Lynn,

It's a clearly marked thread. Anyone who is not in the mood for politics can easily skip it.

Interesting to me that *only* Max, in the first reply, dealt with the issues I brought up. Historically speaking, Iraq having a democratic constitution is just mind boggling, and the potential impact on the world is impossible to overestimate. Sure there are going to be problems. Our colonies took years working on our Constitution with the most brilliant bunch of mortals who have ever existed.

Judging from the close to 200 people killed in Iraq today by Al Qaeda suicide bombers in an attempt to create a civil war, you can bet that the terrorists realize the significance of a democratic Iraq. These are incredibly important events happening and I'm glad we have a President who was willing to make the tough call of sending Americans into harm's way and sometimes death for a great cause. It would have been real easy for him to do nothing, wait for the next administration, wait for the UN to pass a couple more resolutions, etc. Look how long the Middle East region has been a problem.

As I said, candidate Kerry has trouble finding courage to take a stand on a movie. He feels it is much safer to be on both sides of every issue, including whether to see a religious movie. Some people need to put aside their hatred of George Bush and think about who the better man is on matters of world security.

I won't disagree with your basic crticism of Kerry. Democrats don't care at this point. He is the Bush alternative and that, for many, if not most, is good enough. I would say, however, that a constitution in Iraq does little for world security. Or are we still saying that Iraq WAS a threat...or is it WOULD HAVE been a threat...or is it now COULD HAVE been a threat? Is Iraq's capability to possess nuclear weapons the same thing as my capability to posess Mullard EL34's - possible in theory; i.e. I am alive and, therefore, can possess things? Then again if I was such an expert I would be doing something with my opinion other than putting it out on a consumer electronics forum.

FWIW I felt more secure pre-Bush II when I could travel abroad and feel comfortable as an American...you know before we pissed everyone off.

Sorry you were ill informed.

Militant Islam has benn waging war on us since THEY took our people hostage in Tehran over 25 years ago.

Talk to a member of your local SWAT team, FBI, CIA or Special Forces.

Thewy wanted the towers to collapse immediatly and hoped to hit them lower.

Militant Islam was disapointed in the result. 20,000 plus fatalities would have been better.

And all of the current violence in Iraq is to whose benifit financially?

Saudi Arabia

If Iraq is a representative governement limited by a non religious consitution; inside of 5 years they lose the cash flow to promote militant Islam.

Suicide bombers families in the Israeli Palistinian conflict are well provided for by Saudia Arabia benevolent institutions. I am sure the reward is the same in Iraq.

I will be on a business trip for several days.

I am sure i will be missed.

Lemme say it again. The last time this happened in the General forum, they pulled the plug on the forum for a week.

Kill the politics. We all know where we stand, one side or the other, and there's no point beating each other over the head with our dogmatics.

Besides, the Dems and the GOP are closer in ideology now than they've been since they were one party, in the 18th century.

I like the puppet on the left!

Well, I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs!

Hey, wait a minute! There's one guy holding up both puppets!

We are not shouting in your kitchen. What difference does it make. Like a TV commercial, just tune it out.

I really could be a Democrat; but they are not.

Socialist Elitists

We will tell you how to live and redistribute the wealth. More for us Lawyers in charge of course.

I have no patience for a party that espouses taking my money for themselves and giving the rest to the lifelong welfare constituency.

BUT

We have no welfare anymore. They now call it Social Security Disability.

Same support of the non producers; different name. SSD used to be a noble endeavor; now corrupted by socialist elitists.

They need some one to vote for them though.

No flaming just my position.

Hopelssly corrupted by honest people that work 60 hours a week to build GNP.

Sorry.

----------------

What a laugh. Where is your money going now? Maybe some day you can spend a period of time with those dishonest non-workers that you hate so much.

What are your thoughts on legalizing the non-contributing illegal taco-busters that your hero needs here for a few votes? "They need some one to vote for them though", indeed.

60 hours a week? Big deal.

Keith

c'mon Rick...one really cannot say that being a Republican, or even a Democrat, is objectively "bad". I really don't think it is a mark of indecisiveness to concede that both sides have positions that, at least arguably, have merit. We are all free to choose based on those positions that best reflect our personal opinions. I think this is where Bush is really starting to miss the mark. He paints in black and white...an example would be the proposed "gays are deviant" ammendment or the middle east w/o the fist of American power rammed up its @ss is a breeding ground for terrorists. Of course preaching to the choir works well.

I continue to think that being a Republican and saying Bush is a good president is akin to me wanting so badly to remain a Bulls fan that I have convinced myself that they will make the playoffs.

Oh, and obvious is not funny. It's, well, obvious.

Griff, In many respects I don't agree with you (or Nader). Sure both parties might break out the knee pads for corporate interests but on issues of war on terror, personal liberty, and the economy the differences are significant enough to warrant a trip to the booth on election day.

Flynn, I don't care what you say. I am still not planning a vacation in Iraq.

However inappropiate or appropiate this thread is to the 2 channel forum the thread is here and so far still active! I have not yet read or followed Kerry's candidacy rhetoric yet. Matters much closer to home and my wallet have kept my attention elsewhere, But I'd have to have lived in a closet for the past 4 years to not have followed Bush's career of presidency. Although Im still not sure whether or not the invasion of Irac was truly about "WMAS" or a more personal agenda of Bush Jr. I do believe that the people of Irac are better off with our intervention.

The other side of this coin parallels the thoughts that seems to have risen from the post of this thread, someone pissin in someone elses playground! Voices have been raised here about this very thread and its existance in a "audio" forum. Voices are raised about the USA's interference in middle eastern affairs! At what point would it be prudent for the USA to back down or out of middle eastern policy? Each time we step in as the world wide referee we always end up on the short end of the stick and lately the stick has been sticking out of the body's of our servicemen. Do I hav an answer? no but its one of those things that make me go Hmmm.

I couldn't help but think of the contrast to Kerry. When Kerry was asked last week whether he would attend Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of the Christ," he said he didn't know, but urged caution for the American people. I don't know about you, but I prefer my Presidents to be a little more decisive than that, and less timid.

This is why his choice for Vice President is so crucial. Look at Bush: He's got Cheney to call his shots. I predict Kerry will soon announce Roger Ebert as his running mate.

May be one of the best quotes of the bunch Grif. The reality of trying to remain consistent with an ideology that can conflict with a significant portion of voters (remember us voters - the one's that have the eventual say in whether you keep your job) will make one look more and more like a centrist. Therefore, in times that are less than pristine, both parties move to the center to maintain a bit of control and influence to pursue ideological solutions that may be less than they originally felt should happen. There is a balance similar to the scales of justice - when one becomes too interested in more personal ideology the scales tip precariously and start to ignore a certain (often substantial) portion of the folks and their legitimate interests. This works the same for both primary parties in this country.

I am far from a fan of junior, but if he is moving toward the first campaign promise of 'compassionate conservative' (which I believe most folks took as a centrist approach) then he may well be accepting the daunting task of trying to help govern our wonderfully diverse country while keeping in check some very strong personal beliefs. I can only imagine how introspective I would get in his job.

As to candidates - if you have a keyboard you can get the information to make a decision on your vote. Just like here, be cautious of the 'ditto heads' (yeah - they are here as well - surprised?) and focus on facts and data on the candidates. That should be all the fodder you need. After looking closely, you may find two folks that are very much dedicated and pretty darn consistent.

I must now move on to figure out the equipment to go with my next project. I am a liberal and I think it is unfair that no government funds are being set aside to help folks with our particular audio addiction. Saving that money for our retirement instead of willy-nilly purchases of antiques at extraordinary prices would go far in saving the Social Security program. If we can save the 'snail darter' then our government should have some compassion for us.....

The Bushes had a set of Heresys at their summer hovel in Kennebunkport. At one of Jr's parties, two woofers got kicked in and a tweeter was blown. One of the maids dropped them off at the local Goodwill the following Monday, wher I bought them for ten dollars. They were the best speakers we had in the barracks in Kittery when we fixed them up, and I thank George for lending a helping hand to the poor.

I don't know what kind of speakers Kerry kicks the snot out of, so I'm not sure who I will vote for yet4.gif
