  1. Many of you know Maynard the "Tube Amp Designer" and fortunately, so do I. In one of our talks, I mentioned to him that I had some NOS Coke Can capacitors that I really wanted to incorporate into an amp build. I said I thought it was time to build not only an impressive sounding amp but an impressive looking amp as well. Anyway, be careful what you wish for when Maynard is listening because within the week, he had designed and sent me the print for this dual mono SEP amp with truly impressive specs. He knew my love for tweaking, so he included a special front-end tone control circuit as well as an adjustable feedback network in the output section. That was last Summer. I have never before committed this kind of time to a build but I figured it was about time to see how high I could set the bar for myself. I must admit that my respect for Maynard's design was the genesis for that. A half year later and the "Tech-Amp" was born! Not only is it littered with displays and diagnostics for assessing it's operational status and performance but it also has it's own built in audio signal generator. No more finding my sig-gen and hooking it up. With this amp, I just hit the "TEST" button and the input to the amp switches from the front panel jack to the generator's output for immediate use! I hope you agree that it is an impressive looking amp and as for the sound, like I say in the you-tube video; "This amp plus the Klipsch KF-28's, make sure that my neighbors are listening to good music too!" And yes Maynard, I CAN blow out a match with the bass ports! =D I've attached some still pics and here is a short but entertaining You-Tube of it in action: (Sorry for the "Shaky Cam" in some of the transitions.)

  5. I remember that my dad would have a glass lined thermos bottle in his lunch box for years and occasionally, he would come home pissed because his thermos suffered a broken “filler.” However, in those days the glass filler was replaceable and it was off to Sears that evening for a replacement filler. How about a "Bullwinkle in Space" thermos or maybe a "Flintstones" thermos? Given all of those great selections above, I actually have a couple of sizes of this thermos with the vacuum insulation between the double-wall of stainless steel and liked them so well, I bought the vacuum insulated travel mug too. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017IHRNM?ie=UTF8&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=6738&tag=ezvid02-20&creativeASIN=B0017IHRNM http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Stainless-Travel-Handle-Midnight/dp/B002PY7AYI/ref=pd_sim_79_15?ie=UTF8&dpID=41a3n7ec6xL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1H6T56DBZD72DXKV3ZXF .

  10. No way my speakers can do that, but it's not why I have speakers. If i want something to talk and answer questions for me I can call my wife. Now if it had an aux output where it could be plugged into a normal home setup it could also intimidate someone who breaks in, @100+db.

  12. Our closest friends are jimmy and Diana. They are from Indonesia, and have 2 kids. Jimmy's only day off is Tuesday. When we go to Chinatown it is always a Tuesday which means we are playing hookie. There are many times it doesn't work out (shop) but when it does, we go in any weather (barring safety). Yesterday was one of the great days! They share their culture with us and their food. It is always a feast. MKP loves the hot chili going in butt... Let's just say he is having an uncomfortable morning! A haircut in Chinatown is an event. There is a customary face, head, neck and shoulder massage with the shampooing. Not cursory like sport clips, but pressure points, etc. Very nice. And Victor is like Edward scissorhands. He cuts with razors only and wears a leather scissor belt. Victor has a flair for the dramatic and is always trying to show it in mkp's haircut. Victor will have me look at his finished product "is OK?" And MKP looks at me with eyes that say "PLEASE make him fix it!". Lol This is MkP with shimlu (Annabelle), and with the infamous (and not gay) victor

  26. LOL! I'm disagreeing that we are disagreeing! I was the one who was confusing because I hedged my bet by recommending both ways! I read your post carefully, and I think we are agreeing, buy the front speakers first.

  34. Any coffee thermos recommendations? I have business Law II again this evening and if its like last week, I am going to need a lot of coffee. I don't need whole lot, but enough to get me through a couple hours. I always like the old Stanley ones. Are they still any good, last I had seen someone with one, they complained about it leaking.

  35. I like that a lot Carl; separation between spittle and stuff If you're referring to the upper center cabinet, that was Evelyn's idea. That is a really long wall with a lot of dead space so she wanted a little more storage there. I had to build the sheetrock out at the lights to make it look right.
