  6. I have purchased that kit and had it installed But it did not fix the problem Technician has a gut feeling that it’s something called a gate and not easy to find the parts new, It’s in the that MC / CD or SCL chip section on the left Hence the reason for replacing the board - and fingers crossed 🤞 it will work

  7. With the thunderstorms today I just now got online. Nice and cool in the 60s though, just dark all day and I've had some lights on like at nighttime. I might have believed crappies were awful just by their name. But the freshwater in the sandhills part of NC has `em and they are so sweet it is unreal. Gave them my catfish treatment half flour, half corn meal plus S&P!

  16. interesting ..... The Philips CD-960 is largely identical in construction to the Marantz CD-94, CD-95, CD-99, CD-12, the Philips LHH-1000, the Micro Seiki CD-M2, CD-M100, CD-M2000X, and the Wadia WT-3200, and ran off the assembly lines of the Marantz manufacturing facilities in Japan along with them. The CD-960 is the most expensive CD player ever sold by Philips. The massive chassis is made of die-cast zinc, the power supply is more likely to be found in a mid-range integrated amplifier today, and two icons tower above it all - the indestructible Philips CDM1 turntable, also made of die-cast zinc and with glass lenses by Rodenstock, and probably the most musical digital/analogue converter ever, the Philips TDA1541. and a beauty as well I hope you only stored it so well that you can find it again, so that you don't have the same problem as I had with the Revox board.

  17. I'm being worthless and it's been forever. I can remember spending hours growing and listening to this guy almost every night in a friends bedroom. He had the first couple lp's Bob put out and I was totally into him. So we sat and listened. He sang and I was learning the words to all of his songs. He never made it home from Nam and I couldn't listen to Dylan w/o thinking of him. A doctor's son, intelligent and understood exactly what Dylan was saying while I was still getting a grip on him. So I'll throw these on in his honor. Here's to you my brother in arms. Thanks for the memories. I'm sure there are many others on the Forum who understand having been there. Everyone lost friends and buddies. What a useless, worthless war. I've got so many Dylan lp's it's crazy yet rarely play them. He popped into my head tonight for something different from back in the day so I decided to explain why while I was listening. Carry on. One totally amazing artist. With Paul Butterfield Blues band... So poignant and a sign of the times to come.

  22. the "gills"I get are 9 - 10 inches long ... and can be filleted. The little ones are a pita, with all the bones. the "lake"we have is more of a pond. I thinks it's about 90acres .. and fairly shallow. there are some look-alike sunfish that are not as good of table fare.... such as red-ear sunfish. They can be muddy tasting. I know crappie get a lot of press... I prefer gill to them. Walleye and perch can be had in AZ....but, I can fish saltwater in the time it takes to get to the White Mountains. It's only a 3hr drive to Puerto Penasco Sonora. what's going on here ... not much. Watching my grass grow and waiting for tomatoes to ripen.Seasonable weather coming this week. 100`F. Wife is done with school for a couple weeks. She's talking about going to IL.

  25. It's Sunday afternoon here , around 2.35 pm , the sun is burning steadfastly , not a cloud near 90 F . Good that the wind keeps blowing a fresh breeze in the air. Now I have spent almost the whole weekend with the glaze work on the outer roof gable wall surfaces , 15 liters of glaze in Finnish red color I have processed and finished an hour ago with the work. It looks good, I am satisfied . It is a pity that I had little free time at the weekend to recover from the strains of the last working week and tomorrow it goes on again in the job.

  29. Ok @JohnJ I'll confess. Decided to toss the fish in my new handy dandy air fryer. Yup, I cleaned the basket, rack and grease tray well when I was done. Guess I didn't hit the door so I tossed the perch in the basket and set the timer for 5 minutes. Came out perfectly but w/just a hint of bacon. Sucks to be me but it went down anyway. I'd starve to death before I walked a mile to a Burger King.

  33. A question about the sound differences between the EL34, 300B and the KT150. My set consists of the CW4 and a Dynaco ST70 EL34 tube amplifier. A nice amplifier but it does offer room for improvement. What I would like to improve in the sound is a bit more dynamics/vibrancy, more detail, a bit fresher sound (slightly less hummmm), a bit tighter and more punchy bass, the large midrange of the EL34, and a great live feel. I'll probably have a second listening demo at the hi-fi shop next week and hope to come up with a choice regarding a new amplifier. In the first listening demo I listened to a number of different nice amps equipped with the 300b tube and an amp with the KT150 tube. The problem is that I have 0 experience with amplifiers. I only know my current Dynaco ST70. Unfortunately, trying the amplifiers at home is not an option so I have to hear during the demo which amplifier suits me the best. And frankly, I have a lot of trouble with this due to lack of experience and also the pressure to make the right choice. Are there tube listeners who know these three tubes well, and can tell me what difference between these tubes I should hear in theory?

  34. Hi @grasshopper That's how salt and pepper catfish are made! Place on the Catawba River just west of town was credited with "inventing" S&P Catfish. Fleetwood Mac partied there all day before their Rumors Tour concert in Charlotte... cancelled that night, someone had eye-contact troubles. Then the rescheduled one a year later when they swung back through town was cancelled too Lots & Lots of ticked off fans. I'm ticked because fish camps practically disappeared shortly after the with the war on fried food (I think?).

  35. Well I've been travelling around to 3 states over the last month. During my travels I had a chance to hear Underground 2 way Jubilees, 3 way 535 Jubilees(full stock from Klipsch), and the new Heritage Jubilees. With that being said here are my thoughts: The older 2 way UG Jubilees were impressive on their own. But after hearing the new Heritage Jubilees, I could definitely hear improvements in the hf extension, low mids, upper mids, and especially in the lower bass frequencies. The low bass without any subs on the new Heritage Jubilees is amazing with two channel music. The higher frequencies seemed much less bright and more refined with the Heritage Jubilees. The overall sound of the Heritage Jubilees is more cohesive from the top down. I figured this would be case before I got started with this trek. But what I did not account for is the HF prominence with the 3 way Jubilees using the 510 horns. The treble seems more pronounced and easier to hear distinctions on certain tracks. My takeaway from this is I would really like to see a double blind listening test set up between the three models. As for me personally I must admit I much prefer the more distinct HF of the 3 way model. If I could get a custom 3 way Heritage Jubilee I would be all for it. Now before anyone throws insults my way or thinks I am speaking from a place of jealousy please keep in mind my wife and I are in the process of selling four homes. So lack of funds is not a issue for me at this time. I am simply being honest about my impressions of the aforementioned three models.

  44. & I'm not talking about just the playoffs. The highlights show Andersens slow sideways movements for a long time now. Raantas numbers show not to good either, watching highlights of one-timers with no obstacles.. WTF. NOT NHL READY is what I call it. & I'm listening to mellow ARS right now as I have been stuck on them all day with a low BP and not riled up. It's just an inconvenient truth. * STILL my team watched them for too long and until I go to more games of theirs than I have the panthers (maybe 25)? they will be!

  47. (This is a continuation of a deeper look into horn-loaded loudspeakers as a result of an in-depth review of Floyd Toole's book (Sound Reproduction, 3rd edition). Many threads have been about horn (a.k.a., waveguide) loaded loudspeakers on this forum. This isn't the first--nor will be the last. What's different about this thread is that it addresses those readers that are a little more than "just a little curious" about horns/waveguides and why a company like Klipsch produces loudspeakers that effectively 100% have some sort of horn loading of drivers. (Even earbuds are "waveguide loaded": the ear canal is a waveguide). This thread is aimed at those people that would interested or motivated to buy this book and read it, but need just a little help getting up on the technical language. In other words, this thread is a gloss or explanation/exegesis of this text: This book is available from Parts Express (in the US) and elsewhere. Here is the book's website for those living in other countries: https://hornspeakersystems.info/. It's not an inexpensive book, but when you see it, you will understand the price--it's over 1000 pages--large pages and has many thousands of figures, etc. _____________________________________________________________ "Why horns?" That is the subject of this entire thread. Based on another thread that reviews Floyd Toole's book, Sound Reproduction (third ed), it became clear that an in-depth discussion of horn-loaded loudspeakers, and horn/waveguide theory in particular, is needed for those that wish to learn more, and which are not deterred by the technical challenge of learning more about it. Why here? Klipsch has always been about horn-loaded loudspeakers (even when it wasn't cool--which was a lot of years). As such, I consider the Klipsch name synonymous with horns. If that changes, I would be extremely surprised. I feel that an in-depth thread to counterbalance the "frequency response is king" direct radiating monkey coffin enthusiasts...is sorely needed. I've been waiting for someone else to do it. It hasn't happened, however, except for the author of the book that we'll be using (released in late 2019)...Bjorn Kolbrek. (The first part of the book--the history of horn loudspeakers, was mostly written by his co-author, Thomas Dunker). This is as good a time as any to start in this forum. I think PWK would actually be flattered to know his technical legacy survives. I hope that I'm up to the task. I've had a lot of practice of late (tutorial threads) and good familiarity with the subject matter--albeit at an engineering ("educated consumer") level. If anyone in Klipsch engineering wants to take on this task--I'll get out of their way. Perhaps this thread might kick-start that involvement...or perhaps not. Comments from Klipsch design engineering staff are always welcome. As this thread develops, I expect the format to be refined as we go along. Questions are encouraged, but this is not a "social media thread": if you want to talk about the social aspects of owning and listening to horn-loaded loudspeakers...start another thread! You can link to those threads from this thread if you feel it's relevant to do so. If you are still bothered by the technical language even after reading the gloss explanation here, you still have a couple of choices: You can ask questions about those specific horn theory topics here or perhaps the mathematics of horn theory here, or If you are still bewildered by the whole subject, start another thread and talk about it, and you can link back to that thread here for reference. My initial approach is to follow the book's table of contents, starting at chapter 9 (page 413) of the book. If this proves to be too laborious or not useful from the perspective of "why horns?", I reserve the right to change it up to keep the thread moving forward. Here is a table of contents of the book: https://hornspeakersystems.info/images/pdf/TOC.pdf. The contents of chapter 9 are: Title: Horn Loudspeakers - an Introduction 1 Efficiency 2 Impedance Transformation 3 The Horn Loudspeaker 4 Directivity 5 Basic Topologies: 5.1 Front-Loaded Horns 5.2 Rear Loaded Horns 5.3 Full Range Systems 5.4 Multi-Way Systems Since there are 30 chapters (22 chapters to go, that are specifically related to this thread) and three appendices...comprising over 500 pages, this is going to take a while. We're not in a hurry, however: the Klipschorn was designed over 75 years ago and it's still around. 😉 Chris
