sputnik
I've got a bunch of frequent flyer miles to burn and my wife wants to go somewhere this spring (early April) for a short vacation (April is slush and mud season here). Since our time is limited, I'm thinking somewhere in the eastern or southern US or Canadian east coast. I don't know much about the South - I've been to Ashville NC and Bartlesville OK and I liked both areas but that's all I've seen of the South. I was thinking it might be a good time to go to DC as well (I haven't been there in a long time). I'd love to learn about some secret getaway spots. Any suggestions? sputnik
NYC is always a great place but we were there not too long ago. I love the northeast, I haven't been to Boston for over twenty years and I've never been to Philadelphia. How is the weather there in early April? Arky
Scoot on down to the French Quarter. Pretty easy in & out. I believe the trolley is back operational. The Garden District is/was beautiful. Pirates Alley The Ole Absinthe House, Preservation Hall, Pat O'briens...lots to do & see within a few blocks.

sunburnwilly
Take a look at Kiawah Island , SC . 35 miles from downtown Charleston . A gated community , world class golf courses and beautiful oceanfront . Once on the island you would not even have to leave . Check out the Sanctuary Hotel as well as the numerous and different price range houses for weekly rentals . Who knows you may even bump into some celebs while there . Also , if you have an impacted earwax problem come visit me in Charleston . I can fix that for you . []

Boston there might still be snow there in april when I went there like 3 years ago. Philly I just try and stay away from being killed. Moderators dtel's wife Posted January 4, 2007 Moderators Share Posted January 4, 2007 Scoot on down to the French Quarter. Pretty easy in & out. I believe the trolley is back operational. The Garden District is/was beautiful. Pirates Alley The Ole Absinthe House, Preservation Hall, Pat O'briens...lots to do & see within a few blocks. Sputnik, The French Quarter offers some excellent, out of the way hotel experiences and beautiful architecture. You would be visiting at the perfect time of the year. Our weather is usually in the 60's to 70's during March and not rainy. The trolley is back in operation and offers a wonderful chance to visit the Garden District. It was not affected by Katrina, nor was the French Quarter. If you have never been here now is your chance. Once you get to the French Quarter you wouldn't even need a car. The French Quarter is full of art studios, museums and historical sites. The D-Day Museum is world class. You also could tour some of the Plantation Homes, a few even double as bed and breakfast. The Plantation Homes are awesome. And of course, as alway dtels and I are happy to meet new Forum friends and show them around our beautiful city. The St. Louis Cathedral, which is the oldest cathedral in the United States, the Cabildo, The Aquarium of the Americas, I-Max featuring Hurricane on the Bayou, Audubon Zoo, City Park. A riverboat ride can serve as transporation to and from the Audubon Zoo. Our zoo is awesome. All world class attractions. The cemetaries, as gruesome as that sounds offer some beautiful architecture as well. And...who can resist beignets and coffee at the world famous "Cafe Du Monde". The Gulf Coast is only about a hour from New Orleans, with world class casinos. We would love to have you and the Mrs. as our guests. oldtimer
If you go to the quarter stay at the Provincial Hotel. You might think about NoCal or up the coast from there all the way to Vancouver Island.

colterphoto1
If you chose the French Quarter ya know dtels crew can give ya some travelers tips!!!!!!! They're quite good at that eh colter??? Yes the Dtels are excellent tour guides and enjoy museums more than I'd imagined. Their hospitality is unequaled. But I just wish they still had Jazz in N.O.- the Quarter was drunks and bad rock and roll as far as I could see.
oldtimer
Sorry to hear that. It was only 15 years or so that I sat in with a group on Bourbon street and of course it was jazz. You have to remember there has been quite a dislocation lately, including folks losing their lifelong axes.

3dzapper
Sput, April is the best time to visit DC. It's beautiful at cherry blossom time. Weather is generally in the seventies, pleasant. From there, maybe Nags Head down to Hatteras on the outer banks of North Carolina or up to Atalantic City, an hour and a half's drive to Philly for a day. Another hour and a half to the Amish Country in Lancaster County. Rick
