  1. These were 3 states away from me and a mess, as you can see. Being that they were in StLouis and I was in central KY, I called @MookieStl to see if he could grab them for me (Thanks again Mook). He said that they were what the pictures show, but I wanted them anyway (I was hoping for the best). I'll spare you the details of what it took to get them back to being bearable. They are not perfect and still have a couple of small chipped places. I swapped out a few parts, such as the K55 on the K700 and installed the K53H on the K701 horns. I still need to get the grills mounted too.

  6. Welllllll, with the eclipse nearing and Duckburg having some of the longest times to watch it... ...all heck is starting to break loose in the Ohio viewing path. It's insane imo. The Holiday Inn here is full and basically everything around here is full. Local silk screener is doing t-shirts and sweatshirts w/a Duckburg logo and pics of the eclipse on the front and back? The county fiargrounds has opened the place up for campers and trailers all at a price. Word is they're just about full. Bars even have bands booked? The woman that runs the Chanber of Commerce came up to me last night, all proud like, and asked what I thought. Told her it was gonna rain. She looked at me and said she never thought of that. Yup, she was dead serious. Gotta have a theme song so ya might wanna make a note if you're in the viewing area. 😂💪😂

  10. hi @audiophile18, The Cinema Series soundbars are being phased out and are being replaced with the Flexus Soundbars as @billybob pointed out. The Cinema Series has had its issues: most notable are the many firmware issues and general hardware reliability. The current firmware versions are quite reliable and have addressed most of the issues found in earlier firmware versions. Hardware reliability is another matter. Some owners have had two or three replacements while others have no problems at all (yet). The the most notable remaining issue that affects the Cinema 700, 800, & 1200 is the loss of audio which can be be be restored by power cycling the soundbar. I have a Cinema 800. I still encounter this issue every three or four weeks, much less frequently though than the almost daily occurrence when the issue first surfaced. The other issue involves the centre channel dialog which Klipsch never completely resolved. Very few, if any, of the hardware issues plaguing the Cinema Series soundbars involve the Klipsch speakers. Almost all are due to issues with the electronics. All owners agree: They sound fantastic! I know there are some great deals on Cinema series soundbars now but my advice would be to wait for the Flexus Soundbars. The entry level models will be released first followed by the higher end models a few months down the road, just has Klipsch did with with the BAR series and the Cinema series.

  13. I'm glad it's not this week! Got lots that I'm supposed to make happen, other stuff happening also, desk should finally get here and I'll put the tv up again to stay as my monitor. Get the ekg for the procedure? Tried Saturday, a guy there at the small rural hospital got mad and wanted to know who sent me to get it done on a weekend. Ay yai yai! I told him again, I'm getting used to this new world up here, hospitals did not close up on the weekends in the cities. & that no one told me which day to show up, like I said when I was first asked. *I do miss parts of what city-life used to be before though!

  14. Could have one massive sync play... Consider it another seed planted. The rest of the story is over in the CCC&C thread. Bottom line is Duckburg is dead center w/the longest viewing times of anywhere. People are coming in from all over the world to watch this thing. Dunno why it's gonna rain. 😂

  16. Hello all, I did yet another pair in this awesome finish! The much sought after Klipsch RF-5! Adult owned and listened to in a pet and smoke free environment. Used with subs, so no low end abuse either. Refinished in a one of a kind custom stain. Much better than the boring black! All drivers are in perfect condition with absolutely no blemishes. The speaker grills are in excellent condition with both badges. The cabinets are in excellent condition with no dings, scratches, water marks, etc. and both badges. Audition upon purchase to verify everything works perfectly. I'll be happy to answer any actual questions you have about these speakers. The last set sold on eBay in February for $600, and they didn't show pictures of the drivers, so I can only assume they had damage. I will be happy to email/text you high resolution pictures. Location: 60511 Big Rock, IL Price $575 for Members Price includes a bourbon tasting while you listen to them!

  18. Is the legendary sound of the Klipsch Heresy worth it ? Yes , but it’s not so easy , because the RP 8000’s are also a very capable and beautiful sounding speaker . It comes down to personal preference and maybe how much you value deep bass. A lot of people don’t like the early bass cutoff on the Heresy , I don’t mind it so much , but many will prefer the deep low end of the RP’s . I find the Heresy to be slightly warmer and the RP slightly more detailed, both are truly excellent. Welcome to the forum 🤓

  22. Hi, Thanks, went in today, and wiped on some 303 Protectant on the rubber surrounds. Suppose to keep or help the rubber stay supple and was a tip from a Stereo Electronic Tech. In a few months will take a soft cloth and wipe everything down and should look even better. It is good when things all come together!

  26. Very few of the amps I have owned had multiple taps, the 3 I have now only have one pair of outputs. In this situation you just have to hook things up and see how well they get along. I don't push my amps and have never had a problem. As far as speaker loading is concerned I'm sure over the decades there have been a lot of less than idea parings and yet somehow the equipment kept playing and the owners were blissfully enjoying the music. Roger Modjeski (RAM Labs/Music Reference) often had his own way of doing things and they worked for him; never saw many customers complain either. Thank you for your replies DE.

  27. That room will need some serious attention. Reminds me of about 25 years ago. I broke up with my girlfriend and moved into a new house. It had a large 26 X 16 room with suspended hardwood floors. All I had was a loveseat and my equipment and rack. Looked very similar to your room. The first time I fired the system up I cringed at the sound. I knew I had work to do.

  28. I would recommend separates/Tubes (NOS Valves VRDs Favorite - Stronger Base with same silky smooth Midrange vs McIntosh MC240) for warmth reasons if K-Horns are stock with Stock Midrange drivers. Since you prefer singe solid state I would look at a used McIntosh (MC126) to stay on warm side to complement K-Horn midrange . . .

  29. When talking power Horn speakers compared to conventional speakers are like comparing motorcycles to cars. 120HP motorcycle is hard to hold onto but pathetic in an SUV.VRDs in Penta mode, 60w channel, is more than required at 9 feet - if 1 watt for 104dB at 3 feet, 9 watts are required at 9 feet. Throw in a few watts for headroom there you go. PWK only need 5 watts for music since at the time recording was limited to 80dB range and he was listening to classical not watching Transformers. Speaker placement, wall location, wall rigidty and materials are biggest factors in sound quality. If room is not correct shape, walls are flimsy getting good sound without room correction is impossible.

  31. Forum has helped me, time to give back to a good home - not reseller. RCX-4 (Silver) and SW-2 have never been used, only powered to verify they work. SW-2 includes grills that can be painted. Can arrange Pick-up only in Metro Detroit, between Detroit and Grand Rapids on I-96 or between Detroit and Lexington/Louisville along I-75. No boxes except RCX-4. Will only Ship RCX-4 if shipping is at least partially funded via paypal. Will split. Tried to give the K-Horn grills away before but got busy and had airplane troubles, If that member is still out their they get first dibs. Send E-mail.

  33. 4 -18's or a single 15 and the 15 cost more....that's a hard sell.I can build anything. That's not a problem. Aim positive you can build it, costs are getting close.

  34. Four 18" drivers and amp is getting close to costing as much as a used Velodyne DD15. . . http://www.ebay.com/itm/Velodyne-DD-15-Powered-Subwoofer-/171212669738?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item27dd12032a Goes down to 9 Hz, 15Hz is -3dB. My Velodyne SPL-15, not as good or low as the DD, on a cement floor in the basement shakes the whole house including the second story, just ask my children that sleep on the second floor. Feel bass in my chest and rear end (couch shakes). Auto calibration to room works great. I do not know any thing about IB subs - Have only owned sealed Velodynes. Would love to Audition Tapered Horns and IB. From what I have read and your skills I thought you might build a Tapered Horn for fun of it and cost / output advantages. Maybe you could build both Tapered and IB and sell one or tune one for music and the other for movies? I may try dual 30 Hz Tapered horns in couple of years, they fit my space and hopefully be more geared towards music while still being acceptable for HT. Given the size of your room location of the sub(s), firing direction and having multiple subs may be just as important as sub type.

  35. How many feet is the main viewing seat from your TV?
    1 point
  36. That is exactly what I did with mine. Movies, Football, and Gaming. All needed to be great. Constant Width screen with electric masking top/bottom fit the bill nicely for me.To me a scope screen is a great fit only if you don't watch much TV or game. I would think most people on forum would be best served with constant width, math works the best to get best compromise on both screen sizes 2.4 and 16:9. Since we do not watch much TV, kids have 50" plasma, with Adcom/B&W for gaming, wife has 52" LCD, 70% + is for movies, and room limitations, maxing screen size for movies , constant height, makes the most sense for me.

  37. Like the Velcro idea. Since my area is walled in on three sides and cables are hard to see I use a great insulator that can be cut or drilled as required a 2 x 4. I convince myself that seperating power cords and speaker cables from interconnects is a sonic improvement. In the past when ever a hum creeped in, I would move the power cables until stopped. Repeated this for a couple years until installing power cords under a 2 x 4 that was raised up off the floor by a couple of smaller 2 x 4s. Interconnects lay on top of 2 x 4. Some sell wood blocks designed for raising cables off the floor at $250 each, $2.50 2 x 4 seems get the job done last three years no hum.

  38. I've had a BD-103 for about 1 month. I will never go back to cheap. It loads all discs very fast. Sound quality is wonderful. Picture quality is wonderful. I can skip the stinking previews! Yea! It's full size 19" and looks good. Build quality id good. 2 years Mfg. waranty plus 1 extra purchased will still be less money than having to dump a highly rated, soon to die disc player. OK - I'm using HDMI so the 103 is just fine. I don't use all the features but the ones that I do are good. We use Pandora a lot. Funning thing with Pandora, in the previous 3 disc players, it was right biased. I had to boost the left main to compensate. No so with the 103. Here's a really nice thing, the external Wifi dongle they supply pulls in the wireless signal at almost 100%. The other players would sometimes get 50%. Buffering is GONE.l

  39. Lee and Chris, I started with an SC-3 way back when between my La Scalas. I knew right away that there was a timbre mismatch. Saved up for an Academy and even though it was much better, the left to right sweeps were still just....... wrong. Decided to try a Heresy II. BINGO! I remedied the sensitivity difference by boosting the center 2db. Tried 4 and 6 which was too much. The high end on the HII was more than the K-77s and that was fixed with some simple EQ cuts to the HII. Likewise, the mids <6000KHz needed some very slight changes in EQ to the LS squakers. The left to right sweeps are now seamless and the center(s) don't wave at you sonically saying, "Here I am!" Admittedly, the HII are not perfect and I really hated cutting the highs on them to match the mains but, until I spring for a Crites upgrade, I'm very satisfied. I'm no longer noticing timbre mismatches while listening. I'm just enjoying the music. Also, I liked the Heresy so much, I got another and mounted it above the screen. I was warned many times that this would be bad. Comb filtering, cancellations, etc. I suppose these things could be there but, I haven't noticed. I really like what the over/under brought. The dialogue is now in the center of the screen which was what I was hoping! I'm tempted to raise the La Scalas up 10" to match the center of the display, too. It would be a fun test.

  40. Man! Reading all of your posts made me smile. I've done the same thing but with the interconnects. Mixed them up due to distractions. AND it as to haul in the groceries! As far as 5.1 and 7.1: If you are running a 5.1 signal, the SBR/SBL can play the same material as the SR/SL. Use PLIIx and the surround signals will be duplicated to the rears. Most other 5.1 formats (DTS-HD) will not duplicate the signal and youur rears will be silent. There aren't a lot of 7.1 sources so I've set Advanced Playback to choose PLIIx unless the source is true 7.1. Then I go native format. Call me crazy but I love PLIIx for music, too. [:|]

  41. I agree with C/S on this. It's very difficult to get things 'just right'. Maybe not difficult but it takes a lot of time. You have to keep in mind what's going on at all times when you make even a slight change to the redirected frequency bands. A few thoughts: EmoQ did great except it boosted the subs a bit too much. That's a common complaint with EmoQ. I have the BluRay and the cable box hooked up with HDMI for almost everything. I do have an optical hooked up to the BluRay and set to an additional input on the UMC-1 for times when the HDMI just can't lock on and I lose a few seconds of each track on some CDs or Pandora. (Damn HDMI) Emo will be offering a 3D upgrade for the UMC-1 priced at $199. This from the top dog at Emo, Big Dan: "For our customers who want to add 3D capability to their older UMC-1's, it will be made available as a factory installed update for $199.00. Customers will be able to order this update as of the first of the year. We are preparing a major SW update for the UMC-1! This update will address all known and reported bugs that we have been able to document to date. We have been working very diligently for several months to verify and confirm all issues discovered internally and reported to us. Where we have verified a problem, we have worked to address it and correct it" I have not upgraded the firmware to the latest version. I am waiting for the next version. The 7.1 representation is wonderful. With my old AVR, surround was ho-hum. The UMC-1 brought out what I believe was the director's intent. The menus are great and I can zip through them in no time to do tweaks. There are options for Center Width and Dimension. These 2 settings used with PLIIx mode will wrap you in sound when listening to music. I went with the UMC-1 to get back into separates on the cheap and give me the EQ adjustability I wanted. I'm very pleased. I was using the old AVR amp section for about 3 months and then purchased the UPA-7 to power it all. Now I'm VERY pleased. I don't know if upgradeitis will strike with the UMC-1. It sort of depends on the industry path. The UPA-7 amp will probably be with me until I have no ability to even lift that great big remote. The UMC-1 brought to light a blown driver in 1 of my centers and pointed out that 38 year old crossover capacitors should have been retired a few years ago. And the journey continues.

  42. I have an SC-3 center that is currently out of service. The kids found the speaker in the closet and pushed in the dust caps. I've tried the vacuum trick and could not budge them. There is no sound degredation that I can detect but I would sure like to get the caps back out! Any help would really be appreciated....

  44. True, and true. It's the same as a person who runs Cat6 cable throughout their house and hooks it all up to a 2Mbps cheapo Uverse internet connection. It's only as good as the weakest link. In most audio setups, the weakest link in not the speaker cable.... It's what is on the ends of the cable that makes all the differnce and is usually the weakest link. Power cables included. Been there, done that. The power feed where I live is really quite good. There are time where I hear a slight buzz or click in an otherwse clean signal. Maybe my neighbor fired up his wire feed welder again? []
