  1. I live in the sticks on rural power and am terrified by those "flickers". Happens two or three times a month, weather be hanged. It has happened only once when the system was on. Power went off and back on before the system could be shut down. I feel lucky that everything was OK. Thanks for the post. I will look into those units. tc
  2. Schu, No SS exclusion in my camp. I use two 600wpc SS mono blocks for the bottom, and two sweet little 100wpc SS mono blocks for the top end. Yes, I like head room. My tubes are in front. Tube preamp and tube buffered CDP. tc
  3. So Mark1101, Would you post a photo of what you call a "soft ceiling"? Please lay on your back for the shot. [] Got to love this guy. He has a beautiful walk out basement/man-cave but he will not finish the ceiling 'cause the room sounds too good as is. A man after my own Irish heart. The boy does what ever it takes to excell with his system. Girls don't even NEED to go down there unless they are audio players. The sound is not for the weak of heart. If it is clean and accrurate, SPL's are "the more the better" for me. The only thing for me that says "turn it down" is distortion. Well, me the old reflex Slammer was stunned to see (on the meters) and hear what 35wpc did to the MCM Grand system. And yes boys and girls, that gear was.......... indoors. OK. I have driffed away from giving Mark a hard time about his "soft ceiling". Cut me some slack if you will. I am old, it's 10:20 central and time for bed. And then again, I could warm up the tubes. Mix a Martini and listen to some hard metal. LOUD Yep, thats the ticket, never mind what I said before. PS Edit: Tubes are warming.........Ya know, I don't ever remember anyone saying that CW's were lacking in LF with two channel music. Perhaps in HT yes.

  9. Just be happy if she doesn't have horns. Elden, Twenty bucks says that she will ask for money to get here.[:'(] At least, plus grooming and a flea dip, oh and shots. I was surprised when I read that, YOU are the first person to ever spell my name right. It's one of the few things that I can spell wite.[:$]

  11. Absolutely correct. One of the many advantages of true biamping is removing the coils and caps from the signal path. Adding another amp isn't the best way to solve a problem of insufficient power. Just buy a bigger amp if you need more power and hook the speaker up normally. I am the fool that you speak of. I run two bridged Luxman M-117's into ESN LF boards crossed at 450hz and two MC-100 mono blocks into the mid boards. (that are jumpered to the HF board) Tube buffered CDP & tube preamp. I have great respect for both of you guys, so call me what you will. But do call me happy with it.[] regards tc
  12. Tim brought his indust La'S last year...........hint[:$]
  13. WHAT? IB Conservative. Don't care what Dr.Who measured with the SPL meter.[:#] Now that first night with the H1's in the hotel room was a little loud.[6] tc PS: If I get to come, I will bring some room treatments for Farm House......

  16. Joe, There is a ton of posts on the 902/511b - Alcorn combo. Opinions, spec's, sweeps and the like. The opinions are all over the place in context. There is a sweep showing the 902/511b crossed at 400hz that looks pretty good. There are some that look pretty bad crossed below 800hz. Like I said, they are all over the place but I tend to agree with ALK. This is not a recommendation, just my experience with my Alcorns. I ran them in three way so I can't speak about the HF. First I had them crossed 1st order and hammered them without a prob. Then at 600hz a little steeper as I recall and then at 600hz ESN. They sounded good in every configuaration. A respected forum member visited when they were at 400hz and praised the midrange. When I got the dbb's I used the 902/511b for a while with the DBB 450hz ESN. I also listened to the 511b/902 atop seti's Jub clones and there was no lacking of top end. I evaluate midrange from female vocals. Now this is just me and my ear, but with a reflex bin I want to keep (as much as possible) of the LF in the bin and the mids in the horn. Again, only my experience, opinion and two cents. tc
  17. Wonder if I could adapt this to my car? [:^)] http://www.flixxy.com/escher-perpetual-motion-machine.htm tc
  18. And stop smoking Cigars indoors.[] tc
  19. Chris, Lowes, HD & Walmart sell hose reducers and attachments that go down to 1/2" or 3/8' maybe smaller. When using them you want to be quick because the motor will get hot. As a Tim The Tool Man (more power) joke, I reduced my shop vac down to 3/8". tc
  20. Thanks for explaining that to me. tc
  21. Wish I had caught this thread when it started. Very informative. But please correct me if wrong. Isn't one of the strict definitions of New Old Stock tubes something like: It shall test to within 20% of its original design value??????? If true, that doesn't say NIB or address how many hours the tube has on it. Pulls could qualify as NOS. Must think that audio quility vintage Brand Spanking New tubes are few and far between. tc
