  1. sorry if you did not realize I was talking tongue in cheek.
  2. You would be surprised how little power is needed to drive speakers at normal levels. A gas lawn mower is 90db or so... most speaker will put this out with around 1 watt Most family movie listening levels are not more than that So you should be fine as long as Daddy doesnt listen to his old rock at ears splitting levels.
  3. yep. one of those things you must think about when passing cable. Not just for fautls but for technology upgrades every 10 or so years. I have a monoprice passive cable, 35ft.. all working well except for the connectors are so darn fragile. I passed mine thru the sofits with hopefully enough space to pull a new one if needed. Good luck!
  4. Very cool! May I suggest you open those doors fully, this will widen the soundstage... you know, give you that sought after "openness" The varnish looks rather...yellowed, You may want to have it refinished, that will make the highs much more transparent, and add clarity to the mids. I also hear that polishing the elbow may help in reducing the tinniness of the bass. Other than that you got a great set up there! Congrats!
  5. Talk about negativity here. Great way to scare away a newbie! And some expert you are, calling it a "needle".
  6. Mosfets are cheap Can you read off the mosfet part number? you may not need a direct replacement. Main specs are the Voltage and current. Try to replace it. worst thing that happens is you blow the Q again. Check the Another RSW15 bites the dust thread for repair center. $160 in the US I think My RS15W also has a blown amp. I am using an external amp now. .Got the sub for Canadian $200 cheap So I am happy.. I will attempt a repair sometime.
  7. What is this? What setup are you using? why are using the TV as volume control? There is more to this than you have explained. how is your audio or video source connected to your receiver? Something going on here. Your amp has ample power. Dont get rid of your amp or speakers untill you figure whats wrong. I doubt its the amp or speakers but rather the way you connected things
  8. This unit is almost 10 years old. It only has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 output. plus remote... You may be buying someone elses problems. Why no remote? Most private owners have the remote. Where are you getting it from? No 3D, no 4K passthru or upconversion... No Atmos I would not recommend buying this. Take a look at the newer pioneer models such as the VSX 1031K. has it all plus 32 bit audio processing. $700 list at BB... wait till its on sale! or if you dont need atmos and 7.1, get the VSX 831K at $500. There are other great brands too! You dont elaborate on what else you have or what you want it for other than Stereo with the Cornwalls. If thats all then why not wait for some vintage iron? I picked up a Pioneer SA9800 for $40 last summer at a yard sale!
  9. um maybe not. most 1/4 inch patch cables are for low level signals and the gauge is not big enough for the power a speaker will need. However Prime cable does have some lengths that are 16 gauge... will work in a pinch. Are you able to solder? then just buy some 14 or 12 gauge speaker cable and some 1/4 mono jacks and make your own.
  10. do we try to communicate with apes thru music? Humans and apes DNA differs only by a few percent, yet we consider our immensely more intelligent and capable. It does not take much to imagine an alien species with intelligence differences several times the delta between us and apes. So..what with music?
  11. the difference would be mainly due to the increased air density. There is a 2% increase in density for every 10C decrease. So maybe 6% difference from warm summer to freezing. Modern fuel injection have an air mass sensor so it would increase the fuel proportionately. This is a very rough estimate and who knows what the real world results are. As for the thermodynamic efficiency based on the difference in input and output temperature, yes but it is air intake temperature to exhaust out of the cylinder. Basically assuming that the temperature difference is converted into mechanical energy. But considering exhaust exit temp is rather high compared to ambient, I doubt this will add much.
  12. These are mine $400 local pickup near Montreal.. yes negotiable you know where to get the info: https://web.archive.org/web/20120602025623/http://www.klipsch.com/tangent-400 my add: http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649327099-klipsch-tangent400-almost-pristine-like-new/
  13. As far as my technical understanding is, Carver invented the "Bash" amp with his MagneticField Amps. Both are PWM power supplies that follow the input signal envelope followed by a traditional class AB linear amp. The hard work is done very efficiently by the PWM supply and the linear amp only has to switch a small voltage difference.
  14. your mid range input voltage is 25mV. I am presuming this is RMS. . if you gain was designed to be 1000, then you are asking it to output 25 volts...RMS this is like +/-17V peak. Are you sure you are not hitting the DC rails? Unless your X axis is marked incorrectly... are you inputting mV or uV?
  15. From a circuit POV, assuming that the impedance of the bridge bars is negligibly low, I can see no benefit of doing this. Some of the logic sounds rather silly. Nothing will get damaged if one or both of the bridge bars get loose no matter how you connect them. The only thing that can really ever happen with either connection is if the bridge bar gets loose and pivots and touches the other terminal and shorts out your amp..
  16. bare wire if you are not going to change connections much...
  17. what exactly are you trying to do with the B&K 2610? Amplify what? What on your speakers are you trying to finely calibrate? The B&K 2610 is a fancy amp with gain settable in 10dB steps with some filtering when applicable. It should not need any adjustments as is. "calibration" may simply mean that if you are a lab that provides performance certificates for test results, you need to have the unit verified that it meets its specifications. Don't think you need this at home! If you cannot find it online, then you can probably contact your nearest B&K distributor for help. Most guys in this business are happy to help a hobbyist if it does not mean too much time or work. They should be able to get PDF manuals.
  18. there are plenty of screws to hold the control panel down, I am more concerned with vibrations. Instead of the double sided foam tape you could try some caulking. The temporary window caulking that is designed to be removed in spring comes to mind. i use this stuff on woofers too. http://www.homedepot.com/p/DAP-Seal-N-Peel-10-1-oz-Removable-Weatherstrip-Caulk-18351/100140056
  19. I think you may have a misunderstanding of those connections The High Level IN is to connect to a receiver/amp main left and right high level speaker outputs when it does NOT have a separate LFE RCA out. The High Level In is used to send a signal to the subwoofer amp. The High level Outs just pass the signal thru or maybe even have a high pass. But definitely are NOT connected to the internal sub amp....
  20. being an IC or discrete is rather irrelevant from a sound quality POV unless you want to get into isolation/leakage between stages. On the other hand, having all parts on one chip does help in temperature control: all is at pretty much same temp.
  21. I used this one.. 30 feet long regular hdmi 2 4k.. from HT receiver to projector. works fine.. cheap. http://www.primecables.com/p-352951-cab-hdmi2-30ft-hdmi-20-cables-30ft-aluminum-cover-licensed-primecables
  22. btw you don't have to post the same question in all the forums here. Most look at them all anyway. One is good enough
  23. I would say wait until a pair in better pair of Klipsch speakers shows up. But dumb question: is it the woofer or the passive radiator? https://web.archive.org/web/20111118074834/http://www.klipsch.com/kg-5-2 K-1001-K 10" (25.4cm) ICG cone active KD-121-K 12" (30.48cm) ICG cone passive replacement used or new copies are about $100 Up to you but like I said and others seem to agree, there are many great klipsch speakers that come up for sale used. Don't jump on the first ones as I have.... You never seem to make any profit on reselling. Because when the wife says "You are taking up too much room" they just gotta go fast.
  24. in this case a picture would be worth a thousand words!
  25. he clearly stated " and connect to the center channel on the receiver? " so yes he has a receiver with a center channel.. but yes, he should have been clear.
