Daddy Dee
I wonder how much per pound lab meat will cost.
ironwoods
Any chance we could at least refer to it as Ultra Processed Protein(UPP) or something? We've got a 3 month old Yellow Labrador Retriever that's growing pretty quickly.
jacksonbart
Sounds sweet, wonder if they can culture the condiments and bun to grow all in one. I wonder if that is how that startrek instant food machine worked? Those guys in the Next Generation looked fit in those form fitting outfits so it must be very lean meat. Count me in. rplace
Jacksonbat you are slipping. The only reason I read this thread was because you had posted in it. I was expecting something like: "can't you just rub your meat to make it grow?"
jacksonbart
Well I am at work and so searching the internet for pictures of penis pumps might not go over too well, also figured Amy would lock up the thread. I will be sure to post one when I am home though for good measure.
Def Leper
It's got to beat eating Soylent Green. Human population is 6,000,000,000 and rising rapidly, the effects of global warming are accellerating, and now a voracious (some might say rapacious as well) Asian population with money and a burgeoning 20th century economy and unethical authoritarian government should spell out ELE for those with the smarts to project a bit into the future. As we've seen many times already this century, most parts of the world are about 10 days removed from mass starvation and anarchy, and many parts are much less than that. picky
Heck, Pfizer's been known for growing meat for years! []
Tom Adams
No doubt this is probably the only viable solution to providing the necessary nutrition for NASA's Mars mission program. Not sure if I've even mentioned this, but at a seminar a few years back I got to hear a NASA scientist talk abou the Mars mission program and one of the things that stuck in my mind was the time man would have to live on Mars before he could come back. It seems that once on Mars, the next opportunity to launch to come back, due to planetary orbits and such, would be 15 years later! IOW, once you get there, you're there for at least 15 years. So, being able to grow meat is an excellent solution. Tom
Joe Shmoe
Well... if it looked the same & tasted the same.... but was healthier...??

jacksonbart
No real astronaut would launch with out these. You will need to provide your own weights of course.

Jay481985
it technically is "meat" but then again its like eating cloned meat. But we've been doing that with genetically altered fruits and vegetables for some time.... well sorta.
darkside
WOW.....what an interesting thread so far, and funny I might add. But I'm not sure I would be looking forward to that. It sounds to almost like culturing viruses or bacteria, just this wont kill you.....maybe
Joe Shmoe
Didn't you all see "Supersize me"?? Isn't that supposedly what Mcdonalds is doing already? It's all engineered to taste good... lol. Now if they just make it healthier.. I'm all for it
