  1. Keep them natural! They look SO nice!! You can always go black, but...well, you know.[] Enjoy! Paul
  2. I agree-keep the Scott. You already like it. They are really sweet sounding units with NICE phono stages. Well worth it to send it off to Craig (NOS Valves) for a going over. Money well spent, and you're good to go for quite some time. I'm sure Craig will help you with tubes as well. Enjoy! Paul[]
  3. Ki, I'm in the same boat. Have tried a generic replacement and was not impressed. Have heard good things about these guys, but havent' actually found anyone who's purchased one of their styli: http://www.export-japan.com/marketing/stylus/index.php?cPath=18&sort=2a&page=6 [^o)] Paul
  4. I'd second Josh's reccomendations on a McIntosh SS amp. They were designed to sound the "same" as their tube amps, and do sound good with Klipsch. The MC 2105 springs to mind as fitting under your budget. Get one with a nice wood case in good condition. A solid amp with excellent build quality. Get a nice one and if you decide to sell it should be pain free. Paul
  5. whtboy, 3 words: Get the Corns. You remembered liking the sound. You have a budget that comes pretty close. Worse case scenario-provided you stay on budget, you can sell them for what you have into them. This way you can hook them up in your system and decide for yourself. The Cornwalls have a unique sound. At a decent price in like condition, they are a pretty low risk proposition. Stick around the forum for a while and you'll end up with a pair. Good luck! Paul
  6. Bruce, My thoughts are with you and your family. Paul
  7. Allan, Any thoughts on how these compare to a Mullard CV 378? Paul
  8. I'll surely be pre-dated in this, but I have a pair of 1971 Cornwalls. Vertical horns, oiled walnut. Stock except for the grills-generic black material(need to get off my butt and make some cane ones!).
  9. Gary, Congratulations, and well done with your positive health changes. It is such a wonderful thing as you not only help yourself, but others who can learn from/see your example. Last week I had a friend visit. He had been heavy for quite some time (10+ years). About a year ago, he said "enough". Changed his diet and increased exercise. He's lost 120 lbs and is a completely different person. It is wonderful to see. Thank you for sharing, Paul
  10. N Nice work! I don't think you'll regret this decision. A NEW Belle-Fantastic! Enjoy[] Paul
  11. If you're looking at the Technics, you might want to take a peek at the KAB site: http://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/index.htm Take the factory tour, etc. This guy does a lot of these and matches them up w/ carts, etc. Might be a good resource for you. Good luck! Paul
  12. I agree these look nice, albeit somewhat distressed. My understanding is that J=1971. I have a set of 1971 Conrwall II's Vertical Horns. Label Reads: C-WO-15 2J163 The wood on these appears much lighter than mine. Perhaps as Colter suggested Fir? Definitely a set worth checking out if local! Paul[li]
  13. Sounds like a pretty good deal with the shipping included. Like you said you avoid customs charges with keeping this North of the Border. One thing might be to check if the shipping quote includes insurance. If they are professionally packed, this could strengthen a potential (hopefully not needed[]) claim. If insurance is not included, consider offering to pay for it. Hope it goes well, Paul
  14. $700 in St. Pete, Florida: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1138310472 They look pretty nice. Might be worth a peek if you are local. No relation, etc. Good luck! Paul[]
  15. Any way the wind blows- The kid is 15-LAY OFF! [H] Paul
  16. thebes, Nice work! Glad to hearing it's working well.[] Paul
  17. $125 obo. No relation, etc. http://portland.craigslist.org/ele/110760234.html
  18. Thebes, Have you tried solder "wick" or "braid"? Heat up the area you are desoldering and use the braid to pull the melted solder away from the connection. Pretty sure you can get this at radio shack or at least a hobby store. Paul
  19. For a Dynaco stereo 70 running "stock" I like: RCA 7199-no substitutes here, just bite the bullet and get them. They last. JJ E34L-I really like their overall tone: solid bass, great midrange and smooth highs. 5AR4/GZ34-Well a Mullard GZ34 is nice but pricey. I think Craig sez the new Sovtek rectifier is good. If so, I'd go with it as this spot could be spendy after buying the 7199's. Hope this helps, Paul
  20. Nice deal for someone. Forum member to boot! [H]
  21. Craig, Nice offer. I'm in. Paul
