  1. I am expecting a foot of snow today. $8000 sounds like a nice vacation to somewhere warm and tropical. I would still have enough left over for a nice avr/amp, lol.

  2. Tripath is like SET with no feedback, the frequency response tracks the impedance curve at the higher frequencies. If your high frequency output is elevated, then you're also hearing more of the low level garbage in your recordings.

  5. Wow, I can't imagine spending $8000 on a receiver. You can get into an elite separate system with 200 - 300 watts/ch for that kind of coin.

  8. I think I just realized that I'm not concerned with trying to recreate a live performance. My goal is a pleasurable presentation of the recorded media, with all of it's inherent flaws and restrictions.

  9. I had my tv on my 64 for a couple of weeks and I'm sure it would have been fine until I got paranoid I would damage it. I had a riser (like Bill posted) on my previous VC25 that worked great but couldn't find a large one for the 64. I wound up finding a matching bench to my media console from the same manufacturer and just modified it and added in a shelf, works great. This company has some nice ones that should work and will make to order from what I read. http://www.syracusetvrisers.com/ Would be very easy just to make your own and less expensive as well.... FWIW, here's what I used, http://www.sunnydesigns.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=62_20&product_id=5306

  16. Pics or it didn't happen. $1000 for that setup is a fantastic deal of a lifetime for sure. That's awesome! Welcome to the forums. Seriously, we would love to see some pics of them. I don't think anyone needs to spend $8000 on a receiver. What is your budget for a receiver? You might be able to consider going with separates, especially if you buy used. I might be selling my B&K 200.7 (200 watt x 7) amp. If interested, shoot me a PM.

  17. Thanks for the responses. The KPT-200s are just too big. As for Mustang Guy's listing. He must be out because he has not responded to my emails.

  18. Occationally I'll throw on Walter (Wendy) Carlos' "Switched on Bach" but my wife can't stand electronic music. As an off tid bit, Wendy used Cornwalls in her studio:

  19. as an arm chair tube tech, I can tell you there could be many reasons why a fuse blows in a tube amp. power tubes, driver tubes, rectifier tubes, if you have diodes...those too.... best bet....find someone who is not an arm chair tech. If you can't do that...test all the tubes (you will need a transconductance tester) ......measure all capacitors (cap tester will run you 40 bucks for a cheap one)....test all transformers (volt meter for power suppy trannies...inductance meter for output trannies is better than DCR ing a tranny)....use a variac (but you need to bring them up super slow over hours.....theres a lot of articles on how to be an instant tube amp arm chair tech) ...cross your fingers.....then after the smoke clears...find a tube amp tech accept your lecture from them...hand over the cash...they will fix your amp. .
