  6. Haven't listened to this in a while. A phenomenal release, the makeup is a darn good drummer, legendary bass player and a not at all bashful singer/guitarist. https://www.loudersound.com/features/high-flyers-them-crooked-vultures-the-best-f-king-band-ive-ever-been-in

  17. Yea, the road to red. You got it but don't tell anyone they haven't figured it out yet. Give 'em time. Bare wires in your mouth? You cra cra? Welcome back but most of us never took a pause for the cause whatever that may be. It only took me 1 CD to realize the difference. I applied "Just Say NO! . @Travis In Austin pretty much nailed it. "I have to tell you man. In listening to sound, I guess what I'm after is the closest thing that I can get to reality. Now, I know it's not going to be reality, cause the thing gotta go through wires and gotta go through filters and this and that. I understand all that. But what I really like is to get as close to the natural sound of the instruments as possible. That's why I like analog as opposed to digital. Because I don't give a shit what anybody tells you man, I know what you guys are going to tell me...'Oh yeah, but it's clean Ray!' Well it's clean but it don't got no balls!!!" - 1999 interview with Ray Charles You're funny! 😂

  20. I'm using Forte IIIs powered by a single Pass designed ACA (8 wpc) in a room that is approximately 6,000 cubic feet. And, my room does not lend itself to optimal placement or either speakers or listening position. I do not listen at particularly loud levels, and feel the Forte provides more than enough. Even with the low powered ACA I can drive the speakers to what I consider extremely loud. My back of my speakers are about 12" from the from the wall and I find the bass very satisfying. I still want to play more with positioning, but it is pretty good as it is.

  28. HA HA HA! Yeah all that RED! went gray in my late 40's! Gray went white in the early 60's LOL What comes after White??? nahh don't answer that! It is going to be a few more days here before the Vinyl hits a platter, some extensive rewire work happening. I read earlier @JohnJ about getting things back, and I have to hurt with ya on that. I will only say when I gave up on that reality, it began to happen after almost 20 years! I have to admit how wonderful it feels to push that power switch!! ( feels more grand with speaker wires in mouth (the bare parts) especially if I forgot to turn the volume down. Hang in there @JohnJ I have faith for you. ... Might have to move the Dual at least and hook that up from a table or somethi........ I NEED MORE SPACE!!! sorry got out of control there.

  29. Today I received two PWK 100th Birthday Champagne Glasses that I surprisingly won in Coytee's Giveaway. In the picture they are displayed on each side of my Carver Coasters that I won in Jim Clark’s Giveaway on the Carver Audio Forum. Jim is Director of Operations for Bob Carver LLC and the coasters that I won are the prototype for the ones they are now selling through Bob’s Company. Thanks again for the great Giveaway @Coytee! The glasses are on permanent display, so I’ll see them every night when I watch/listen to Concert DVD’s. I think tonight it will be the Blu-ray PULSE Concert by Pink Floyd. I should have used a different background for the picture to display the glasses better, oh well!

  30. I just upgraded my JBL XOs to T3s as well. Not a huge change, although no real way to compare. They seem a little more refined, but more importantly are ready to go another 35 years. A good reason to do the same for the ones in my La Scala.

  32. I have had many different center channel speakers from Klipsch. As far has the sound, I don't worry about having the exact series speakers. I do try to keep speaker from the same line. With the avr, I can make an RC 62, RC 62 II and the third generation pretty much sound the same. The big money in the avr is for room/speaker EQ. All the talk about timber matching is overblow IMHO.

  33. What a wonderful experience dealing with Mike! The speakers looked better in person than in the posted photos. Absolutely mint, like-new condition. Gorgeous. Even the factory boxes and packaging materials looked great. Mike auditioned the speakers after I arrived and they sounded fantastic. I'm thrilled with the whole deal. Not only did Mike and I both work for the same company, it turns out that he trained my former supervisor, who in turn was the one who trained me. Yes, small world indeed. For anyone considering doing business with Mike, I can't recommend him highly enough. Great guy. Wish I could have visited longer with him but it was a long drive home and I didn't get the speakers unloaded til after 10 PM as it was. Thank you, Mike! (And thanks again also to your friend who helped load the speakers!) You were spot on Shakey. No offense taken Woofers! I appreciate your sense of humor. If anything your posts in this thread have added to the pleasure of the whole experience and made me feel welcome as a new forum member.

  34. Also consider that even if changing the wire impacts speaker performance, the improvements to sound from better room acoustics may be much greater than any losses from longer wire. I have often read that the listening environment is the most overlooked place where people can improve their system. If changing the orientation of your speakers creates an immediate, noticeable improvement, I would bet that the benefits will outweigh any deterioration due to cable length. Good Luck!

  38. They do the puffy thigs then just take some readings on cornea thickness. They're looking for a connection with type 2 diabetics compared w/type 1 and those that don't have it, as I recall. An early warning at a younger age could significantly help delay type 2 at a later age if people were aware. Not the puff, puff, pass I was expecting but I'm just in it for the money. 😂 😂

  48. Thanks for the comments, fellas. Yeah, I'm most definitely into cars. That's my 'passion'. Being 18, I haven't tapped into that at all, but I can eat/sleep/dream cars 24/7. From a '55 Belair, '69 Camaro, '71 Chevelle, and '66 Cobra, to an '87 Grand National, '84 911, F50, Carrera GT, Pagani Zonda, etc. I could go on an on... I think I would LOVE to 4-wheel, but I've only taken my Jeep off-road twice so far. And, obviously, my avatar pic was taken on one of those occasions. If the budget allowed, off the top of my head I can think of about $3,000 or so worth of off-road gear I'd love to get for it, but I don't know if she could handle the riggers of off-roading. I'm really beating her into the groudn everyday I drive her on the road...I need to let up and go easy on her...I love her too much to kill her... Anyhoo, cassettes. Yeah, I love cassettes. Not really that I like them over CD's, just that I have so many tapes from when I was young that's some of my favorite stuff, that I HAVE to have a tape player. Yeah, I could be interested in some more. You have anything available? audiobliss69

  49. NOTE: All the below comments are based on what I hear running my (portable) CDP directly to the monoblocks, completely avoiding use of the Yamaha, as I have no humm that way. I still haven't had a good listening session with these ASL's yet, so I'll refrain from posting a 'review'. However, I have listened to them for probably around an hour or so now, and I'm pretty sure I hear some differences. One of the biggest things that stands out to me is the bass. It's just totally different from the bass I had with the Yamaha. I always had a pretty good amount of bass (enough for me to marvel at), but I'm now addicted to the bass I get with these monoblocks. It just oozes from my speakers, and it just doesn't stop. It's a smooth, continuous, relentless source of bass. (I'd like to point out that it in no way seems to be 'inflated' or 'boomy'. Just more pronounced.) I originally listened to some Eric Clapton and Bruce Hornsby on them, and that sounded quite good. However, I then popped in some Anna Nalick. Now, let me say this first. When I'm listening to someone sing, I want to be able to hear their enthusiasm in the song. I want their voice to scream (not literally) that they're 'into' the song and aren't just going through the motions. Paul Simon, Mark Knopfler, Jack Johnson, and Norah Jones can do this 'quiet thing' and still convey some emotion quite well, but pretty much everybody else has to be really belting it out for it to seem from the heart. Did I make that clear at all? Probably not, but oh well... Anyhoo, when I listened to Anna Nalick, it didn't seem like she was really into the music. The highs and the vocals seemed to just be there without much enthusiasm or life being injected into them. Unfortunately, I don't remember if this is how she sounded on the Yamaha or not. I commented on this to Russ (the seller), and he said the Ei tubes were brighter, so I rolled them in to compare things. (One of the reasons some music is seeming to be lifeless may very well be due to the fact that I'm practically running a passive pre. I'm thinking that by adding a tube preamp, I could add some life and body to the music and gain whatever little bit I've lost back. Comments on this?) At this stage I still can't say anything definitively, but I am pretty certain things were brighter with the Ei tubes. I can't say that Anna Nalick had anymore enthusiasm this time around, but the 'brightness' was very appearant when I popped Bruce Hornsby back in. Every cymbal clash and everything else similar to it was very pronounced. Those sounds effortlessly punched through the air and pierced my ears. It was really amazing the impact they had with these tubes. Based on the fact that I didn't notice that with the Sovteks, I'm going to conclude that the Ei tubes are brighter. One interesting thing to note is that the Ei tubes are running considerably cooler than the Sovteks did. Either that or something happened to the monoblocks. There is no way the difference in heat is in my head - it's an appreciable difference The overall impact of the monoblocks is very amazing. They just fill the room with sound so well, and everything has new weight and emphasis. The overall presentation and greater impact has got to be the biggest difference, and it's pretty indescribable - so, I'll stop trying to describe it. Just so you know, the albums I listened to were: Bruce Hornsby - Here Come the Music Makers (disc one) Billy Joel - Greatest Hits Volume I and Volume II (The Stranger) Anna Nalick - Wreck of the Day (Breathe, Citadel, Paper Bag)
