Well I first in line, first in the door, the console was there but it had been gutted. No joy. I could kick myself. Well live and learn, still in all though, not to bad a day for the Thebes, although I didn't win the lottery either.

OK. Now on to finding a real good, really low budget pre for the Thebes until he can scare up the scratch to get something better. Tube stuff on ebay is ridiculous right now, but there are some on Audiogon that still seem reasonable. Here's some links to what I'm looking at:

I'm particularly interested in the last one which is a Dynaco PAS3 that has basically been rebuilt by a guy who uses Klipsch, name of Bill Alexander-that name sounds familiar to me for some reason. $335.

Need some solid advice here. Don't want to starve or abuse my new toy but this is a really, really bad time of the year to try to strectch muct farther than $300 to $400.

thebes,

I'd tell you to be patient and do your research (but others here will tell you, as they've told me, I'm full of @#$% (can I say that?), and can't make up my mind). Aw, they don't understand the fini approach! Can't you use the pre-out from your Scott amp? Maybe you could work out a trade with a forum member, the Scott for a good preamp. One thing I have gotten through my thick skull (through the advice I've gotten from some good folks here), there are a lot of things to consider with regard to preamps. Budget, features, controls. Take some time, you still have plenty of good Karma in your bag.
