Ive got NOS Sylvania 7591 on order for my Scott and also the Elite Gold 12ax7 pair for the preamp stage as well to see how they compare to the JJ Tesla that is in thier now. NOSValves
I hate being predictable So I recommend a Cary preamp
Parrot
I recommend waiting a week or two to learn more about mdeneen's Blueberry preamp.
NOSValves
I would second that for sure. I guess what would be helpfull for everyone to help you would be some Idea of a budget you have in mind for the preamp. Craig
Deang
Wait on the Blueberry if you want a phono stage. Wait on The Peach if you just want a linestage. If you're the impatient type, pick up a used AE-3 DJH off of Audiogon (about $800 or so).
jt1stcav
Hell, if you don't need a phono stage, go for the BEZ 6SN7 SRPP linestage!
sheltie dave
Mark, my wife wants to know if the Peach will actually have peach-tinted caps. Some of the WAF our ladies worry over is almost as amusing as our pathetic attempts to document why we need the Rocketjizmo XJ4093 with bidirectional turbotubes that can snort small flames over 30 feet
Deang
I like it. That's sharp. Man, you're pretty artsy.
Parrot
Those swirls behind the volume control knobs are a nice touch.
