  1. Someone should pick up the Beach Boys. It's a nice set and price.[H] Paul
  2. Seti, I've had good luck dealing with Jim McShane: http://pages.prodigy.net/jimmcshane/tubes.htm I believe he's an honest, honorable guy to work with. Tubes have always been packed well for shipment. Good luck! Paul
  3. I wrote as well and did not hear back. I am interested in the Mc 2105 if available. Ttops-if something works out I would be game for a "ride" up if possible. Thanks all, Paul
  4. Allan, Happy Birthday![<)] Sounds like your wife picked a nice gift.[] My experiences listening to Coltrane are generally like how I feel about the music: Intense. This is not (for me) passive listening, or background material. It is an active listening experience. Enjoy your day! Paul
  5. I know Craig (Nos Valves) had a thread a while back about some cable he liked, that was reasonable. I think in your budget you should find something that sounds/works just FINE. Others mileage may vary, but I'm not one for kilobuck cables. I just ordered a pair of these to try: http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=MCMProducts&product%5Fid=50%2D2160 They look pretty well made and are cheap. Good luck! Paul
  6. I forgot to add a word of warning about the generic stylus and will agree wholeheartedly with what Scott says above. I picked up a generic stylus for my V15III and it was DUNG!! Was fortunate enough to happen into a NOS Shure VN35E. I have read several reports of the Jico being very high quality. It's the next stylus I'll pick up. The generics are a waste of money, imo. Good luck! Paul
  7. Funny, making friends and information sharing are the two things I value most about this forum. Take care, Paul[]
  8. risingjay, Just saw your post. I have a Thorens TD 125 w/ Grace 707 tonearm. I have tried a few cartridges with this arm, but for me the best one has been the Shure V15III. I think I prefer it overall to the Shure V15VxMR-it's certainly less expensive. If someone is interested in a V15III, I think a good way to go would to pick up a used body cheap on ebay, then spring for a Jico/Sas stylus: http://www.export-japan.com/marketing/stylus/product_info.php?cPath=18&products_id=1047t Hope this help. Paul
  9. Ttops, Don't know about the B&O carridge. I would think the 103 would work better with the stock Thorens arm since it is heavier. That being said the SME is the better arm so I would suggest getting a cartridge suited to it. I don't think Allan likes the Shures, but I do so here goes. I would suggest picking up a Shure V15III. Look for a cartridge body cheap on ebay then pick up a GOOD stylus. Avoid the generics as they are JUNK! I've had one and they are not worth a darn. I've heard very good things about the Juki SAS replacement stylus for the Shure carts: http://www.export-japan.com/marketing/satylus/product_info.php?cPath=18&products_id=1047 Here's a V15III body on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Shure-V15-Type-III-HE-Cartridge_W0QQitemZ9719055527QQcategoryZ64620QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem My 2 cents... Good luck! Paul
  10. Bump. Price dropped to $60 shipped to lower 48. Paul
  11. Gilbert, Here's some info on the 124: http://www.theanalogdept.com/td124_dept.htm Enjoy your table! Paul
  12. I have for sale a Kenwood KT 6500 am/fm tuner. The tuner is in very good condition and works perfectly! There is a small scuff on the tuning dial. I would rate it as 8/10. I used this tuner in my main system until I purchased a McIntosh MX 110 tuner/preamp. So it sits now unused. Some info: http://www.fmtunerinfo.com/kenwood.html Asking $75 shipped to lower 48. I can email pics. Paul
  13. Update: Well, the seller did write me back: "IF you would like another picture, please supply your email. I am a police officer and am very cautious of the information I share over the internet. Specific questions and answered. Please advise the sequence number you are seeking and I will supply." I will pursue this IF someone here is interested.[] Paul
  14. I'm not interested in purchasing these speakers, but sent a message to the seller in hopes of soliciting more info for folks here who have interest: "Hi, Why won't you reveal the serial numbers? This information is VERY useful to potential buyers, and could increase your resale value. Also, could you please include a picture of the other speaker? Best regards, Paul" We'll see if he responds.[] Paul
  15. Manley makes some cool and interesting gear. I've heard their Stingray integrated amplifier and it is impressive. It's definitely worth a trip to the Manley website, if only to pick up your Free "TUBES RULE!" sticker.[] Paul

  17. Gary, A very happy birthday to YOU![] Paul
  18. Brutal. "Destination Out!" will be hitting the table tonight. Allan, in memorandum can you recount another McLean gig you saw? Paul
  19. I know it sounds a little silly, but I really would try cleaning the pot as suggested. Use some Caig Deoxit and flush/flood the pot and work it for 20 turns. Do this 2 or 3 times. For the cost of the spray, it's worth ruling out. Barring that you could get a junker unit. Either a dead/nonworking 930 to use as a parts unit (ideal) or research how far down the line HK used the same volume pot and pick up a 330, 430, 630, 730. Get a volume pot that fits physically and specwise. Not ideal, but if you're not looking towards resale, it could do the job. Good luck and keep us posted! Paul[]
