  9. I will need to drive 2 hours to pick up new Cornwalls to avoid shipping and taxes. I would like to know the dimensions of the factory boxes so I don't run into issues with them not fitting in my SUV. I can not find info on the boxes anywhere on the web. If anyone still has the boxes Please let me know the dimensions. Thank you.

  12. I just purchased the Klipsch R-51PM powered bluetooth speakers. The right one sounds great with my turntable when using bluetooth and the left one is crackling. Have tried connecting it multiple times to make sure the wires are correct. Not helping. Any ideas?

  13. Picture just for size perspective. Early in life, I wanted VOTT speakers. Luckily, I saw and heard La Scalas at a party.

  15. Dean, I have seen the one in the engineering lab in Hope and yes, they use it. How else could they know how a horn itself measures without also knowing the driver’s plane-wave raw response? (driver+horn) - driver = horn

  16. Yea, I get that a lot too especially when I roll into "Jam Night." That's free though and the guys can play so there's that. The wimmen? Depends on the moon I think. Some nights are better than others but I just sit there and hold court at my table all chill like. Took a buddy we all know and love out with me one night. Not too many there and all of a sudden I hear this "H3ll yea THAT's some Southern rock and roll." Got a couple looks and smirks outta the guys playin wondering WHO the heck was sittin with me. Can't remember if that was before or after that bourbon he had. Funny none the less. Sooooo, pack the sarong next time you head East. 😂😎💪😂

  17. @saynothingatall hopefully you'll stop back in at some point. If you choose to hang around and share your system and collection with us feel free to do so. I see you did post @Full Range's thread so here's the jist of it. We ALL blame EVERYthing that happens in here on him! It's ALL his fault we're the way we are. Welcome to the gaggle!

  18. Good Monday friends! Ok, JUST got in from my morning workout with a snow blower (ears noise protected even though it is electric) and settling in with this one from 1985. A jazz recording on London 'Digital'. Kiri singing with more lovely Nelson Riddle arrangements. Here is some cover art, front and rear side. SIDE ONE in progress on the Orbit Custom....

  19. To go along with that Grinderswitch introduction I made in Paul's other dy-no-mite thread. Info on where they came from... interrelated info anyhow. It's a big deal in Southern Rock! If you're ever in Macon? (Try to see Blackberry Smoke if you can!) https://capricorn.mercer.edu/history/ https://www.ranker.com/list/bands-and-musicians-on-capricorn-records/reference

  23. Good afternoon all. As promised, it is now time to relax with this set of Linda / Riddle LPs. I bought these at different times off eBay, all were SEALED new old stock. It really is nice to sit back after a week of anticipation to finish a speaker project and enjoy the music now that it is finally done and realized. Here we go! 'Whats New' now playing, and the inner sleeve artwork. ......The Superscope S-212's in position. These things are efficient, yet that 12" handling the bass/midrange is really a velvety sound and that old school paper cone/dome tweeter sits nicely on top.

  28. It's been a long time since I stripped them, sorry no pics. I have another sw 12 in black I recently bought I'am going start strip this weekend. Going to remove the woofer and radiator and only use stripper if possible, will only use a high grit sand paper if I have to. If memory services me I used stripped, putty knife, and a roll of paper towels to strip the other 2 speakers, no sand paper. Unfortunately the stripper today is weaker so may have to use sand paper. I avoid using electric sander especially orbital ones, they can leave small swirl marks in veneer you can not see till you paint or stain. I will give you an update in a couple days.

  29. I have stripped black paint from klipsch academy and sw12 sub with good results. Both were originally oak Verneer painted black; success with yours might depend on type of wood/finish.

  31. Ok thanks I will check it out. Using zxpc's RCL but there too deep for my rears.
    1 point
  32. I am trying to a build a 510 replica for rears because of it's shallow depth, 5.1 system for music. I am hoping with the horn measurements I can use my touch screen laptop and create top and bottom rib/template of the horns curves. I toyed with mdf and had some luck with making curved panels. I believe it's called a Kell cut, (maybe not) where you want the curve you cut approx. every 1/4 inch the length of panel going almost all the way thur panel. Once cut the mdf can be easily curved, tried with plywood but had better luck with mdf. If I can pull off making a decent/close 510 horn I will be using a single 12 kappa c to match fronts speakers kappa c 15's.

  34. True - Used, just an example other companies have DVD players with pre outs. What are you wanting to use speakers for? 2 channel stereo, turn table, CD player, DVD movies surround sound?
    1 point
  35. Looks like you only have a zone 2 pre out with that reciever, could play zone 2 hook up but only in 2 channel stereo. Your reciever does not have 7 channel pre out for surround sound. I would return them and get a passive speaker that will work with your reciever unless you only want to use them for 2 channel hook up to the zone 2 pre out. If you try zone 2 don't forget to set reciever to zone 2. Some CD/DVD players will have surround sound pre out, OPPO comes to mind but there are others. That could be another option for you but I think returning the speakers and getting different ones is easiest solution. GL Looks like rca input on speakers are only for phone input so zone 2 pre out from reciever may not work. Only thing that may work is usb port from receiver to speakers but reviews do not state if usb from receiver is input or output, if output it should work if input it won't.

  36. What does a large-sized sonic radiating surface have to do with low distortion? If I'm making noise I just "radiate" more of it, don't I? Size does matter for a number of parameters but not applied indiscriminately(?).
    1 point
  37. When accurate LF reproduction is the primary, it's direct radiators for the bass. If folded horns were superior, it would be folded horns in all those control rooms staring the mixing engineer in the face, not cones.

  42. Hello Alan, sorry but the analogy is correct. Music is not sinusoidal signals only, the complex waveforms can be broken down into sinus signals and inversely if you add multiple sinuses you can get any shape you want, depending on amplitude and phase of the individual atributing signals - as proven by Fourier - but this definitely not mean that all signals are sinuses. Below is an example of a real signal, allthough not really complex. Asuming it is a low frequency, the woofer must accuratly follow the outline to reproduce the sound, as you can see the signal is not symmetrical and the woofer has to manipulated heavily. It takes alot of current if you want to track the outline precisely. You can also see the woofer does not just swing back and forth but has to go out twice at places. The following link leads to a series of excellent articles on sound, signals etc http://eamusic.dartmouth.edu/~book/MATCpages/chap.4/4.9.phys.mod.html Clipping is what happens when the signal flattens at the tops and bottoms because the source cannot provide enough amplitude, this happens most frequently with amplifiers but can also happen with speakers that are pushed beyond their design limits. If the signal contains a flattening, like with a square wave signal, than this is not called 'clipping'. Best regards ... jef

  45. Hello, I have never understood the capacitance argument. The capacitance is greater because the 2 wires a physicaly larger. Capacitance is also heavily influeced by the distance between the 2 wires. As far as I can see you only have to separate the wire in 2 seperate pieces, keep them some distance (inches) from each other and the capacitance argument is gone - along with it's effects on high frequencies when using long cables. BTW mr Klipsch had some Dope from Hope articles on the subject. VOL17 no 1 to be more precise. In the test he measured #18 zip cord with a lenght of 40 feet with no audible differences to larger diameter wires. the only aspect I really noticed with cables over the years is the termination. Plain copper wire of sufficient diameter performs perfectly but copper oxydates over time. If you have a solid termination (screw type) the copper on the contact place remains ok untill you have to loosen the terminal. You can avoud this problem by terminating the cable with spades - which are often coated with a thin layer or gold, which doesn't oxidate. You can also opt for cables with 'oxygen free copper' Both solutions are inexpensive. Best regards ... Jef

  46. Hi Moon, you put all the individual settings to 'zero'. Then choose the left or right mains and and adjust the Volumeknob untill desired value (lets say 85 dB SPL at your listening spot). Then adjust all the other speakers with the individual settings to the same SPL at your listening spot. execption : if you would have speakers in your setup up which are really much less sensitive (not your case anyway) you might have to start with those and then adjust the rest to them - this in case the individual setting could not be set high enough to reach equal SPL. Best regards ... jef
