Enjoy your new speakers. The best solid state amp I have ever heard is the benchmark AHB2 You will have to stretch your budget a bit because I rarely see them on the used market. Do some research and you will find that I am not alone. https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/laboratory-use-of-the-benchmark-ahb2-power-amplifier?utm_source=Benchmark's+Application+Notes&utm_campaign=1a16eb02ec-EMAIL_app+note+11-20-17&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_7c8c792ee5-1a16eb02ec-34690657

It’s the c22 that they are currently selling and is featured on the McIntosh website. . I believe that is the 111. J -

I have to say the new C22 is a great preamp. Great phono stage that is adjustable to any Mc or mm cart and all the features of the preamps that I grew up drooling over. I finally pulled the trigger on this and boy am I glad I did! -

This should be a start of new ongoing thread. Bands / music that seemingly everyone but you think are great. FWIW I agree with you on Zeppelin!

Thanks for posting this. Great Read!!! -
There is only one other thing I can think of that can match Pizza. Meaning that the worst pizza is pretty damn good..as is the case with the other thing.

Lucky for you that you cannot tell the difference between various amplifiers. If you cannot tell a class A from a class AB or a class D from a class A you can spend $19.00 on a chip amp ( I assume you believe there to be no difference between various chip amps) and be happy as a clam. For me part of the fun of this hobby is the differences between various components - including amps. -

The fact that they were listed as La Scallas may be why they lasted 7 days!

Bang the Drum Slowley is a great sports movie that rarely gets mentioned. Early Di Niro I think 1973 or around that that time.

I too would endorse calling Brent Jessie. Ecc82’s are notoriously noisy. A lot of the vintage ones were originally in test equipment. I have had tremendous success with Brent for all my fancy tube needs.

Someone needs to be enjoying this awesome amp. Great deal on a great amp. -
I stand corrected! Don't know how I missed that detail since I have owned a couple pairs of decorators! I found a photo of the ones that I refinished in Piano Black.
-
A few years ago I bought a beat up pair of decorator cornwalls that I painstaking finished in piano black. They looked awesome and I was able to more than double what I paid for them. Cannot say it was easy. Lots of wood filler , sanding, sanding sealer and lots of coats of at the auto body shop - yes I had them painted at a body shop with automotive paint. Not sure I could find photos of those! But they turned out fantastic.
-
You can see on your original picture the edge of the birch plywood on the top of the speaker - indicating that they are probably decorator models You cannot see that seam on the pair in second picture you posted.
-
Personally I do not believe that to be the original finish. From the picture those appear to be decorator models that came in raw birch. A photo of the tag on the back can confirm this.
