What a great weekend. Meeting forum members, eating, drinking and of course listening to music. I'd like to start by giving Steve a HUGE thank you for organizing this and the incredible food he provided. it's certainly not an exaggeration to say that he provided the best pulled pork that I've ever eaten, OK, let's see if I remember everyone's name. No cheating, just from memory: Dave Ron Pat Pat (Otis) Erica Dee P.M. Mike Steve Tony (?) and myself Overall, I'd certainly make the trip again. I would also encourage those that didn't make it to try to if the occasion ever arises in the future. Lastly I'd like to thank Klipsch for, um, nothing? No factory tour, no opening of the museum, no loan of speakers, no place for us to meet. From what I understand, the requests were made but declined. It was a huge disappointment for me and dampened what was otherwise an outstanding weekend. It's a shame that people are so excited about a product that they'd drive cross country to meet with other enthusiasts only to be ignored by the manufacturer. If I've misunderstood the circumstances surrounding the weekend or am inaccurate in my assertions, I'll certainly apologies and edit. I also hope (no pun intended) that this is not a harbinger of things to come. Can't wait till next year!!!!! Carl

That is very a interesting thought. Timeline would lead this way. Bottom 12 is passive in the 500/5000. I will say klfs(at least 20&30)are better but with some upgrades the tangents hold their own. I eq'd mine for a while and tried a good powered 12 driven off speaker wire in 2ch format and the 5000's imo do not need a powered sub. You are onto it. The klf was directly after the tangent thousands were out of production. Seems to me you just brought to mind whats up. Interesting

There is the KMC(?) line of speakers that are like by some here, that have heard them. They may be military, but dicey on recall. Some info in archives or even now. So brought that up to say, it has to be qualified as, some may have been local(?) PX, and wherever. Have not delved into it here actually as not a everyday dicussion. The KMC, I wonder about. I am not the first by far to have spoken on the line T line. So, needs more info... I sent a pm detailing what else iv found. Im familiar with the px&over sea military klipsch that were also very, very popular at the time of the original release of the 1st tangent i believe to be the tangent 80...also on that 89 video it provides insight to the tangent engineer who went to jbl if im not mistaken shortly after he and paul were at arms with each other...the 5000 the way i see it was released about a year after klipsch let him go....the 500 series as well as far as i can find thus far. Speakers really do sound better outside. Overall, I think we did pretty good. We only were asked to turn it down once. Special thanks to Otis for running the sound. It was awesome.

That and maybe the effect of greater depth that had increased over time in the KG series like the 5.5. Could come up with something close to a KLF by combining the 5.5 with the T-5000. Just when I thought that tube amp discussions were becoming a regular part of forum life, it all fizzled! What's going on? In the interest of fueling things (hopefully!), attached are pix of the latest prototype which came off of the bench this morning. It's a variant of the parallel SEP which I posted a while ago, and uses a single output tube per channel. It's a 6CM6, another 6V6 clone, and is much better sounding than the latter imo. Like the other amp, it is a totally dual mono unit sharing one chassis, and output power is approx. 3.75 watts/channel at 1 kHz. I'm often asked how I always seem to "know" exactly what kind of amp is needed for a particular situation, and the answer is that I don't. It's based on a very careful history and discussion, much as a medical doctor can often diagnose a problem in the same fashion. It starts with talking about listening tastes and habits- loudness, type of music, type of sound desired (since SETs and SEPs can differ greatly- I'm not doing push-pull amps currently), and where the listener is seated in relation to the speakers. Then comes the speakers themselves, room conditions (such as whether it is a live room, or acoustically damped with carpet, furniture, and so on), and room size. All of these factors combine to determine how much power is needed. Once that's done, the output stage can be configured along with the type of output transformers to be used, followed by the needed front end to drive the output tubes. Depending on the sound desired, a decision is made about using or not using any negative feedback, and whether any high frequency filtering is desired for the "ear bleed" phenomenon which I've described in past threads. The power supply is designed last as it's capability depends on the rest of the circuit. So, it's obvious that my method is to design the amp backwards, starting with the listener's ears. Anyone who has followed the forum, and has tried to find a commercial amp which works well with their speakers, is aware that it can be a very difficult task indeed since the amp characteristics are fixed and can't be changed without warranty destroying modifications. These tube amplifiers were painstakingly built. The wiring is uniform and perfect. They are as beautiful on the inside as they likely sound on the outside. The builders could be considered anal retentive, but in reality they are as beautiful and artful on the inside as their creations. I am happy to share these pictures of many beautiful amps with colorful and consistent capacitors, twisted wiring, parallel runs, and in some cases even the unused wires are artfully scrolled around. I have never watched a Blu-ray Disc. My main home theater (the one in my sig) is still in the DVD ages and doesn't even have an HDTV nor a Blu-ray Disc player. The TV in the living lounge is a nice Sony 1080p LED TV with a Sony Blu-ray HTIB but I still don't own any Blu-ray Discs. My PC also has a Blu-ray burner but only use it for ripping CDs, burning CDs, and OS installs. I have and do watch 1080p rips on my PC and the living lounge TV though.

Those pics look great. Every now and then i put my 5000's up on clist for $500 just to see if any klipsch guys are nearby. Between my 5000's and 1st pair of heesy ii i just find them to tough to sell. If somebody offered solid 5 $100 bills i might do it but would really take a couple nights to decide. I feel in good shape they will become more rare. They are also nice because you dont need a stand for them. Hurts my stomach to think about selling them. Granite i do have other klipsch smaller and bigger i wont sell regardless, possibly even thousands lol idk i hate thinking about that happening.

I see yours are reconed as are mine. There was a warranty period where klipsch replaced t5000 woofers with ribbed 12"s. gtact from canado on ebay originally had 3 replacements. Last i looked he was down to 1

Hahaha.... 2 things: 1) this is NOT my first forum. 2) PM Summer started it by asking about the box score when he likely knew the Rangers had a bad top of the seventh. Goes back to a discussion we had over the weekend on how they'd do this year. Most weekdays I'd be at work and not using a vacation day to watch a baseball game, so they'll be less thread crapping in the future.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments..... I tried 3 across the front yesterday and the results were amazing. Every movie I popped in was seamless panning across the front stage. I pulled the l/r out to be on the same plane as the center due to my console. I had to disconnect my sectional and move the side back to make room, but the test was well worth the hassle. I might get a speaker selector for now to switch between the 7's and the Belles for HT/Music while upgrading the other pair. I never thought I'd say this as I LOVE my RF7II set up but there may be some items up for sale in the garage sale section in the near future..... I told a friend of mine before the purchase that this will be a slippery slope.............what an understatement!!

I will be honest on here again. Thats why i sold my 20+ year family business. I had an old guy that couldnt write. I filled his whole check out and he also asked me to sign his name. He had a huge farm. His wife did all the signing(as do all farmers i know, very true) and writing he was just the working man on the land. It was too much. Everybody with a shop ripping everybody off and i just couldnt do it. I actually had an Ohio car dealer license into my mid 20's. I knew everything was spot on with figures of the current features&values at the time. As time went on I morally broke down and had other interests. I'v been through a lot lol i like a very simple life nowadays. Money is not a drive for me whatsoever. Relaxation is my only priority. Just wish i could build a tube amp lol and complete a pair of speakers on my own start to finish. thats my goal in life lol

E-2 was used from around 82 thru 85 so the answer to your question is NO not an upgrade

Forward by design, IMLO Would really like to find a pair of 5000's. Enjoy! Nicer specs than the 500 by numbers. Turns me on actually but, Tangent by Klipsch is different yet Klipsch speaker. The T-3000 is party, surround if were a sailor.BTW, both pair of Tangent have purchased from military, while owner was stationed in Japan. To date have not occasioned listening to their smaller speakers. The T-400, or T-4000 being front dual ported have to sound similar. Anyway, worth the listen. Small world there *beeker, thanks

I know many have been to Hope and seen speakers assembled. Perhaps every set is like this...but I am cutting up my basement floor and and had to move two sets of cornwalls...I always had my Persian Nutwoods serial number 1 on the left, 2 on the right. Put them away backwards...and what to my wondering eyes do appear...the tops are cut from the same sheet of veneer!

My BDP upconverts DVD's so the PQ is not an issues and the biggest difference is I am limited to 5.1 with DVD's. I still buy some DVD's that are non-action films. The ones the wife likes. She is not into the massive LFE.

To make it easy on yourself buy, rent or borrow a circular saw that can cut your angle, they are out there or will get close enough to get you through, 1 or 2 degrees can be filled with PL and never be noticed, Clamp a factory plywood edge on your panel to use as a straightedge & guide. If i was cutting only a few panels this is what i would do instead of making a jig or whatever. Something like this will get you by safely.

Check out this organ LaScala with attenuators on the tweeter and midrange: I have never seen that before. Was this a common practice, and what are the disadvantages of it?

The big hammer just has to make it to nevada! man jason your right there in chi town. few hours away..wife and i spend time there and around cook co frequently. christmas we spent a week. sometime would be neat checking out a bill fitzmaurice design or 2 that you may have. iv heard danleys and the unstable cv earthquakes and other popular pa designs although no tht's or these ultra premium highly rated table tubas etc...I have 2 18's in my room and would struggle to fit one in my rooms right now yet in about a year we are moving into a townhome 3 times the size were in now...man, we just signed another year lease and though cost of living here is very modest i have to walk sideways through this duplex lol not really though farely close... thought about asking before. there are a couple other active forum members that are between you and i as well...your more than welcome a visit to ft wayne if your near...steak dinner included

I would take it slowly with your upgrades. Call bob crites directly and he will help you. Crites midrange diaphragm is a replacement not an upgrade. If you want the titanium upgrade you should check with klipsch directly. Not knowing the year of your chorus ii i cant say whether i would replace or upgrade your crossovers yet. I suggest waiting 20 years because the chorus ii networks last at least 20 years depending on how they have been used. The next upgrade is to build supports in the chorus ii cabinet to make them more stable. If you do not run more than 200 watts on each of them you may not get a whole lot of superior sound although at any power level they will perform structurally more sound. Next make sure around the outside edge of the inner cab use good material to also support supreme acoustical integrity. If you really want to do this big i suggest seperating all 3 drivers accordingly and that will bring a percentage of quality up as well and can be done while building the cabinet supports. I sometimes run my top secret lol chorus ii with a 440x2 solid state amp and have a lot of fun with them. For the past 2 months they have been with my favorite valve amp. There is one more upgrade i have yet to try. That person who holds the understanding to it would have to offer to you his help. Owe and there a lot more you can try although they are top secret and i have no idea what was done because i wasnt allowed to watch. The best of luck to you. Interesting your not keeping them like this. Either configuration i can understand yet with the jbl's they look and gotta sound great. Your up in your face stands are very nice with your splits tho. I wonder if you have your hair. Im loosing mine pulling it out with all the stuff you got going on lol For the size room I will be in for the next few years, these are just too much, now when I move to Nevada and build that aircraft hanger im going to need way more than one pair.

It was relayed to me in the world of "Splits" they had an old proverb, "Orange Crate" when sitting down, (ear level) the horns are 13 3/4" raised above the base box, just exactly the size of a 1970s Orange Crate. I tried the "Crate" it worked, so I built these. even the wife stated it made a big difference.

If I sell these critters for an offer I accept, then I will store these for the time needed to arrange for pick up or transfer.
